Should I send this letter to my non-JW cousin who refuses to listen to ANY criticism of our JW relatives?
by nicolaou insome background here; non-jw family members who are overly respectful and protective of the jw's.. i thought i might try a completely different tactic.
what are your views on my letter below?
i thought i'd let it sit with her for a couple of weeks or more before following it up .

I think if you send this letter it will just reinforce what they already believe. It's too emotional, too attacking and there is no reasoning in what you say. Also the points you bring out from the scriptures are meaningless if you make the point that you don't believe the bible.
You want a reaction from them... well I hope for your sake it isn't an unpleasant one.

Why elders' wives are such gossipers...
by Calebs Airplane ini have a theory as to why elders' wives gossip so much.
i believe a big part of it has to do with the conversation running dry (between themselves and their elder husbands) after so many years of marriage.
since they don't get to spend too much "quality time" together (because of the elder husband's hamster wheel schedule), when they do have some intimate time alone, the elder's wives will invaribly attempt to engage their husbands in any kind of interchange.

Caleb's Airplane.. that's a bit of a generalisation, I'm an elder's wife and I hate gossip. Out of all the elder's wives in our congregation I don't know of any who gossip. One or two of the elders are much worse than their wives!

Some odd developments
by dissonance_resolved inso things are not making sense at all here in my fade.
as i had posted earlier, i had a long intense talk the other night with my husband where i thought it was crystal clear just where i'm at right now with the wtbts.
then, the same week, he's not feeling well and asks me to take the kids to the mid-week meeting.

professing christians
by unstopableravens inif one claims to be a christain, a follower of jesus, should we not listen to his commands?
he said to love those who are hating and persucuting you, did he not say if some one asked you to go one mile go two?
if someone who is not a believer says something mean or rude ,does that open a door to reviel in return??

Sometimes I just see certain 'christians' come on here and goad the unbelievers and then wonder why they get teased mercilessly. After having a few taunts thrown at them they then proceed to throw their rattles out of thier prams.

Why we have Conspiracy Theorists......
by cantleave ineveryone knows a conspiracy theorist (let's face it we have a few on this board).
my attention has been to drawn to an article in the new york times, which i have pasted below.
apparently people with propensity to create conspiracy theory narratives are quite sane, even though they may have low self worth and cannot fully ascertain their place in the world.

BU2B:-" But most will just ridicule and never look into it for themselves, because if they do, their whole world view will be forever changed, just like a JW knows to look at anything critical could start them down a path where everything they believed in wasnt true."

And the reason why people don't believe in conspiracy theories is because of course governments never lie.... yeah... right....
Anyone that doesn't question things is just a sheeple....like we all used to be in Jdub land....

If man evolved?
by tornapart ini know anyone who believes in evolution is going to say that there is no 'if' about it.
however.... if man evolved over hundreds of thousands of years ago, why were there only about 200-300 million people alive 2,000 years ago?
surely there'd have been many billions by then?.

Well, I've got to say thanks to ones like Cofty, jgnat, Rawe and others for some very interesting discussions...

So what do you believe is the reason Christ came to the earth then? I'm just curious because I'm trying to balance in my own mind how someone can believe in evolution and still belive in Christ. I know many do and I'm certainly not being judgemental in any way, I just want to understand. There's so many new ideas and beliefs I've been taking on board over this last year... my own evolution I suppose! LOL
