Well, I hope they deservedly FAIL ! a mere cosmetic change does not comply with Human Rights.

Norway
by St George of England inso the wt society is going to contest the recent norway ruling.. jehovah’s witnesses to appeal unconstitutional ruling in norway (jw.org).
their true colours are shown in the statement: "the decision to deregister jehovah’s witnesses denies us the financial aid and other benefits that the government provides to over 700 registered religious communities in the country.
additional consequences include losing the right to appoint and authorize ministers of jehovah’s witnesses as officiants for weddings.".

" Sounds like a thoughtful decision to me."
It is, and is line with many Court's views that Human Rights always overrule religious rules and practice.
Something the G.B needs to get in to their thick heads.

This verses will get you disfellowshipped in 2024
by raymond frantz inhttps://youtu.be/cefnvubzxce?si=edha3qmax4fxlwqq.
everyone who pushes ahead and does not remain in the teaching of the christ does not have god.
the one who does remain in this teaching is the one who has both the father and the son.

The Presbyter John in the Epistles is not talking of people who go against what Jesus himself taught, but those who deny that Jesus was in any way human, there were a lot of Docetic Christians around, even in the Congregations John writes to.
"For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh." This establishes that, from the time the Epistle was first written, there were those who had Docetic Christologies, believing that the apparently human person of Jesus was actually pure spirit or not even come at all !
Now, teaching THAT Docetic view of the Christ is ALL that the Epistles of John could justify a person being D.F'd for, without reading in to the Scriptures what is NOT there, a favourite trick of JW Org.
I doubt anyone has ever been D.F'd from the Org. for teaching that !

Inaccuracies regarding pagan origins
by AEnEm ineaster and christmas have pagan origins.
many of us were told that since birth.
the evidence?
-
Phizzy
" Jeezus, go back far enough in history, and pretty much everything has “pagan” origins."
Absolutely ! and the Org. has always cherry picked which Pagan Origins it chooses to ignore.
Even Passover itself has its roots in Canaanite Religion, and was practiced by the Israelites before YHWH entered their religious thought, and hence the Pantheon of gods they worshipped at the time.
"Passover" is a total Fiction, as is the whole "Exile" Story.
So, Jesus was celebrating something with Pagan Roots, and the "Memorial" does the same !

I am not sure they will be stupid enough, if they lose this appeal ,to take the case to the ECJ, but I DO hope they are !
But the danger is that when considering going to the ECJ they may actually pay for some decent legal advice and be advised of the ramifications of losing in the ECJ.
But their incredible arrogance and stupidity may combine and prompt them to do so, oh I do hope so !

Funny Money
by peacefulpete ini ran across this piece of history again and thought i'd share it before i forget it again.
we discussed the story in mark featuring the image of caesar on a coin as setup for the famous line, "give caesar's things to caesar...".
the writer was apparently unaware that the roman coinage circulating in judea did not have the usual image of caesar but rather depicted barley or palms and such and was often minted in judea.

Thanks PP, I had come across some of this before, I cannot recall where, but whoever wrote the piece did not give as fulsome an expalanation as you have.
I still think the Marcan coin story is a good one ! quite clever, in it Jesus has to ask for a coin, suggesting his mendicant nature yes, but also that he would not choose to carry such a dirty idolatrous thing. And the "Pay Caesar's things to Caesar..... " line is good !
But the Writer of Mark was producing Fiction, not historical fact obviously. I do wonder what actual Coin he visualised in his mind, but any of the time would do it seems. If he wrote in Rome or vicinity he may have been thinking of a coin he was more familiar with perhaps.

The TWO new things to come this year for J.W Org !
by Phizzy inwhile having my first strong black coffee of the day, i was thinking about what may be to come next as the org.
rapidly goes mainstream, and this is what i came up with :.
1) they will introduce for sunday, the after meeting fellowship, a time for just chatting but with the added bonus of coffee and snacks.

" sod the after meeting coffee--lets have a licensed bar!
like a private members club--cheap booze ".
I actually suggested this, tongue in cheek, about three decades ago, because a lot did stay on after the Sunday Meeting, and even the Mid-week one. A lot of those who did not stay on, went home first, then met a bunch of us down the Pub.

Yup, a Club I belong to does that when we have a "pooled" meal, there is always lots too much food, so they could combine the Fellowship meal , which they will claim is based on the N.T "Love feasts", with the left-overs being a bit of a Food Bank.

Hi all,
While having my first strong black coffee of the day, I was thinking about what may be to come next as the org. rapidly goes Mainstream, and this is what I came up with :
1) They will introduce for Sunday, the After Meeting Fellowship, a time for just chatting but with the added bonus of Coffee and Snacks. This will just extend what many do anyway, spending that time gossiping etc. but will add to cohesion, and stop what a number used to do, rush straight off. This will be introduced as a "Loving provision from Jehovah", and as a time that new people can attend without even actually attending their first Meeting. hence convert prospects can get to know a few first, and the J.W's will be able to tick a Box every month because they did some "preaching".
2) THE BIGGIE, but subtly introduced as no real change at all, they will stress that all medical procedures etc, including the taking of Blood, are ENTIRELY a "conscience matter" and private. Nobody is to question what another J.W does, especially the Elders.
Thus they will no longer be known as The Killer Org. and it will totally remove any legal liability. By introduced subtly, I mean it will only be a "Clarification" of course.
Thoughts ?

Thoughts on Likely Upcoming Changes in the Org.
by Phizzy ini am thinking that the "ten year plan" that some have spoken of is the most likely scenario.
the org.
has to both attract new members and retain as many existing ones as possible.. so i think they will let the recent changes "bed in" for a while, maybe a year ?
