My life ... and how JWD came to be - Part 5
by Simon inmy life ... and how jwd came to be - part 1. my life ... and how jwd came to be - part 2. my life ... and how jwd came to be - part 3. my life ... and how jwd came to be - part 4. i swear, i thought it was only a couple of years at most since i wrote part 4 of "my life and how jwd came to be".
i re-read it after someone posted to it and brought it back on active topics and it was kind of prophetic in a way ... well, i had the 5 years part right if nothing else:.
it would be nice to visit the site (or whatever one is around then) in 5 years time to let people know how we're doing and find only a few of the same people still around.

It's great to read your story Simon! Are there any updates since you posted the last episode? Did you get your citizenship? Have you had any contact with any of your JW relatives in England?
Thanks for sharing it.

Signs of a Cult.. William Branham Cult
by tornapart inthis is very interesting, this guy was a cult member for 37 years.
replace 'william branham' for jw and you can see clearly what a cult really is.
he uses 10 points from steven hassan's book 'combatting cult mind control'.

Welcome Jack. I'm with you on this one. I've been 'awakened' for a year and a half now and I'm still 'in'. I understand exactly what you're saying. Some can just walk away without a backwards glance. For others it takes time... a long time even. I'm finding that the longer I stay in, the more chance I have of helping my family and friends see behind the curtain themselves, it's not something that can be rushed.
I look forward to your experiences! :)

DD, it's something you could use if you get questioned by the elders. Say those very 3 points that were said in the DC and say you are just following that advice.. ;)

So apparently I'm now a Secular Humanist
by Oubliette ini was doing some research on the subject of beliefs and belief systems when i came across an on-line survey/test that supposedly helps you determine which religion or philosophy is most like your current beliefs.
if you're curious, you can take the quiz here: belief system selector quizafter answering the 20 questions the results were spit out!

Maybe I am a little dense, but I just realized...
by DATA-DOG inthe wtbts teaches that, " the soul that is sinning..will die.
" this was re-hashed in the what is truth talk at the dc.
so i got to thinking about the wtbts's doctrine.

Another thing I was thinking that the WT doesn't talk about because it might seem to indicate a trinity. John 2:19, 21 where Jesus said HE would raise his body. How could he do this himself? Of course other scriptures show that God raised him. So what is the truth? If the spirit goes back to God but is 'sleeping' then God could awaken the spirit of the person. In Jesus case he could then go on to resurrect his own body. I do believe he raised his physical body as he still had the nail holes, also he raised Lazurus (4 days dead) just a few days beforehand, showing it could be done. When he went to heaven the transformation came just as Paul describes for chosen one during the 'rapture' (1 Thess 4:17; 1 Cor 15:51-53)
So... soul (body+spirit) dies. The spirit goes back to God in a sleeping state. The spirit is awakened by God when he chooses (or by Jesus). The spirit is given a new body (nothing unusual in this as the body we have as an adult is not the one we were born with). This body could be a physical body (as in the case of Lazarus) or it could be a spirit body, an incorruptible, immortal body to live in the spirit realm with God and Christ and angels.

I'd been thinking along those lines myself yesterday DD. I was thinking about the soul. When a person dies the body is still there but 'something' is missing, it's gone. The bible say in many places that the spirit (that 'something' that is missing?) goes back to God. Of course the WT says it's just the breath of life but it seems like it's much more than that to me. When that spirit goes back to God is it just in a 'sleeping' state awaiting resurrection? When a resurrection occurs the 'spirit' is united with a new body? Whether an earthly body or heavenly body, who knows. Just some musings on my part.
