I remember when i was dating an Oxford lecturer in politics, i shown her a watchtower magazine and within seconds she asked me "ok, they're claiming "scientists say..." what scientists? what are their credentials? what tests did they run? was it published and acknowledged?". As a JW we just accepted phrases like "scientists say...", in the real world, intelligent people require more than that. As a teacher, there's no way she's accept an exam paper without citations and credentials of the writer.

Last Memorial Experiences
by NoviceLocs14 ini'll share mine first.... i had never missed a memorial for at least a quarter of a century of my life.
i was kind of raised to believe that missing the memorial was a sin in itself.. by 2013 memorial season, i was missing most of my meetings (even though i was still technically part of my foreign language congregation), and i had just come off the pioneer list.
i still made plans to attend the memorial (god forbid if i missed that lol).. i knew that typically our memorials were around 9 pm, since we usually got last priority (being a foreign language hall and all).

The last one I went to was 2 years ago when I was still an active JW but in the process of awakening. Didn't go to 2017's because I was already wide awake and out.
I am going to next years though so I can eat and drink it. My arrival will make the elders think coming back, that I'm playing their game. But when they see me partaking it'll likely piss them off. I hope so. Might even break a peice off for my daughter to eat.

Okay. so how are divorces happening when someone leaves the borg? That is not a scriptural ground.
Well we all know the only reason a JW can get a divorce. My ex and i are separated. But since leaving me for simply not believing that Stephen Lett and co. are going to be kings and a priests with Jesus i've taken care of that issue and she can now seek a divorce... many times over

Interesting Thing My Little Girl Said Today
by pale.emperor inmy 3yo daughter lives with me 4 days and with her mum 3 days.
i have her tues, wed, fri evening and saturday all day.
which means my ex takes her to sunday and thursday meetings but she doesn't go door knocking on saturday because she's with me.. i dont mind - at the moment - because in a way i want her to know the jw jargon so we can talk about it without having to explain what it is, and i want her to compare the bullshit to the real world.

My 3yo daughter lives with me 4 days and with her mum 3 days. I have her Tues, Wed, Fri evening and Saturday all day. Which means my ex takes her to Sunday and Thursday meetings BUT she doesn't go door knocking on Saturday because she's with me.
I dont mind - at the moment - because in a way i want her to know the JW jargon so we can talk about it without having to explain what it is, and i want her to compare the bullshit to the real world. My ex is hit and miss with the meetings as it is. It's not uncommon for her to call me on Thursday or Sunday when she should be at the KH - she even gives me an excuse of why she didn't go (like she needs to explain herself? Remember those days?). Anyway... i was walking home from the bus stop with my little girl yesterday and we had this conversation. Keep in mind, she's 3yo:
DAUGHTER: We're not going to the hall are we?
ME: No. I dont go the hall.
DAUGHTER: Later?
ME: No. Later we're going to a...
DAUGHTER: Cafe!!!!!! :-D
ME: Yep. Hey, i used to go to the hall you know. Remember?
DAUGHTER: No. (She was 2 when i stopped going). do you know _________ (her friend)
ME: Yes. I know her mummy and daddy. When i was little i was in the same hall as her mummy. I used to knock on doors too. Have you done that?
DAUGHTER: No! (laughs)
ME: Do you want to?
DAUGHTER: No!
ME: Cummon, lets knock on this door (i pretend im going to walk up a random path and knock on their door)
She laughs hysterically. I asked her what it's like in her hall as if i dont know. She described it as a room with books where she plays with her friend and the mums talk... she was describing the back room. So meeting attendance is just my ex sitting in the back room talking to other mums while the kids play? That's good news for me, it just means she's not there for the "spiritual food" and most likely doesn't even want to go. My kid just thinks it's a play room. I cant imagine any bible study at home going on seeing as when we were together my ex was studying the Bible Story book. Seriously. The Bible Story book!

Convention invitations
by dothemath inso everyone is supposed to get all excited about the invitation work starting tomorrow, according to the announcement from the platform.. maybe this makes sense if you're giving out invitations in the city where the convention is, but what if you're many hours away?.
a huge part of western canada is scheduled to attend edmonton alberta this july.
so how does that go over giving out invitations in winnipeg, about a 13 hour drive(that's just driving time).. i know some are actually planning on flying there, so i can't see getting excited about getting the public to make the trek.. i was curious how this is going over in other areas?.

freddo
Utter, utter complete and utter - waste of time.
You're right freddo. It wasn't until i left that i noticed just how unsuccessful these campaigns are. When i was in i thought "wow! surely only Jehovah's holy spirit could direct such a thing. Everyone in the country receiving an invitation."
Last year i never received an invitation through my door. I probably wont receive one this year. Come to think of it, i haven't had a JW knock on my door at all in a whole year. And it cant be because the congregation is avoiding my door because i moved 8 months ago and they dont know my address.
Waste of time, energy, money and paper.

What would it be like with no death? hmm... over population for a start. Does that include animals, insects, germs and plants too? In that case the world will be unbearable within 6 months.

Hi pale emporer
I am sure I saw your video fairly recently if my memory serves me correctly. There are no lengths these people will go to. These guys couldn't simply accept your decision to dissacociate and leave it at that. Its despicable what they did especially when they know the consequences you would face. Downright cruel.Thankyou for sharing your experience. Your answers have given me all the answers I need. In your case, you are happy with your decision and am glad you have found closure. This cult screws up people's lives. They break up families. It is so sad. I wish you and your daughter all the best for the future.
Hi. Thanks. Yes that video actually resulted in LOTS of JWs getting in touch. A few from the north west of England contacted and arranged a meet up. I've met some people who's lives have been really F'd up when all's they wanted was to be left alone. I took the video down after about 2 weeks. I wanted to get it out there but not for all my family and former friends to see because all that would happen is i'd be gossip for my former congregation. I may do another one in more detail in the future.

Jesus—The Way, the Truth, the Life. This is the book that replaces The Greatest Man Who Ever Lived book. Because the Greatest Man book is now... you guess it OLD LIGHT.
How many hours, weeks, months, years did we spend studying that book over and over again? So many times that my answers were still highlighted and written in the margins so i didn't even need to study it the other times it came around. Well that was a waste of time wasn't it? We probably should have, you know, just studied the bible like we were supposed to in the first place.
