They have always targeted the simpletons among us.
Proverbs 14:15
The simpleton believes every word he hears, but the prudent man looks and considers well where he is going.

because the Christian congregation had not yet been formed.
The WT has never been able to get it through their self-inflated egos that Jesus Christ doesn't need them. They have done everything they possibly can to muscle in on the authority of the King of Kings to "help" run his business.
The reality is that hundreds of thousands of locally run churches and ministries operate just fine using only the bible (and especially the NT) as their ONLY authority. -

Interesting discussion. Googling "terminal lucidity" and reading about the cases that hospice care workers relate makes for some very interesting reading. Pretty compelling when people with virtually no brain left start talking lucidly shortly before they die.
Scripture says we were made in the image of God - a tri-partite being. And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. - 1 Th. 5
From my studies from a historical Christian point of view. I think the bible supports the following view:
1. The spirit is the ethereal immaterial part of Man that was designed to connect to God and to perceive, fellowship, enjoy, and love him. "God is a Spirit"
2. The soul is the mind. It is your basest essence. Your consciousness.
3. The body is the physical animal. It is the data processor and machine for the physical realm.
In popular usage, we usually hear the parts listed as body, soul & spirit, since this is the order most people experience them.... the body in the lead position, followed by your soul (consciousness & will) followed by your spirit. Quite literally most people just follow their bodies around much of the time. ie."He's such an animal"However, scripture lists them in reverse order, (on purpose I think) with the spirit of man in the lead position followed by your mind (soul) with the impulses and desires of the body in the last position.
James, if you live by a materialist world-view, then evidence contrary to that narrow worldview will be confusing. Few people limit themselves to such a strict worldview.I had an interesting discussion with a prolific poster from Mexico many years ago on this forum. He was big into spiritism and said he regularly communicated with spirits through occultic means.. I told him that i was confused about how he could be an atheist and talk to spirits. He immediately replied that he believed the spirits were eternal, like the universe.
This was the basic tenet of the pre-flood religion that was wiped out in Noah's Day. The creation (including the spirits) were accepted as the manifestation and cause of everything. I think that people are little by little returning to a view where there is no God (to speak of anyway) but at the same time open to non-physical entities.

John 3:16 "For God loved the world so much that he gave his only begotten Son" ...Really ?
by smiddy3 infor four thousand years god never gave two hoots about the world of mankind that is suggested by john 3;16 and how do we know that ?
simply by looking at his dealings with mankind for the first 4000 years of his dealings with humans as shown by the "old testament".
1. god only dealt with a couple or a few individuals early on in the o.t.. 2.god only dealt with one family line whom he chose above anybody else .. 3.this family line the israelites became a nation whom god dealt with exclusively.. 4.to the exclusion of every other peoples on earth ,he favoured who became the israelites and he obviously had a hatred for any other people and was instrumental in trying to get the israelites to commit genocide on many occasions against these people who god had never taken an interest in .. 5.jehovah god on numerous occasions instructed the israelite`s/jews wipe out the amorite`s , the hittites ,the jebusite`s ,etc ,etc, and with the blessing of him not to feel sorry for them kill old man woman and child and do not feel sorry for them.. jehovah god actually gave the israelites /jews sanctions to commit genocide amongst these nations in the "old testament ".

God seemed to have had a mostly hands off policy unless he felt that someone or some group interfered with his plan of salvation and eventual reconciliation of everything to himself.
The bible makes it clear that any outside of a covenant (peace agreement) relationship with God are his enemies. After the Fall, man only wanted small gods, not the Infinite Creator. To actually want God, we must return to a child-like nature. We must be born again.
John 3:16 makes this possible to "whosoever" anytime, anywhere, any people group.... everyone.

Concerned Parent
by ConcernedParent ini'm writing for some advice from former jws.
my family is christian, and my 15yo daughter is "dating" a jw boy.
(the quotes are because they aren't old enough to actually go out on dates... they consider themselves bf/gf and have hung out and gone places with each other, but always with parents, family, etc.

Can you live with the down side?
If your daughter is successfully converted (and don't think it can't happen), you will likely never "see" your daughter again, at least in any meaningful way.
She will think Jesus is an angel, believe the governing body of JW's is God's sole channel of communication on earth, and adopt the hideous practice of shunning anyone questioning her beliefs.
You say you are a Christian. Then, be a good christian parent and read where the bible says to marry only in the Lord. That would include dating I'm sure. JW's are anti-christ.
Share everything with your daughter. Hopefully, it is not too late already. You did the right thing by asking former members what they think. There are many Ex-JW-Now-Christian groups on Facebook that you may want to check out as well. They are closed groups... no one can see you post there.
I was a 4th generation JW. Many in my family have had their lives destroyed by this nasty little cult. It took until age 40 to be completely mentally free. I had serious doubts since age 13.Don't do this to your daughter. You have a legal, ethical, moral and Christian duty to address this head on. Having a do-nothing attitude is the same as doing all these things to your daughter yourself. She is blinded by her emotions. You are not.
Here are some tools that I wrote that will help you to understand why JW's are not Christian. You can mostly forget about confronting JW's on their beliefs (like Jesus is not their Mediator). They will lie to your face without skipping a beat and claim just the opposite, although you can show them from their own publications that this is so. Their conscience is seared. They will do anything to protect church leadership, whom they idolize.
I will be praying for your daughter.

What a rip off! Amazing update for those of us who have been out for a while! Thanks.
I guess the Governing Body are now kicking themselves for bad mouthing the whole tithing thing for so long....No magazines, Books, CDs, DVDs, or Assemblies needed; just collect cold hard cash.
The other major US cult , the Mormons promote a 10% tithe and are far better off financially. -

I know he's fantasy, but lets go with your delusions for the conversation). Let's face it, everything he's ever touched has been a disaster.
Simon,
I see quite a mix of disasters and victories, not just one or the other. I get it that you hate God. And you call me delusional?
