Accepting that the chances of us being born at all were almost impossible coupled with the fact that life is finite means I live my life NOW and I own my own mistakes. It also means we should love who we love completely and not take it for granted because one day they won't be around. And neither will I.

Explain why you are happy if you believe there is no afterlife vs when you joined JW's
by Bad_Wolf inone thing that has intrigued me are so many who have left, who are wholly convinced everything in existence is merely by chance now, also claim they wouldn't want to live forever, and perfectly fine if this is the only life.
now, i would understand that if you were raised into the religion.
i was raised into it.

No new releases? How are the r&f taking this?
by purrpurr inis it true that there's been no new releases at this summer's convention?
if so it will be the first convention in decades perhaps ever to not produce at least a new tract.. how are the r&f explaining this to eachother?
surely they must have noticed the absence?

I thought I saw a new book/mag on offer on the carts this morning. I made my way across the road and it looked like a Jonah book/mag in plastic wrapper. Picked it up and it was simply the convention release unfolded in a plastic bag... also containing an Awake! on "12 Secrets Of Successful Families" (oh the irony!).
Seriously wafer thin. I actually didn't even know it was in there until I opened the bag.

God's people would never be charged with any of these "crimes" as they always apply Bible laws to their lives.
Actually, Trotters, the org is guilty of doing 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10 and 11.
3. Repeatedly putting you down4. Stopping you from seeing friends and family
5. Scaring you
8. Being extremely jealous
9. Forcing you to obey their rules
10. Controlling what you wear
11. Making you do things you don’t want to -

The Latest Thing Waking People Up...
by pale.emperor insince i woke up and left i've been contacted by others i knew from my youth who've also left the cult.
also people around the world on facebook adding me out of the blue because we have mutual friends and they occasionally ask me stuff or share their story.. what i've noticed in the vast majority of cases, is that people are waking up not because of the arc or doctrine but apathy.
active jws are becoming less and less interested, less and less bothered.

She should feel guilty for speaking abusively of one of the Glorious Ones. I really like the way Brother Morris lays it on the line in plain terms so there is no chance of misunderstanding what he said! There should be more Jehovah's Witnesses just like him.
What say you Trotters? Are you feeling the apathy where you are?

Excellent Netflix Documentary: Deprogrammed
by pale.emperor ini watched this really interesting documentary on netflix the other day.
it's about a man called ted patrick who became a cult deprogrammer after his son was recruited into a cult in the 1960s.
he basically self taught through trial and error and interviewing many cult members and former-members.. i must say i dont agree with his method, maybe as a last resort but i think it's likely to do more harm than good.

I must say I dont agree with his method, maybe as a last resort but I think it's likely to do more harm than good. It's the same as Steve Hassan's method - bundle them into a car, take them to a remote location and start the deprogramming procedure through asking questions and introducing them to former members.
One cult on there even refers to themselves as "the truth". She say's something we can all relate to:
"When I was in, we'd look around at other groups like the Hari Krishnas or Moonies and say "yeah, they're in a cult". But we never noticed ourselves as being in a cult. We were in the truth."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOTtvY_B6Do
From what I noticed from this, cults seem to follow the same basic method to manipulate the everyday person into their group:
- Find a ripe target. They will approach students, activists looking for a cause to fight for or grieving relatives and people in a low point in their lives.
- Love bomb. Invite them to a free lecture, meal or vacation. During the lecture or vacation the leader and the deeper teachings arnt mentions. At most they'll talk about how bad the world is and how they're working to make it better.
- Isolate the target. Get them away from critical friends/family. Take them away on a vacation with like-minded members or make them commit to a few days of courses away from anyone else.
- Find a handle to exploit. In most cases it was the bible. You can twist any scripture to fit your narrative. One father was talking to his son and became absolutely exhausted with the circular reasoning his son was using. His son said "Jesus said your enemies would be members of your own household" (sound familiar?). Questioning the cult was questioning the bible.
- Get them to give up university, their family and their friends. This makes them dependent on the cult and leaves them empty if they ever leave. Therefore people will come back or escape from their concerned family.
Check it out if you can.

Come now, when they produced a new release it was always received as "see, we're given bountiful spiritual food by "the slave"!"
And when no new releases are dished out it's received as "see, they love us so much they're not giving us any extra burden of more reading material! I never did like reading so much anyway..."
In my experience, reading is only a burden for the non-studious type.

Do Circuit Overseers outrank Elders? Why can't they talk to disfellowshipped people?
by garyneal inlast sunday, our family went to the kingdom hall and i realized that this was the week that the circuit overseer was in town.
when we sat down, i noticed he came over and talked to her then he walked away i guess to talk to others.
a few minutes later, he returned to tell her that he could not talk to her because he was informed that she was disfelloshipped.

Him coming back to say 'sorry, wont talk to you no mo' is probably his last shred of human decency combined with the desire to let the DFed know they are being punished because they're DFed. He prefers to be a shunning asshole over being mistaken for an asshole who forgets about a conversation and doesn't return to it.
I agree.
Why go back to someone simply to tell them they're not going to talk to them? It's TO MAKE A POINT. "Look at me! I'm shunning you! I wouldn't have treated you with decency just earlier if i'd known!"

The ministry is so easy now - you can just do cart witnessing.
No deep study is required - the studying is all done for you.
You dont even need to look up the scriptures anymore, a simple tap on your tablet brings the scripture up on a little box on screen.
The zeal is bleeding out of the Kingdom Halls. And long may it continue.
