i was listening to a radio show about a jw women who had been disfellowshiped , her daughter cut off all contact ,must admit at the time i thought so what.. then this man phoned up and explained he was disfellowshiped for asking about jws being ngo in the united nations during 90s till early 2000s when a newspaper exposed them , i still thought he's a apostate but looked it up found the article then found this forum and even more info..
Mine was due to elders interfearing in my family and everything I do. In frustration I came on here to vent and recieved more support from so-called "apostates" than I ever did in the JWs.
Once I read Crises Of Conscience by Ray Franz there was no going back.
Once you realise that the elders have no power over you you stop being so afraid of them. I was disfellowshipped by a bus driver and two window washers.
my mother is a jw.
i studied for several years and ultimately could not digest what was being served.
for the last 20 years my mother has done nothing to prepare for retirement.
My mother got "the truth"™ when she was 15. Baptized when she was 17. She's now 62 with absolutely no retirement plan or savings. She lives from week to week like she always has. Good thing she lives in the UK where she'll benefit from social housing and medical care. My never JW brother tells me she spends every waking moment on the ministry or carts. She's finally acheived her life-goal of becoming part of the congregation clique (but this is also because the clique from the 90s/00s have since woken up and left).
When she finally croaks I'll wait and see if JW. org have a whip round for her funeral costs. I'm not holding my breath.

they'll write pages and pages of stuff and yet they don't have any idea.. here's a paragraph from their latest speculations on future events, bolding is mine.. a prophecy recorded by ezekiel gives some insight into what may happen during the last days of the king of the north and the king of the south.
if we view the prophecies of ezekiel 38:10-23; daniel 2:43-45; 11:44–12:1; and revelation 16:13-16, 21 as speaking about the same time period and events, it appears that we can expect the following developments.. that's an awful lot of assumptions to make.
what they've done is picked out various scriptures from different parts of the bible and now state that they may or may not be talking about the same events.
Just finished reading through that WT. It's the first time I've read one since leaving 4 years ago.
What strikes me straight away is how outlandish their claims are, very little evidence presented and what "evidence" they present is circular reasoning or confirmation bias.
The horns represent Britain, Spain, France and the Netherlands? Really Watchtower? Any evidence for that? Any at all?..............................................

i've looked for scholarly articles published on peer reviewed journals for years.
I think JW life and doctrine leads to mental illness. Especially depression. But of course, the problem is always placed on the person and never the org that causes the problem.
Waiting, waiting, waiting for a day that's always "just around the corner" (since 1875) but never comes. To keep yourself on your toes every second of every day is not healthy.
Forcing yourself to suppress or stifle your deisres, goals or interests simply because a magazine told you to also isnt healthy.

the big one in our hall was no frontal hugs!
these were generally thought of as inappropriate, only side hugs should be given between sisters and brothers.
Also, you'd be expected to go to the meetings even while you're on holiday (vacation) and "bring back the love of that congregation".
a jobo i know has cancer.
her son goes and cleans her house and generally cares for her.
so does another non-jobo relative.. the congregation, interestingly, has shown very little support apart from the odd one rabbiting on about 'bible promises this and that'.. so, the co visited and said, 'but your son is an apostate(tm).

i just got back from field service.
i haven’t been out in a few months so now we don’t keep any written records and we don’t know which houses are do not calls.
i also noticed i was the only one with a book bag.
Weather was poor, perfect day for FS. Drove to see one call, guy was completely disinterested. Then off to coffee. Day was done.
And that was too much. Ok, I’m done for a month.

Over 5000 more memorial partakers in just 4 years?
I remember in the 90s when we were bragging that the numbers were going down - a sure sign that the big A was close at hand.
when i was affiliated with the witnesses, there were barely 6,000 who profess to be of the anointed remnant.
i recently read somewhere that today there are over 20,000 who profess to be anointed.
that figure may be more when you consider those who meet and partake privately for fear of the stigma of claiming to be anointed.
It always creeps me out how the literature tells the members how to think, as if what they say is law:
Anointed Christians do not feel that they should spend time only with other anointed ones, as if they were members of an exclusive club. They do not search out other anointed ones, hoping to discuss their anointing with them or to form private groups for Bible study.
And yet, some do. So what does that tell you?
