  who has the worst exaggerated story to tell about being a dub?

  ex.. when i was a child we had to sit for fourteen hour assembly days in the hot sun without fans because they were not allowed for the other sheep.

  we had to take shorthand of every word written in the talks and review our notes for two hours after the convention was over.

  i'm not being a pervert, really.

  i was just wondering whether there was a psychological explanation for why people (women, i think) experience sex, when there's nobody physically there.. there's a lot made of this in dubdom, so i'm thnking there couldbe a connection with the dub 'culture'.. just curious.. philo (honestly, but still a male)

  i'm sure this has been brought up before, but it gives me the willies(brrrrrr!

  ) to say the...jw words.

  since i don't believe they are god's witnesses, then i can't say the words.

  I don't know if its still true, but does anyone remember a time when Dabogus Hitlisters (copyright) themselves found it hard to spit their name out too? From door-door the advice was "try to avoid saying who you are, to avoid prejudice". The idea was that people would think these callers were just concerned neighbours sharing a bible verse (which they had encountered at the kitchen table with their 2.2 children across in the suburbs.) In other words, "Oh we're just regular (pioneers) errr people". If asked who you were, you could say your name, or your secular job title, or your social security number, or your inside leg measurement, or even I'm a Christian! anything but answer the question and say "I'm a Jehovah's Witness"

  Of course there was an excellent justification for this tactic - there always is - it probably went something like: While JWs are never ashamed to speak Jehovah's name…(fast forward to conclusion)…let's keep it hushed door-door.

  Anyway, it was a bit strange back then (about 1989) standing at the KH singing We're Jehovah's Witnesses, We speak out in fearlessness, when we didn't.

  So according to you, a good by-product of the Watchtower's policies has been non-blood therapy. I do not accept this. Good may have come out of doctors developing new techniques as they operated on individual Jehovah's Witnesses. Good may have come out of the deaths of many individual Jehovah's Witnesses (even if they were too young to understand what they were really dying for) because doctors passed on new knowledge for the next time. If you are looking for somebody to congratulate for non-blood therapy then why not the medical profession? Or what about the Jehovah's Witnesses who have died through massive blood loss, why not praise them? Instead you want the Watchtower Society to be praised.

  Would you praise the WWII German government because of the good that came out of death-camp medical research? No? But surely it was that government's policy toward the Poles, Jews, gypsies, homosexuals, JWs… that facilitated the many medical advancements the Nazis made during that time. So those evil policies contributed some good after all. Is this something to be happy about? Are we supposed to thank God for the good that came from Hitler and WWII? Of course not. Neither should anyone congratulate the Watchtower Society for demanding, at pain of disfellowshipping, that JWs cannot accept blood transfusions.

  What will I do when they the no-blood policy is finally abandoned? Of course I'll be happy about that. But it won't make me praise the Watchtower Society any.

  Excuse me if, in this thread, I address this to the forum in general.

  As Comf and others have recently mentioned, a big part of the reason / You Know posts on this forum is to accrue his own sense of martyrdom. Until now this personal agenda has been fulfilled by getting beaten for defending the indefensible Watchtower. His bile and invective against 'apostates' has been accepted as 'part of the game' by most. But having overstepped the bounds of decency, and probably of law as well, he should step back: this demands an APOLOGY.

  In this thread (on page 1) he has been setting himself up for a full-scale martyrdom. He has said apostates are trying to shut him up. I for one -- and I am far from alone -- would prefer for someone of YK's obviously unchristian character to remain on this board as he does far more against his cause than for it. He has been painting this as an issue about God and JWs and 'apostates': it is nothing of the sort. Had I (or any other 'apostate') written those vile words to Tallyman, I'm sure I would have been treated similarly. But I would have apologised straightaway, especially if I was in YK's precarious situation.

  And what has this treatment been? Demands for an apology. There's nothing strange about that, nothing 'apostate' or Christian - just accepted normal behavior. / You know has been given a number of opportunities to correct his public gaff with a public apology - again nothing strange there, no sneaking about, no attempt to draw him out into saying something more actionable - and what? Nothing but weaselling and manoeuvring like his 'brothers' in power at Brooklyn.

  I was glad when he returned to posting on this site. But this episode has changed my feeling entirely. He deserves to be punished.

  And there's no martyr mileage in it. None at all.

  I'm going to be a father!

  i've been a sorry excuse of a poster lately, so i'm not really in tune with what's going on with the board, but i still know enough people here to make an announcement: foxy, my fiancee, is pregnant!.

  so it happened a couple of years before we were planning it, before we could even get married, before i've finished my postgraduate degree -- but so what?

  we're financially sturdy enough to pull it off, i'll be able to complete the degree and get a good job, and no amount of financial anxiety seems to offset the excitement i feel to be having a child.
