It is based on the false premise that atheism is a positive assertion that there is no god - it isn't.
Of course that is just exactly what atheism is according to the dictionary..... as I pointed out and provided an example of.
i`m only halfway through chapter 4 and enjoying what i have read so far .so why am i asking for peoples comments now ?
the reason i have is this : i wish i had done something like this when i first was approached by the witnesses ,i beleive i would have been more informed to make some enlightened decisisions that would eventually shape my future .. whereas not doing so i spent the next 33 years a slave of the watchtower , and not just me but my wife and children , not that i`m suggesting i would be a slave of richard dawkins , but i can weigh up the pros and cons as i progress through his book ,then hopefully i can draw the right conclusions , if their are any.. smiddy.

definition: a thought-terminating cliche is a commonly used phrase, sometimes passing as folk wisdom, used to quell cognitive dissonance.. here's mine: we don't believe that way ..... we are christians in this home..
“We all have to do things we don't like.”

Clearly Dawkins is a very confused man.
Cofty, are you going ot answer my question about how you can claim to be an atheist since that REQUIRES you to be omnipresent. This is very simple logic.

As an atheist...
Cofty,
Even the great Dawkins himself retreats into the area of agnosticism when cornered as to a characterization of himself. Are you claiming to be omnipresent?
sorry folks, no laser pointer and cherry picker to wheel around like al gore..... for those that keep up with the cagefighter show you will know a couple of things have been perculating in my mind lately.
first, i discovered matthew 27:52 (the much downplayed zombie apocalypse raid of jerusalem as i call it now).
i have always been able to buy the gospels for some reason up to the resurrection.
Yes the 'ole Methodist church. They one I used to attend (the first church after JWdom) was full of events and fun stuff but light on real believers walking in the spirit.
They even had a self-lead SS class for bi-polars. I always wondered how they cooridinated their leadership since you'd probably never know who was "up" that day and who was"down" until the last minute.

The better question that I would like the answer to is "How do you decide what you want to see?"
That is a very profound question.
So everyone who alleges Dawkins he doesn't really know what he's talking about should ask themselfe, if he really understands atheism and why people think the way Dawkins does.

noun 1. the doctrine or belief that there is no God. Similar to amoral meaning = without morals; atheism means the doctrine that there is no God = without God. Since God is omnipresent, an atheist would by necessity have to be omnipresent himself to be able to declare that God doesn't exist, having looked everywhere for him and finding none. The paradox is of course is that if the atheist was omnipresent so as to be able to truthfully back up his claim, his declaration would immediately falsify his charge because being omnipresent himself.... he would in fact be God! Why would anyone want to learn anymore about an impossibility like that?
mtwtf warning.
this post contains much speculation.. it does not mention the mayan calendar.
i dont know the hour, or the day nor for that matter, the week, or the month, or the year, or the decade, or the century, or even the millennia when the end will come, yet im still interested in it.

The above link represents the most common view among believers (believers whose official authority source is the bible alone)

There is absolutely no REAL proof that Richard Dawkins EVER EXISTED.....NONE. End of Discussion.
that's the bottom line to watchtower theology and the watchtower has admitted as much.
unfortunately, the average jw is clueless as to his actual position before jehovah.. the below is written for active jw's.
if people understand all this, and they want to remain jw's that's fine with me.
Since JW members are taught to reject the New Covenant for themselves, they simutaneously reject the inherent forgiveness of sins that it was created for. If they believed God instead of the Watchtower they wouldn't do that. The Gospel message is fixed and cannot be moved until Christs return.
"even if we or an angel out of heaven were to declare to YOU as good news something beyond what we declared to YOU as good news, let him be accursed". - Gal. 1: 8 (NWT)
This warning makes it VERY EASY for very simple-minded people (like myself) to spot error. The bible tells me that I am "fully competent" and "COMPLETELY equipped" by just using the bible alone as my spiritual guide.
All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work. 2 Tim. 3: 16 (NWT)
Cults inflate their estimation of themselves as necessary for salvation. Sound congregations uphold the bible as the only source of authority for believers.
