How to plant the seed and create some serious cognitive dissonance??
by Bells inhey :).
for a while, i've sort of been wondering why i always check in with this board... i mean it's filled with great people of course - and is my only link to what's happening in the jw world, but i shouldn't care that much... i'm not a jw, neither is my husband - it's only his batshit crazy family who are and it shouldn't bother me that much.. however it does interfere with my life and when i'm around them, they do somehow manage to make me feel like crap.
i think it's all mad and they are most definitely stuck in a cult, however my husband - who grew up as a jw just sort of shrugs his shoulders and is a bit 'it is what it is' - it doesn't seem to offend him as much as it does me.... every time that i hear about a new change or scandal on here, i think 'surely this will be what wakes them up'!

Could you perhaps find out about another cult religion, Mormons, Scientologists, Worldwide Church of God, Moonies etc... then ask them what they think about it. Talk about all the things in that religion that do the same things as the WT, ie the control of thinking, behaviour and emotions, hiding their history, information control, shunning etc...(without mentioning JWs at all). Get the cogs turning in their brain. They may not see the link but it will make them feel uncomfortable about it. Also ask them what they think about Harold Camping and his false prophecies. Making them think about these things without them connecting the dots at the time may well help them connect the dots at a later time when the thoughts are triggered.

Your final WTF? Moment!
by restrangled init was a long time coming for me.....when i read about the extened generations, after being raised on1914 being the be all end all, and millions would never die....that was the end.
i was part of the 1975 fiasco, the 6 month only truth book studies, suffered through a disifellowshipping and their version of a rewind.
i finally am free and hope others can eventually look in instead of inside looking out!

Overlapping generation 'new light' at the DC 2010. Reading CoC was the nail in the coffin.

I dont think we should past judgement on people who post here for the first time
by smiddy injust saying , my 2 cents worth .
if they have an agenda it will be revealed in a short time , let them play it out .. however , some genuine first posters can be put off by somebody jumping the gun and attacking them .. please give the first posters time to get to know this site.. smiddy.

Yes I agree. I've seen a few who have posted for the first time, say something that others don't understand and before the first page is finished are being called out as a 'Troll' with others jumping on the bandwagon. It comes across to me as mob attack.
We should give new posters the benefit of the doubt until it becomes very obvious that someone either definitely is a troll or they are genuine.

CC, although I'm still in for my family's sake I have just about managed to shake off the guilt tripping and shame that goes with belonging to a fundamentalist religion. It's very freeing to be able to let go of it all, to get rid of that feeling that others have some kind of power over you. They don't anymore. The power that they have is only what you allow them to have. Take it back and you'll feel so much better!

First trip to Europe this summer...only 20 years later than I planned :)
by Gypsy Sam inso, i'm quite excited but also slightly freaked out as i'm able to go this summer instead of next like i had counted on (my daughter graduates next year and i was planning to go then).
this means i'm doing this last minute and i wanted to see if any of you have used https://www.go-today.com or gateone travel or go ahead travel?.
i'm planning on london, paris and rome for two weeks, likely july at this point.

You could tavel by train. Start in London then take the Eurostar to Paris. Then take an overnight train to Rome. Trains are very fast across Europe and easier than flying.
Some of my favourite places are:-
London- a boat ride up and down the Thames, London Eye, Tower of London, views of the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, St James Park, -easy to do in a couple of days.
Paris- Notre Dame, Eiffel Tower, boat ride on the Seine, Montmartre - maybe three or four days.
Rome- Coliseum, the Forum, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and Ostia Antica (short, easy train ride). Also three or four days.

Wow! that brings back some memories! I was a little kid then and went to that very one. It was always Twickers. I remember the food tents and those trays and sitting under the trestle table to eat it. It was like school food, stewed prunes and custard next to mash and peas. LOL This was after what seemed like hours queing.
8 day assemblies, morning, afternoon and evening sessions divided by lunch and teatime breaks. Don't know how my parents did it!! Strange thing is, it was quite a lot of fun as a kid!
