I used to agree with spanking. My dad was old school and would hit us full force with a slap across the face. On at least one occasion I was picked up and thrown at a wall. I used to think this was good parenting, that it's "just what kids need these days". But I've since changed my position. Looking back I behaved myself because I was scared of getting a beating - not because I thought what I was doing was wrong. Also, it looking back my dad was unapproachable. I'd fear owning up to something simply because I knew I'd like get the shit kicked out of me.

Corporal punishment
by Incognigo Montoya inso i just finished watching the latest cedars video on spanking children.
i like lloyd, and think that overall he does a good job covering issues in his videos.
but i've gotta disagree with him on this issue, to a point.. i don't agree with beating your children, but i do believe in spanking, when appropriate.

The Watchtower Tract Society doesn't print Bibles?
by Nathan Natas inafter reading a few comments here, i thought it was time for me to get a copy of "the silver sword" for my own occasional research and occult practices.
so i thought i would see if jw.org would offer a way that i could purchase a printed copy (not digital) of the new world translation.
as i browsed, it occurred to me that i might also like to have a copy of the... what was it?

I smoked my bible after I'd left. Used it to roll joints (it was a poor smoke).
WT also had rights to the Emphatic Diaglott. I think they'd still support this as it about the only basis for their translation of John 1:1.
I bought a copy from the Christadelphians from their website. A snip at £5!

The photodrama was not produced by Jehovah’s Witnesses, it was produced by the Bible Students (who are still going and would be rather pissed at JWs stealing their credit). Jehovah’s Witnesses didn’t exist until 1931.
How misinformed can one be about their own “religion”?

How do they decide when to get rid of certain information in their publications?
by Tameria2001 ini was recently watching a video on youtube and on the john cedars channel, he was talking about how the watchtower has discontinued quite a few of their books from back when i was still active.
so it got me to thinking about how do they decide that certain teaching doesn't fit them anymore.
so i was wondering does anyone have any ideas on how they come to that decision because if any of their members bring up something, that person can be disfellowshipped?.

I’ve wondered this myself. At what point does everyone know that such and such a book is old light? Is the Revelation book still cannon or is it old light now?

His Rose colored glasses are back on
by HappyBlessedFree inso my husband who was not attending meetings for the last four months, went to the special talk, the memorial and the meeting today.
he said he feels jehovah’s spirit is back and that they are all being so kind.. i am just sick to my stomach.
he just refuses to see anything as a problem.

Yh, my never-baptised older brother ended up going to the memorial too. He told me “everyone was talking to me”. We all know what they’re up to, love bombing to get the “lost sheep” back under control.
And we also all know that it dies down and disappears once someone becomes regular or – heaven forbid – actually joins the cult.
He didn’t have anything to say about the actual talk or ceremony but he did say there were fewer there than last year.

It makes sense do to this, but not in a good way. It's just another sign that things are not "progressing at a fast pace" like they claim. A cult that boasts about the two most publishes magazines in the world reduced to an IKEA cabinet of wafer thin propaganda.
So lets recap:
- Reduced pages in the literature
- Reduced number of mags per year
- Encouraged to use digital publications
- Selling KH's and merging congregations
- Encouraged to "Honor J£hovah With Our Valuabl£ Thing$"
Sounds like someone is running out of cash.

My disturbances about the world...
by nowawake14 ini was at the store and i saw this young black girl.
i swear she had to be 13-14. she was preg!
and huge!

You do realize that the biblical Mary was likely 12-14 right? Jehovah didn't have a problem impregnating that so...
But lets talk about morals. The bible is a-ok on slavery, raping women of other nations, genocide and killing babies for the crime of not being Israelite. Is this ok with your morals?

Going To The Meetings To Give A Witness
by Brokeback Watchtower ine tricki've been tossing around the idea of perhaps going to a meeting in the future just to check things out i'm in no hurry this could happen months or years from now.
i would like to give them a witness about some of the problems i see as a newly interested person checking things out.
maybe just hanging back after coming to the meeting late and casually talking with people as a non pushy interested in what going on after some internet search led me to jw.org.

Not that I make a habit of talking to them at the carts, but I found this method seems to get around their apostate radar...
I ask them "So who's Jehovah? Is he, like, your prophet or something?". This makes them think I'm clueless about religion, because any theologian would know the word Jehovah.
Then I tell them that my family are into Scientology and dont talk to me because I'm considered a "suppressive person" and "disconnected" from the religion. You'd be surprised to learn that when I said this in the past the JWs said "that's horrible". I almost broke character.
The only time a conversation got shut down was when the JW swore blind to me that the bible doesn't advocate slavery. Of course, we all know it does. When I pointed to the scriptures he explained it away as "they were treated well, more like servants" (tell that to Hagar).
