It appears to me that much of the wave of immigration can be traced back to the Syrian civil war and the West's inability/refusal to really deal with an obvious crisis. I understand how war weary the US and others are, but if there were ever a reason to go to war, it seems to me that Assad's regime deserves to be ended.
Years later, now that Russia has taken a side, there is no real hope for those people and the mass immigration will continue, no doubt fueling nationalistic sentiments.
How does western civilization claim the moral high ground, while ignoring suffering at the hands of a dictator, then turn around and deny these people refuge?
