Confused: What does the overlapping generation really mean?
by MicaSmith incan someone help me understand how the wt came up with the overlapping generation theory?
i just don't understand it even though i read the information several times.
it's bewildering.

It was this teaching that finally did it for me... I could see it was totally bizarre and the only reason for coming up with it was to prop up their teaching of 1914. I realised it couldn't prop anything up and for me the rest came down like a pack of cards. -

Muslim Shopkeeper Murdered for Wishing Friends a Happy Easter on Twitter
by cofty inhorrible crime in glasgow on thursday evening when a well loved muslim shop keeper asad shah was stabbed to death by at least one other muslim man.
mohammad faisal, a family friend, said a bearded muslim wearing a long religious robe entered mr shah’s shop and spoke to him in his native language before stabbing him in the head with a kitchen knife.. mr shah had posted the twitter message ‘good friday and a very happy easter, especially to my beloved christian nation’.
residents of shawlands in glasgow say he was well respected and had been known to hand out christmas cards to neighbours despite being of a different faith.. hundreds have turned out in a vigil near the crime scene....

I would just say that one was a decent human being and the other a brainwashed fanatic. -

I read that article earlier today Cofty and found it really upsetting. He seemed such a well liked and friendly guy and ready to integrate into a community of all faiths and persuasions, he loved the country he was living in. These extremists just can't bear it, they want to spew their evil ideology over everyone and anyone not following their path deserves to be murdered. Sick!! -

My jw friend keeps preaching to me in e-mails
by Queenme indear friends this is my first time posting.
i am not a jw and have never been one but i have a friend who married a jw and converted.
in spite of the bunk barometer going off in my brain over the years and never responding to her efforts to convert me, she just cannot stop preaching.

Status update and hello.
by Darkknight757 ini haven't posted here in a few months and to be honest i haven't been lurking either.
i hope everyone is doing well.😊 i wanted to take a minute to let you know how things have been the last few months.. recently the brothers decided to finally consider my letter of resignation.
they met with me alone and i let them know why i have become inactive as a publisher and why i no longer wish to serve as an elder in the congregation.

So sorry for your loss Darknight. I've been through that myself too, many years ago and you're right, it's not something you ever 'get over'. The pain of losing a child is unlike any other kind of pain and the grieving process takes a long time. I suffered with depression two years later and was told it was 'delayed' grief as I'd seemed to cope quite well at the time, went on and had another child and then 'Bam!' it hit me like a brick. Other people can't fully understand unless they've been through it. Especially as they may never have even seen your child as a baby. I really hope you and your wife find some way of coping with your grief. My heart truly goes out to you both. -

Will the Borg ever do what the WCG did?
by tornapart inwhilst not endorsing any of the beliefs or doctrines of this group i found it really interesting that once herbert armstrong died it had a major overhaul of it's beliefs and practices (very similar in a cultish way to jws).
apologising for it's errors and putting things right.
it became less judgemental, more encompassing of other christian faiths.

Whilst not endorsing any of the beliefs or doctrines of this group I found it really interesting that once Herbert Armstrong died it had a major overhaul of it's beliefs and practices (very similar in a cultish way to JWs). Apologising for it's errors and putting things right. It became less judgemental, more encompassing of other christian faiths. Putting more emphasis on love and forgiveness than obeying rules. Dumping all the millenialist stuff and in the process losing thousands of members. Now it's more mainstream christianity. It just got me to wondering, what if this happened to the WT? Only trouble is, the WT seems to be getting more hardline and delusional every year.
Anyway, if anyone wants to read the article it's here

In regards to memorial, what I am going to do
by Truth and Justice inwow!
what a list of new friends we have on this forum, i don't know if i'll ever be able to keep up, but that's ok.. i wanted to dive in to the post to talk about the memorial.
i do not have any intentions of going, even if i was invited.

With family still in, I feel I have to attend but watching the bread and wine being passed round feels to me like a rejection. 'Thanks Jesus, but not for me!' My thoughts are that all christians should partake. There is nowhere in the scriptures that say there are two types of christian and one type partakes and the other doesn't. So I partake privately on my own. It feels the right thing to do. -

Is this a site controlled by atheists?
by The Rebel inunder the exterior of being an ex- witness site, is this site simply converting atheism?.
i pose the question, because many come here in distress and insecurity with the realization that the w.t is wrong but still retain a belief in god.
my personal opinion is the threads on god are not challenged by an atheists personal animosity to believers, they are challenged and become confrontational because the atheist wants an elaboration and factual proof to a believers faith.. is this unreasonable?

I've been a member of this site for 4 years now and whilst I've noticed there are a lot of atheists there are also many theists too. I would take a guess though that the vast majority are now agnostic and just want to get on and have a happy enjoyable life without being bothered by anything to do with religion.
I do think it's a shame though when someone new comes here still expressing a faith in God and being lambasted for it (unless of course they are trolling). I don't see it happen often but occasionally it does. As my username denotes, that is how I felt when I discovered TTATT. Having my faith in God challenged at the outset would have been something I couldn't have handled at the time. It's a long slow process for many to challenge dearly held beliefs for so long. It's important to be as welcoming as possible to newcomers and not bombard them with atheism at the outset.
Nice post Rebel
