Pop Trivia
by Simon inso many serious topics lately ... so for anyone who wants a break, it's trivia time and the subject is pop music.. which act is the only one to have a top 100 hit both before, during and after the beatles had theirs?.
no googling.
if you guess, you also need to add a trivia question for others to answer..

by macys inas most of you know i have been shunned by my family for 2 years because of a photo posted on facebook of me kissing another girl at a party.
the matter was not dealt with fairly but it is over now and i am 100% certain that jdub org is a cult.

I saw a post on a friend's facebook page recently that I agreed with, it said :- Never apologise for trusting your intuition. Your brain can play tricks, your heart can be blind, but your gut is always right. -

I Hate the Sound of the Word Jehovah
by cofty inlistening to clips of the latest manipulative video from the watchtower i realised how much i detest that word - jehovah.. sometimes i have thought it would be interesting to observe a meeting or part of a convention.
every time i heard that word i would be unable to stay in my seat.. i have a visceral reaction every time i hear it.
it stands for so much that i have contempt for.

I find if I have to say the word to family or friends, it almost gets stuck in my throat. I never think of God with that name anymore.. I think of Him as Father in my own mind. When I hear it, it makes me feel very uncomfortable, especially when used in conjunction with 'organisation' ... that makes me feel physically sick. -

Couldn't take it anymore.
by Darkknight757 inso i decided yesterday to give my wife's full disclosure.
not sure it was the best decision considering she holds very firmly to the resurrection hope so we can see our babies again.. anyways she is agreeable to begin a study to find a better truth.
where is a good place to go to get some good reliable biblical info on the web that we can consider together?.

The NIV is my favourite... one of the things I've done is when I come across a passage that seems totally different to the NWT is to look up bible commetaries and concordances (the bible hub is a great online resource). It can make for some great discussions and different ideas. -

Thanks everyone for your experiences, it's great having a board like this, makes you feel less alone in having to deal with the fallout.

On respect for the belief of others. Sorry for the long post
by StarTrekAngel ini am inclined to start this thread in response to some comments made in other threads.
i have been coming around these forum for quite some time now so whatever you find in here is not just related to something someone may have said this week.
it can go months back as well.. i have seen many who claim to respect the belief of others but when it comes down to applying it into practice, things take a whole different tune.

I don't know if people's beliefs should be respected. If their beliefs work towards the good of humanity then yes, I can agree. For instance someone is a christian or a humanist and they believe that they can give of themselves to make the life of their fellowman better. But what of Nazis or a member of Klu Klux Klan... can their beliefs be respected? If a person's beliefs can work towards the good of someone else then yes... if it harms someone else then defintely no! -

It's been 4 years since it happened to me. An almost overnight experience. I read Ray Franz CoC in 3 days and that was it. It's taken all this time to come to terms with it. At first I felt that the rug had been pulled from under me. As a born-in it came as a bit of a shock, despite have many doubts about things over the years. How do you live with the fact you've allowed yourself to be duped despite the fact you know you have a certain amount of intelligence? How do you cope with seeing the person you love and live with still being heavily influenced by what you've realised is not 'the Truth' but a falsehood? Do you tell everyone you love what you've learned? What if they put up their barriers and don't want to know? It's been a long slow process for me, infinite patience with my loved ones... but several of them are now seeing through it all, including my children, their spouses and my best friend, her spouse and her children. It'll take more time for my spouse to see through everything but I believe one day it will happen. Just have to be patient!!

My hero has to be Ray Franz.. if it wasn't for him I'd still be trapped in a cult and not realised it...
