I read one bible commentary that said that this verse is talking about literally sick people. Like those needing to be healed. And that they believed prayers of others could make them well. Notice that sins being forgiven is tacked on at the end as a side note. The main point of this scripture is about healing the sick.

by The Fall Guy inwatchtower november 2017, page 10, paragraph 8 - "today, a christian guilty of serious sin needs to seek the help of congregation elders to recover.
) why is this so important?
first, the arrangement for elders to handle cases of serious sin comes from jehovah, (2nd lie!

What is the most practical step we can take to prepare for future difficulties? (2Ch 32:7, 8) [Jan. 4, w13 11/15 2017]
We should strengthen our faith in God and help our brothers to do the same.
We must all be ready to obey any instructions that we may receive, whether these appear
sound from a strategic or human standpoint or not. Now is the time for any who may be put-
ting their trust in secular education, material things, or human institutions to adjust their
thinking.Adjust ones thinking... in otherwords, mind control?

Odd things that come to mind when buying something!
by stuckinarut2 ini was just thinking about the odd things that arise when out shopping.. i saw a bag the other day, and thought "that would be a perfect 'service' bag as it is just the right size for....oh hang on...".
and when buying nice shoes, the thought is there somewhere..."these will be comfortable when walking around the streets...".
gotta laugh hey!

I thought I was an atheist until some things happened that made me question that too.
I think everything has a reasonable explanation. I was sitting at the piano only last night and i could very clearly hear someone running up and down the stairs. It wasn't my daughter because she was fast asleep in bed, and she's only 3 so cant run up and down them. As a JW i would have been convinced it was demons. Turns out it was her next door doing her exercises.
Being an atheist for me is living without fear of anything supernatural. If something supernatural does happen, i'd be curious to figure it out using science and mathematics. Not faith. Imagine if someone could prove with science and mathematics that they can talk to the dead. That'd be the greatest scientific discovery ever. We could use it to solve crimes, answer questions and advance humanity. But no... "mediums" dont do that. They just charge you £70 to tell you they're getting the name "John" or "Joe" or "Jodie?".

JW renaming things: "It's Not this, it's ....."
by Muddy Waters inthis was brought up in another thread, but i thought it should have its own thread.
feel free to add your own observations and experience.
the jws are so duplicit, and they rename things to somehow justify their own irrationalities.

...and by the way (according a video at the 2017 RC) the JW repentant sinner has to sit at the back of the Kingdom Hall and face further segregation and humiliation during that year-long reinstatement process!
Seriously? Has anyone got a video/sound recording of this?

You are the second exJW that has said they have embraced Buddhist philosophy in their life, I wonder if it would help me find some peace?
It will. As i said, im not a Buddhist, nor do i believe in reincarnation or karma but somethings the Buddha said are remarkable similar to Jesus and he predates him by hundreds of years.
I highly recommend this book: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Teachings-Buddha-Jack-Kornfield/dp/1590305086
Take what you like from it and use it, discard which you dont feel you agree with. You'll go through life a lot more relaxed and calm.
