hey there, .

i have an apologetics website, and i've recently posted three articles on jw doctrine.

i was wondering if you all could make suggestions to improve them, or for new content.

What do you want credit for exactly? ... Swapping one religion for another is simply trading one set of superstitions for an alternative one.

It would be nice if you'd recognize that there are very intelligent people who hold religious beliefs, and that just maybe this doesn't constitute a lapse of their reason.

When you wrote:

The crimes of the hierarchy are crimes and I won't whitewash that. (In fact I only donate money to parish projects or organizations I'm involved with for this very reason) But I am not personally ashamed of what I had no personal involvement with anymore than you should be ashamed of atheists who've committed genocide in the name of whatever atheistic regime.

Cofty, there's actually little I enjoy more than a good philosophical argument with someone approaching a topic in good faith and with mutual respect for an opponent. But I'm not going to waste anymore time responding to you or any other atheists spilling their bile against all religion on this forum. I've got better things to do than subject myself to bigotry. While there are certainly some reasonable and level headed people here, the forums are filled with childish arguments and self righteous diatribes against religion.

A christian apologist trying to "free" members of a cult is the moral equivalent of a drug dealer hanging around a rehab clinic.
The RC religion is an authoritarian cult with doctrines that are even more irrational than the Watchtower.
What JWs need is rational thinking and evidence not another brand of superstition.

Obviously I disagree with you. But would you concede that a religion which includes in its ranks the likes of Fr. Georges Lemaitre, Louis Pasteur, Gregor Mendel, Blaise Pascal, etc., etc. etc. deserves a little more credit than the Watchtower? Is a historic Church like the Catholic Church, which has admitted and apologized for its grave errors and abuses, which are bound to happen in 2,000 years, really on par with the Watchtower? Furthermore, to lump all Christians in with the Watchtower speaks to a total lack of objectivity on your part.

In all of these causes do you see what's missing Salutaris?
Scripture, the bible is missing.

That's actually a very good insight. I imagine most Ex-Witnesses would be pretty sick of religion. Nevertheless, I'll continue to try and use scripture to defend orthodox Christian doctrines. It may have more of an impact on those who are newly caught up in the group.

(my room mate is technically RCC, but because of his own experience with priest abuse, he hates the Church - you can understand that)

I definitely understand that. Personally I'd like to see the death penalty for those "clerics." Or at least have them castrated, like Pope St. Pius V had done to them.

Yes. Any mention of the Roman Catholic church will be met with howls of derision.

In my very limited experience that hasn't been the case. So far, the two witnesses I know have treated me with respect, and commended me for being knowledgeable about the bible. I do my best to be gentle and respectful in conversation with them. But yes, their literature makes it very clear what the organization thinks of the Catholic Church.

This is an EX JW forum. 99% of the people that post or visit are JW's who have exited the religion for a variety of reasons

That's exactly why I posted here. You would know what would "wake" them up or cause them to think for themselves better than I would. I realize that is a tall order, but I have a personal reason for my recent interest in JWs. I'm sure that everyone is different, and I appreciate the value of other people's personal experiences and perspectives.

Cofty, thanks for your response! My website is geared toward Catholics to explain their faith intelligibly, in this case, to JWs. If that leads them to Catholicism, so be it. If you have a criticism of an argument or statement I make in an article on JW doctrine that is perfectly fine. It's just not my point posting here to try and debate Catholic doctrine. It's a JW site, not a Catholic one. I'm not looking to argue with anyone over transubstantiation on this forum, lol. I was actually trying to be respectful of the nature of this forum, not to be intellectually dishonest. I hope you understand where I'm coming from now.

I will read your link in more detail later. In my mind, Jehovah or Yahweh refers to "I am who I am" or however you translate it, which refers to God as the source of all being. For a Catholic, this is an appropriate designation of any person of the Trinity, which may be why you say it requires a selective reading of the evidence. I recognize it is predominately used to refer to the Father.

I have an apologetics website, and I've recently posted three articles on JW doctrine. I was wondering if you all could make suggestions to improve them, or for new content. Please let me know what you think.

It's a Roman Catholic website. I will not argue about Catholic doctrine on this forum. (If you want to do that you can shoot me an email through my site.) I'm just posting here for insight into the Jehovah's Witnesses and advice on discussing doctrine with them.
