Faith: the intellectual suspension of disbelief. The final expression of defeated reasoning. The assured expectation of things hoped for, that one does not intend to work for. The blindfold of the subjective to the objective. philo

If the town can have a MacDonalds why not a freeking Mr Pothead, I say?
Besides I'd be proud to have it grace our Elizabethan market square with cobbled paving. It could even go outside 'Ye Olde Tea-room for Nibbles' (once frequented by Oliver Cromwell). Or if it's a pedestrian hazzard, we could put it in our 9th century cathedral, sacked and rebuilt in the Norman conquest, to remind us that the American cultural conquest is merely a favour returned.

Does anybody here play the Chinese/Japanese boardgame GO?
It has a 19*19 grid and you play the intersections with 'stones' that are placed or removed, hence there are no 'moves' just plays.

I haven't played for a couple of years. One christmas I got a chess set and my father taught me tha game , and soon regretted it! He was an extraordinarily bad player. Me? Just moderately bad. I do best in defence - boring.

'Cousin' Skimmer,
I'm sure I'm not alone in appreciating your kind comments. I love America, though I realise such a remark is stupid without saying the reasons why; but it's really not for this thread, and 'America' deserves books of praise.
Just two points: 1.the UK benefits more from US tourists than the other way around, and 2. I think too much of an American virtue is made of the WW2 intervention, when the distinct possibility of a Nazi world empire made such US intervention a necessity of self-interest.
To all UK posters: c'mon post up!

The branch coordinator wept during his convention
by Liquidizer inthe local branch office coordinator, mr. kankaanpaa, delivered the final speech in the summer convention held in tampere, the third largest city here in finland, and demanded all the ex-jw's to return back to the org.
suddenly he began to weep.
when he got his emotions under control, he instantly returned to the tradiotional wt phraseology: threats, intimitation and almost name calling (you know, that apostate stuff).

on being born imperfect. . .
by DCs Ghost ingrowing up in the borg we were always told that we are decendants of adam and eve and because they fu**ed up we have to pay the price and accept jebus as redemption for our sins.
.. the analogy that comes to mind (surprisingly) after all these years, was that of a baker with a dented pan- anything baked in that would mold to that shape.
.. i have a retort for such a train of thought, if you cut the tails off of 2 mice and let them mate, will their offspring be born with a tail?.

Did every speaker give the illustration of the "dented pan"?
Feck me sideways. Yes they did!

I find aeroplanes are second only to women in beauty. I suppose I'm gonna get flamed for this but when I really look at them both, I'm thinking 'form and function'. It gives me such a kick. I spent more time reading my grandfather's WW2 book of planes, as a pubescent, than I did my father's playboys!
Show me those sexy formulas.
