The Biggest Mistake The GB Have Made In The Last 10 Years
by pale.emperor ini think the single biggest mistake the governing body have made in the last 10 years has to be creating jw broadcasting and putting their gb members on there... on a weekly basis too.. when i was a kid, i had no idea who the governing body were, what their names were or what they looked like.
there was one or two long term pioneers that knew the names of two of them but that was about it.. when i was about 10yo i imagined they looked something like this:.
ahh.... those learned men with a lifetime of bible knowledge just oozing out of their very hearts.

My Brother Called Me Yesterday...
by pale.emperor inmy brother isn't a witness but he was raised one like we all were.
after 15 years living his own life he decided about a year ago to have a bible study.
this being the case, as a non baptized witness he can still speak to me but he's getting a lot of pressure not to from elders and the rest of my family.

He rang me again today. He asked what he thought our dad would think if he were alive today and me being disfellowshipped, and asked do I think he'd talk to me. My answer:
Me: Well, you need to remember this isn't the religion my dad believed in.
Him: How d'you mean?
Me: Remeber when we'd all do the book study and Watchtower together? He believed that those who saw 1914 would be alive when the great tribulation started. He believed our religion is right to not have logos and that this religion will never ask for money because Jehovah is guiding it. He believed that Jesus was his mediator and that blood transfusions of any kind were unscriptural. Now - each one of them beliefs have been broken or bent. I don't even know if he'd still be a JW.
He didn't answer that. But he just said "I never thought about that".
Little seeds.

Crazyguy, he's also being told that I will try and steer him away. If I start mentioning sites like this and the reasons I'm not a JW any more it would be a red flag to him and it would also be playing right into the JW hands.
I need him to see this for himself, which I've no doubt he will.
I've been called many things, but pathetic I ain't. I know what I'm doing.

Remember the young brother that played the evil King in the last drama? I see him being a main contender for GB-ship. Seen him give a talk about "how we should oust any wrong thoughts" that was leaked online and he was a 10/10 cult leader.
Oh, those "wrong thoughts" we're "any doubts you have" by the way.

Ahh.... those learned men with a lifetime of bible knowledge just oozing out of their very hearts. They cant help but speak every sentence a pearl of wisdom. Guided by Jehovah's holy spirit, living simple, honest lives and always looking out for our welfare and spirituality - making sure we have the "proper food at the proper time".
So you can imagine my disappointment when JW Broadcasting is released and shows me that they actually look more like this:
We have a narcissist, a clown, a token black guy, a German guy who contradicts the other guys in his talks, a virgin, a liar and guy who makes up stories about an overlapping generation with a "simple chart".
They would have done a lot better stating behind the scenes and keeping the mystery alive. Also, how much has setting up the studio, the shiny tables, background and squeaky new flooring cost? Those pro cameras and sound equipment aren't cheap you know. For a publishing cult that has child abuse victim claims to pay out on you'd think they would be more frugal.

In the new system he'll have a chance to apologize to his victims - "Hi Beverly. It's me - Pete. Remember that time when I picked you up in my van, fucked you on the passenger seat and refused to pay the full wack, then I gave you a full wack over the head with my adjustable spanner? Well I was just being a naughty boy, and Jeebus has forgiven me my silliness. Lo, we're in paradise. Amen."
Let's wait on Jehovah - translation: let's do fuck all and forget about it.LMAO!!
Wilma: Pete? Peter is that you?
Pete: Wilma McCann! How are you?
Wilma: Fancy meeting you here <hug> well i must say i never expected to see you here.
Pete: I know! Well, i changed when they sent me to that mental asylum.
Wilma: Good, good.
Pete: By the way, sorry for smashing your head in on the grass back in 1975. And for stabbing you in the head, chest and neck.
Wilma: Ohhhhh that's alright Pete. It all worked out alright in the end.
Pete: Yeah... so hows the family.
Wilma: Oh well, then never made it Pete. They never became Jehovah's Witnesses before armageddon so were - ckkk! - you know, killed by Jehovah and Jesus.
Pete: Oh thats a shame. Still. Least i made it huh?
Wilma: That's the main thing Pete. Hey, im having tea with Mozart and Chairmin Mao later, you wanna come with?
Pete: Maybe another time, i already promised Elvis and Ian Brady we'd go bowling.
Wilma: Aww - never mind.

I was still in when he "converted" to the JW's. The way the rank and file dealt with cognitive dissonance of a serial rapist/murder becoming one of their own was brilliant.
"Well Jehovah must have drawn him because he read his heart and knew he was truly repentant".
"There was a king in the bible that sacrificed his own son to a false god - and Jehovah forgiven him".
"In the new system he'll have a chance to apologize to his victims"
And that old favorite... "Lets wait on Jehovah". Ah yes, the answer to all your troubles. Wait on Jehovah.

Oh dear.... He sounds like the perfect person the society targets.
If only mom and dad had emphasized more secular education and less cult education, your brother would have been fine today. Oh well, wishful thinking.
The FOG (fear, obligation, guilt) is just dripping from his responses. Very sad.
Tell me about it. I have to keep reminding him that he's doing nothing wrong. I'm cautious not to mention religion but sometimes im just dying to. Like "is that what the bible says or what the Watchtower magazines say?" or "so, according to the bible, Jehovah wants you to stop talking to me?"
But if i do mention religion it'll just solidify any accusations being spoken about me behind my back. Im obviously the talk of my old congregation because i went for a drink with an old work friend (we had two pints each). Only, my mother and sisters heard that i was "getting drunk with worldly ones". There's a difference. But i didn't go there. (Isn't gossiping, malicious rumors and back-biting what we're supposed to be doing?)

When i dissociated i was nagged, nagged, nagged by family and a concerned elder to take the letter back and sit in a judicial because of my "doubts". Worst thing i ever did. Now im disfellowshipped for apostacy. I would rather my Bethel record say i dissociated (left on my own terms).

Out of curiosity what are the specifics on your brother? I ask because I can't imaging anyone who has made a success out of their life for the past 15 years away from this dreaded cult ever considering going back to it.
My guess is that he has little to no college, is lower middle class and struggling financially, has difficulties in maintaining quality relationships and finds it challenging to discipline and control himself in what he eats, drinks, ingests, how he spends his money . . .
Wow DJS do you know him?!! At 18 years of age because he didnt have to go to the meetings anymore he didnt. He went out clubbing, drinking to excess, smoking, dabbled with drugs etc etc then the drugs screwed him up and he ended up with mental health issues. If he doesnt take his meds he claims he can "hear what people are thinking" or "has met many people from history in another realm" - yes he's messed up .But when he takes his meds he's fine.
All the time he made the occasional visit to the hall but never committed to it. Now that he's in his mid-late 30s he's looking for direction and purpose. He's very much into sci-fi and loves the idea of alternate realities and other dimensions and time travel etc. So this new crap about the end of the world and living in a bunker is music to his ears.
I dont think he'll take the plunge and get baptized. He'd last 2 weeks tops before he lights up another ciggarette, get DF'ed and he'd lose his entire support system (his family except me) and would most likely kill himself.
Sad, but true.
