To Hooberus and Thi Chi...Matt 6:7..Do not say the same things over and over again..they imagine they will get a hearing for their use of many words. This endless cut and pasting is getting in the way of free exchange of ideas.

by Tyler insome of my comments (and that of others) on other threads have highlighted a basic differance between those of us who belieave jesus christ did exist, and those of us who recon he did not.
i belieave jesus as described in the gospells did not exist.
so i decided to start a thread that adresses this issue face on.

Tyler..the word stauros meant anything the persons using it wanted it to mean. Stake,cross,even tree. It was like any other word. "House" for instance to me suggests a squarish structure with gabled roof, yet of course it means many things to other people. In generalities it means a place to store things or dwell in. It is laughable for anyone to suggest the word stauros "means" one specific shape or another.

by figureheaduk ina few months back i was at my girlfriend's placed when i noticed a copy of the watchtower on her dining table.
if i remember correctly, the picture on the front cover was that of a donations bowl being passed from one hand to another, with the title being something along the lines of "religion : should it be funded?
" i didn't read the article (or any other part of that damned magazine for that matter), but i'm guessing that the following may have came up in that article in one way or another:.

I know you are addressing ISP but it may interest you to know the the Jesus seminar group is presently working upon a Paul project. And yes some are questioning whether any of the "letters" are in fact from somene named Paul or rather a Pauline school of pre-Marcion christologists overlain with Catholic polemics. Your frustration is aimed at us for requiring the same weight of evidence that you would likely demand of your local building contractor. Recent references. That you require only hearsay and 100 year old rumours and disregard the contradictions and suspicious origins of these rumours is equally frustrating to me. But I can live with it. Lets agree to disagree.

i know that they must be getting thouands of well thought out questions from sincere readers, yet none of these questions make the column.
i know that this is not surprising to many here.

Two separate letters could not have gotten lost in mail. I suspect the nature of the topic is why we have gotten no response. Those that commented here have spoke of sex,blood and neutrality interpretations, topics they are prepared to talk about. Ours was whether the Bible is "God's word" or a book of legend and propaganda. There was no belligerence in either letter, only heartfelt pleading for answers to questions that arose after watching a TV program on the Bible and reading reference works. I must admit I am surprised to find that we are alone so far among these comments in being totally ignored by the WT.

The elders said they did not receive any letter from the Society. I did not elaborate with them the nature of the question for fear they would accuse me of apostasy. The question was about Bible origins and historical impossibilities.
