Believers and their "Free Will" Dogma

one of the most interesting dogmas found among believers is the concept called free will- on the surface it starts out sounding reasonable, until you start the ask questions and listen to the explanations that are given , after awhile you realize it has no legs to stand on.

we are told by believers that god allows each person to make thier own choice and we are not robots and therefore we are able to exercise free will, the only problem is when you ask the question, what about when someone exercises thier free will and it harms someone else, why would a loving god allow someone the free will to hurt someone innocent, at that point free will sounds more like an excuse to give god a bye in terms of having to do anything- i read this posters comment and i couldn't for the life of me see any logic or reasonablness behind the concept of free will when folks get hurt like this person has-.

one of my earliest memories is of my grandfather raping me.

Two Elders Came to Visit this Afternoon

Maybe I've missed something? Are JW congregation elders hunting down xjw refugees? Nobody's called on me for almost seven years -- and then it was by mistake. My ex-wife nor myself have ever been DF'd or DA'd. Just wondering if I should expect a call.

Were You Ever Robbed At the Kingdom Hall?

okay, i don't mean by "donating" your hard earned money in the contribution boxes.

or, by having your purse or pocketbook taken.

or, by armed, masked men storming into the hall demanding everyone's money and jewelry.

There was this really theocratic-credentialed family. The father was an elder and all the grown sons were elders ( but geeks).
Yet, there was a "bad-seed" son, really bad. After he had gotten out of jail for the third or fourth time, he swore to
his obedient little JW wife -- who always got knocked-up upon his release -- and he swore to his self-righteous parents
that he was going straight-JW all the way.

Well, one Sunday at a neighboring congregation, a long-time brother and his family came home the hall to find that they had
been cleaned out. The next Sunday, another Bro & Family were praisin' Jah, and they came home to find -- they'd been robbed.
This went on for a while, before the police could connect the dots. Yeah, it was the bad-seed son. He robbed about five
Witness families while they were at their Sunday meetings.

This guy was a big time loser. When he was a teenager, he got drunk and ran over an old lady -- killing her. He was only
reproved.Then there was the time he picked up a hooker and took her to this cheap motel. She tried to run off -- and he shot
her in the ass with a shot gun. She was OK. She went to the emergency room where they picked out all the buck shot.

There's more, but I'll stop here.

yes your old pal bendrr has gone and done it this time!

i've committed myself to hosting christmas day at my place and that includes cooking a christmas dinner for at least 11 people.. i already planned on my "adopted" family coming over which would be no big deal, just snacks and a few beers.

but this year i spent thanksgiving with my older brother and his family.

Suspicious? Hmmmm. Why didn't he scream? While certainly not defending any rapist -- I wonder if this is the first time she's done this. Maybe it's her idea of foreplay? "Mama likes it rough!"

And if it goes to court, she could always claim the insanity defense. "Your honor, this lady's nuts! And she's got 'em right here to prove it!

And then, let's just hope she doesn't wind up with a hung jury!

From my reading of the article, he's not taking anyone to court. He's just appealing his expulsion.

Lambert said he plans to appeal the decision within the Scouting council within the required 60 days. He is a top-ranked Eagle Scout with 37 merit badges.

My wife left the Org. when our children were quite young -- I continued to attend meetings. She became very active in the Scouts, starting with Tiger Cubs -- and all the way through -- both my sons becoming Eagle Scouts. Yes, I was counseled more than once by the elders.

Let me say I believe the Boy Scouts is a great organization. While many of my sons's Witness peers were doing drugs and/or having the social lives of ice-cubes, my sons had a "healthy" upbringing. My older son was even the Jr. Grand Marshall for the Christmas Parade. He was also chosen for Boys State. They both were excellent athletes and students.They both gave us absolutely no problems. I really believe that much of the "well roundedness" they achieved was because of their involvement in Scouting.

Becoming an Eagle Scout requires a great deal of time and money. While the Scouts is a private organization -- they do recieve much funding from public sources like the United Way. Plus, there are dues and fund raisers to which the boys contribute.

For me the bottom line is -- why strain out the gnat and swallow the camel. If the kid's made it to the rank of an Eagle Scout -- and he happens to be an athiest -- so what? One's spiritual life is a personal matter. Just as one's sexual orientation is a personal matter.

I think the Scouts do a lot of good for boys and young men. That is until you become public about your athiest beliefs or sexual orientation. I think they would be an even better organization if they didn't sweat the small stuff. It's too bad they can't wake up and stop fighting dragons that don't exist.
