Letter to FB JWs after I found out I was DF'd

so i said that i would post this letter that i sent out to fb jws who were still my friends on fb at the time.. a little background might be in order here.

i was called to meet with two elders in the hall because i had filed to run for political office.

i knew that sooner or later i would have to agree to do so.

Everytime I read this I am just inspired by how well thought out it was. A lot of times when they DF or DA you without notice, you just get very angry. Especially when they randomly do it without any real reason or rationale of a supposed violation. This is why I think it is so much like a cult; you give a very logical reasonable fact filled response to what was done to you. You did absolutely NOTHING WRONG. You decided to run for political office; so what. You didn't do anything actively against this religion, but because this imperfect men decided that by splitting hairs on guidance that they misinterpreted, they BAN YOU and all of your friends and possibly family in that religion are told to shun you. How can anyone in their right mind agree with this? There are so many people that have stories just like yours where they were DF'd not for an offense, but just because of the illogical actions of this group.

Each and every time I have brought up these type of things to my JW family (and it has been a few years for me), they make every excuse in the book for these type of offense. "I know the religion is not perfect" or "I don't agree with everything, but I think overall it is 'the truth" or my personal favorite "wait on jehovah to reveal all".

Thank you for sharing your story. If I lived near you, you would certainly have my vote!

Gave 5 JW's Something to Think About at a Starbucks Today

i was having coffee at a starbucks located in a supermarket chain in one of the towns i work in my business .

while sitting there doing paperwork , what looked like 3 elders on their field service break sat at a table no more than 4 feet from me .

after eavesdropping it was obvious they were elders as they were talking about the c.o.

It is funny someone saying that if they could get away with stoning someone, they would. It's a great analogy because the behavior of shunning is so archaic. They only thing it does it cause families to break apart. Forcing someone to belong to a group they really don't want to be a part of is ridiculous. It's so manipulative.

Does Jehovah Still Call Black People the "No-No" Word?

i feel the title is an attention-grabber, but in no means am i looking to start racial tension on jwn.. i know in the past, at least to the 50's from what i've read, the watchtower society has been very demeaning toward people of a less alabaster pigment.

in one instance saying white people were superior and god blessed them that way for good reason.. however, i have not been able to find an official statement from them in any of their printed works that either clears up or apologizes and further corrects that bold standing.. so, to those much wiser than me, is there an official statement from the watchtower identifying people of different race as equal?

and if not, to the ex/current brothers and sisters who are of an "ethnic" background, what are your feelings on the society's derrogatory statements being left unchanged 60-100 years later?.

They are some of the most covertly racist religious groups around, but try to pretend they are not. I still remember being taught that black people descended from Noah's son who tried to have sex with him; thereby they are from cursed people. You would be surprised how many people in that religion believe that nonsense.

depressed and starting to loose it

sooo... it has been a few good months since i started having doubts and started researching.

now very much convinced i had been lied to and my parents had not done their homework prior being baptised therefore it fucked up my future ... just a bit.

now also had been going out with a jw girl for 1,5 years... and i am starting to loose it... stuck in a lie, delaying the getting engaged because of my attitude towards religion(she knows i had doubts and always have been anti watchtower - got baptized anyway... stupid me - but she doesn't make a big deal out of it... she is not very strong spiritually) ergo i know i am not fit to be head of the house by jw standards... but i just love her too damn much to break her heart by leaving the organization and ergo leaving her.

Trust me, you have come to the right place. But you have to ask yourself if you really want to be married to that religion for the rest of your life. Do you want to be involved with a cult that will try to control your family life, up to and including the kind of sex you have with your partner? I mean, seriously, read some of the stories that people share on this site. My ENTIRE FAMILY on both sides are JWs with a few exceptions, I wish I had the privilege of not having to deal with them on any level. Do yourself a favor, turn back now, and don't even look back. "Remember Lot's wife..." (A favorite misused quote of the JWs)

Do you recall any disputes during the development of the New Song Book?

i seem to recall someone mentioning to me that george benson assisted with some of the work on the new song book.. then he left the assignment after an argument with the team.

is there any thing that anyone remembers about that one?.

I wish I could hear some of them for comedy sake. I haven't been in years and went just last week only for a family member's funeral. I just remember those songs as some of the silliest things set to music, I can't imagine them trying to "upgrade" them. LOL!

my wife saw shunning first hand

well the other day we dropped daughter back to her mother, after what was a fabulous whole week with me.. sitting on the verandah of the house is grandpa jw, about 80 and recently widowed.

now, he is my ex father in law and we got on very good back in the day, even helped build his house.. anyway, i drop daughter off and i am looking at the man, who in the whole 10 mins that he sat there, gave one cursory glance our way as i stood on the footpath opposite the house talking to my kids.. this is a guy who will talk the leg off a chair, a guy who will start a conversation with a total stranger in the street, the man is a talker.. i mention to wife as we departed..."poor bastard, not even 'allowed' to say hello the father of his grandkids''.

if i was not d/f i know he would have come over, no doubt whatsoever.

It is emotional blackmail and total manipulation. I think the shunning of family members is totally ridiculous and not Christian in any way.

Do you ever "out" yourself?

in the 22 years since i have left the jw religion, i have come across some precarious situations that i wanted to share and hear how other people handle it.

for the record i forced the hand of the jw and they df'd me.

i didn't care and i still don't, except for the family thing.

In the 22 years since I have left the JW religion, I have come across some precarious situations that I wanted to share and hear how other people handle it. For the record I forced the hand of the JW and they DF'd me. I didn't care and I still don't, except for the family thing. However, every so often whether in work or in some other business related fashion I will come across a JW. I know the signs since I was raised in that cult and it doesn't take long for them to talk. When it first happened I was still detoxing and I wondered if I should feel compelled to tell them, "hey, I hate your religion" or "guess what you can't talk to me, I am disfellowshipped" or my favorite "I'm an apostate so move it along, thank you very much".

But I'm curious, how do you handle such situations. Do you not say anything at all? These days I don't say a word. I work with someone right now that is an active JW and I smile in her face and laugh in my head. Can I mention she is one of the loudest most obnoxious people where I work, not very skilled or competent. When I bought my new car last year, the sales lady was a JW. I saw ALL the JW literature in her cube and I was so not surprised when she casually tried to ask me about my "spiritual beliefs". I was tempted to say, "I worship this demon named Satan, maybe you have heard of him?", but I just kept it light and fun, let her give me a good deal, and went on my merry way.

How do you handle such situations? Do you tell them or do you just let it ride?

The cult of the Jehovah Witness - Feel free to add your own interpretation

this has been on my mind all day.

i am grateful for a place like this to vent.

for anyone that is wondering why some of us are so disgusted and feel nothing but contempt for the watchtower organization aka jehovah witnesses, i want you to think about it from an outside point of view.. there are a few things that the jw organization does that is not only makes it a cult, but i want to at least touch on a few big ones.. it suppress free thought.

4) The threat of Apostasy. This happens to be my favorite tactic that the JW organization does to dessenters in or from their "ranks". Once you wake up to their cult-like tactics, hypocrisy, false doctrine, and the entire speel; many people want to help free the minds of those who have suffered either through emotional or psychological attacks from their family and members, so we reach out and help educate those who are "low hanging fruit". We write blogs, post on websites, and even write a book or two. Oh no, you have committed the worse sin possible by the JW standards. Even now on this site there are active witnessses that are posting as hidden under layers as possible for fear of reprisal. Heck, even those that have been gone for years are still feared by this last ditch tactic to silence you.

Thanks for allowing me to vent.

Received a very heart felt phone call tonite over the Df Watchtower article

tonight one of my sons called me just to say ," mom i love you !

" .. he told me that this weekend he had read a thread posted by kyria about the new watchtower on shunning df'd relatives ,and that it had really made him sad .

he said, " mom, i am so glad we are all out of the jehovah's witnesses ....i just don't think i could of stood it to think you guys not talking to me ...it really upsets me .

Thank you for sharing that. So many of us, including myself are disgusted by their new tactics. I am so glad people are seeing it for what it is.
