  Explanation please on the change of the term "worldly"

  i've picked up from several replies to posts here that the org has stopped using the term "worldly" as it applies to people.

  this must have happened after i left.

  would someone be so kind as to explain the "rationale" behind this shift?

  Yep they still use the term around here too. I refuse to use it because it is a derogatory label. And as far as i'm concerned, every witness i've ever met has a "worldy job, car, house, takes worldly vacations, buys worldly clothes, supports worldly businesses, etc. So unless they want to stop doing those things, they are as worldly as anyone.

  Signing Away Your Hard Earned Cash

  reading the meeting workbook study for this week to see what my family will be reading at their meeting, once again they are asking for members for generous gifts not only from money they earn but also part of any investments they may have and making future arrangements for them to inherit after death through their wills.

  My wife went to the meeting Tuesday night and said the whole local needs was on donating. They accept cash, check, credit, debit, wills, inheritance, land, stocks etc. If its worth something, they want it. You can set up recurring donations if you don't want the hassle to remember to donate. The video showed kids dropping in their money and they even gave a tutorial on how to use the website to donate. And to top it all off the WT has a hotline you can call if you have any questions on how to donate!!

  Last time i checked the WT doesn't have a hotline to call about questions regarding the society or to answer bible questions.

  Why "fancy dress" and "theme weddings" were BANNED by our Congregation!

  our kingdom hall was in a boring town of 30,000 people so to spice things up me and some special pioneers living with us decided to have a fancy dress up party!

  what could go wrong?

  nice clean fun, and no booze (oh crap!).

  i have seen a few comments about this week's meeting.. was there actually a part that specified an actual per-publisher amount that should be donated regularly?.

  can this be confirmed please?.

  i truly cant believe just how brazen the society seems to be getting - and how desperate they are!.

  And WT knows that all the elders have to do is introduce a resolution to the cong. to send a specified amount and they will get it. Then the local k.h. can be short on funds that month because of it.

  mine was seeing a greenhouse with mannequins inside.

  Went to an RV one morning and as i was standing there, the peoples dog is running around like crazy because it is so excited and as it jumps on the porch it hurt its leg and started yelping in pain really loud. The lady opens the door and screams at me "you kicked my dog!", then the husband is running down the stairs of the second story with a closed fist and i am thinking "oh shit i'm gonna get knocked out right on the front porch." He comes running to the door but held back from knocking me out. Then proceeded to follow us to the car saying he is calling the cops. Never went back to that one.

  Last nights CLAM meeting

  so hadn't been to a clam meeting in quite a few months, but went last night.

  so we learned that gog of magog is not satan as previously believed.

  they used a few scriptures that made it clear that it couldn't be satan and that it would be a coalition of nations.

  Yes i felt bad for the children in the audience, being told that they basically have to be baptized to be able to be saved and also the bunker video must be scary for them to watch.

  Its hard for me not to laugh at the video because it is just so corny. Not sure why the gb feel its ok to scare people like that in made up situations.

  So hadn't been to a CLAM meeting in quite a few months, but went last night. So we learned that gog of magog is not Satan as previously believed. They used a few scriptures that made it clear that it couldn't be Satan and that it would be a coalition of nations. I was a little confused that if these scriptures were so clear then how'd they screw that up in the first place.

  Then we watched a bunker video and had a discussion. The conductor called the police storming into the room "storm troopers" as did a few people who commented. I was a little confused by this also. Is that a common thing they are called in other halls? All i could think of was Star Wars.

  Also had another talk on the 3 things needed to survive into the new world.........1. need to preach. 2. need to be baptized. 3. need to be at meetings. All of these were stressed as things that needed to be done in order to be saved.

  After meeting overheard someone saying how good the bunker video was and how much it scared her and how real it was. So obviously the scare tactics are working on some like the WT intended.

  interesting observations i've noticed when visiting my uber elder cousin and his wife.

  he just inherited a lovely home on the water on puget sound from his non jw dad who passed away earlier this year.

  so they have spent many $$$ and months remodeling this house to their standards which are quite expensive tastes.

  They are just following the Watchtowers actions and building bigger and newer places to live! While witnesses in africa get to sit on wood benches and dirt floors.
