  in one form or another i've been a member of this site for almost 10 years.

  in the past this was a great place for debate, news and support for ex jws.

  i logged on several times a day and posted several times a week.

  Similar for me Snakes, this site was not just helpful to me, but literally a life saver.

  I thank Simon, Angharad and all involved in running it, and I thank a huge number of past contributors here too, they ALL helped me

  But , it is not the place it was, people have changed, the Posters on here are different, less tolerant and kind. Instead of a lot of well informed people here, there is a lot of ignorance on show.

  I fear that this place may not be as effective for helping J.W's in the early stages of waking up as it once was.

  On the current migrant crisis

  thousands of migrants have come to england this year, already beating last year's total.. some may have fled syria and other war-torn countries; others are economic migrants.. let me try to get my head around this phenomenon: migrants are relatively safe in france and other countries.

  they then leave the relative safety of continental europe and risk their lives and that of their children by crossing the english channel in rubber dinghies.

  there's just no fixing stupid, is there .

  there always seems to be someone offended by something.

  in today’s world if you don’t see eye to eye with someone they claim to be offended.

  if you don’t support a cause that someone deems important, they get offended.

  I heard this earlier today " You do not put your children in a dinghy if they are safer on the land".

  Migrant "Crisis", in what way is this a "Crisis" ? This has been blown up by the MSM and Patel and others to deflect attention from other matters.

  A few thousand people seeking Asylum here is not a crisis.

  Bandicoot above is just repeating the crap of Enoch Powell's " Rivers of Blood" speech.

  Racist Right Wing rhetoric is better off being on nasty Right Wing Sites than on here. Or is this now a Right Wing Trump loving place that the likes of Nigel Farage would feel at home being a part of ?

  What interests me is how our experience of living in, and through a pandemic may change Society.

  I am hoping that the majority view that we need to be responsible in our own actions, to protect ourselves, but , importantly, to protect others, will remain.

  Before the Pandemic people coughed and sneezed regardless of spreading illness to others, I hope that selfish, slobbish attitude is a thing of history.

  I am hoping that stupid Anti-vaxxers and conspiracy Theorists will have lost any traction before the next Pandemic.

  2700 years ago Jews ate pigs

  what does a pig skeleton discovered in jerusalem say about first temple era jews?.

  the argument here is that sanctions on eating pork were only introduced in the 2nd temple era.. so what does that tell you bout biblical accuracy.. .

  The "Gerasene" swine story is a Literary trope. Look it up. But it did enter my mind for a moment, that story, but in the parable of the prodigal son the son had to travel out of Judea to keep pigs.

  I think by the time of Jesus eating Pigs was a no-no, but obviously in much earlier times, when the Mosaic law was supposed to be in full sway, the Jews knew nothing about any such ban !

  Which is further proof that the Jewish Bible was thrown together at a very late date.

  The find of one skeleton surely does not prove they ATE the meat of the Pig does it ?

  Personally I don't doubt they did, and as said in the O.P, the Jewish Bible was compiled after the return from Babylon, as a Nation Builder, so the Levitical ban on eating Pork may well not have existed until the Editor/Compilers of the Jewish Bible wrote it in.

  Jesus, without sin and a perfect human being ?

  how could he be, regardless of how god impregnated mary, as she was a sinful human just like the rest of us according to the bible.. mary was subjected to the adamic sin like all other humans, so jesus had to at least be part sinner himself.. to believe otherwise is just deluding oneself imho .. the only way jesus could have been really without sin is if god created him the same way he created adam.. what do you think ?

  And by then of course it had evolved in to a very different belief System to the one taught by Jesus. and adopted much that was condemned by what he taught, and how he lived.

  Those who claimed to be Christian, followers of Jesus of Nazareth, were certainly not by that point, and subsequently.

  I think your equating the thoughts of Jesus with those of Gautama Buddha I agree with, plus I do not think that Jesus of Nazareth was anything more than a very great man, but that is a wonderful thing to be.

  the last talk o the saturday convention of jw was already often the centre of discussion, with all the name calling, logical fallacies and fear mongering.

  however, it was interesting, not just what and how splane adressed the matter, also what he actually had to admit.

  1) he had to admit, that the org is actually loosing court battles, left and right.

  I am hoping this talk will do more damage than good to the Org, it was certainly Talks etc on this sort of theme that added to my Cognitive Dissonance, and so contributed to my eventual waking up.

  i'm half listening in on my wife's zoom meeting.

  in my decade+ in the org, i don't remember ever getting into such minutia about jw hunting rules.. apparently, it's ok to kill an animal to use its skin as a clothing accessory, but it's not ok to kill an animal to use its antlers as a wall decoration.. not mentioned in the talk: whether or not its ok to kill an animal to wear its antlers as a hat.. .
