as some of you know, i am employed as master of whisky for seattle (pac nw).

i represent diageo n america's whisk(e)y portfolio.. this includes: johnnie walker, the classic malts of scotland, bushmills irish whiskey, crown royal, bulleit bourbon and rye whiskey, george dickel tennessee whisky, and bucchanan's blended scotch whisky.. my job basically involves speaking publicly about the whiskies, hosting and presenting whisk(e)y tastings and dinners, and educating bar & restaurant staff about whisk(e)y. tough gig, i know.. my mow bio & pic can be found on crown royal's website here: http://www.crownroyal.com/west-masters/breck-taylor.

I think the Society might drop its appeal over the Conti case

i've been giving some thought to the recent development in which the judge has ruled that the society is barred from completing any property transactions until the appeal is over, which could take up to two years or even more.. i've submitted an article to randy at freeminds in which i basically argue that it is no longer in the society's interests to appeal this case.

if i correctly understand the restrictions placed on the society by the judge, then the governing body has far more to lose by appealing than they could conceivably gain.. think about it.... by appealing, they buy themselves time in which to formulate a long-term strategy for dealing with the fallout of this case, but will be barred from liquidating $1 billion in property assets at a time of global economic uncertainty when their donations are dwindling.

there is also no guarantee that their appeal will be upheld.by dropping their appeal, they take a hit and pay $23.8 million but retain the freedom to see through their real estate projects; retain their financial flexibility to respond to dwindling donations, and get to pretend to their followers (as with the un scandal) that it never happened.of course, i am only saying that dropping the appeal would be the only intelligent option for the society, assuming they are aware of how legally precarious their child abuse policies are.

This is interesting, I just got off the phone from a close friend that said that his RBC indicated that all Kingdom Halls were supposed to be finished by the end of the year, and that new assembly halls were to be pushed hard. So, once they get more assembly halls built they can be sure of a steady stream of money. Perhaps, what they have learned is that they can make more money off of the assembly hall rental than the fixed assets in Brooklyn used to print.

We know that most of the AHalls are paid for by the publishers donations before completion and WT continues to charge the same rent that they would previously have had. From what I have heard is that some assembly halls are sitting on 1 M or more and eventually donate it to wt.

It will probably cost from 10-15% for a bond that they won't get back. I don't think they could legally print one for themselves.

It is great to see that bullying will be eventually punished. If this case hasn't got WT's legal department drafting a new child sexual abuse policy they better step up to the times. For this publishing company to have representatives call you personally to get your report, you would think they understood what the law says and the benefit for all victims to report these sexual crimes against children. The current policy of bullying victims, their families, and congregation elders to not report has to stop. Hopefully, this immenient threat of dimenished wealth will.

Watchtower's Billion Dollars of Property Cannot Be Sold until Outcome of Conti Appeal

30 minutes ago i just got off the phone with some important players in this case, and some things were relayed to me concerning a lot of details of the outcome of the last two days of court.

i am passing this on.

cynthia hampton, one of the main players in the candace conti case (and a close friend of 28 years), just informed me of a further, far more powerful move by the state of california against the watch tower bible and tract society of new york, inc.. by order of the superior court of the state of california - county of alameda (see documents below), until the watch tower's appeal, which won't begin until august 13th and will take up to two years to settle due to due process of law, has forbidden the watch tower to sell any more of its $1 billion in assets in the borough of brooklyn until the appeals case is finished, to assure they won't shelter their monies in the light of this most huge and devastating sexual abuse scandal ever to hit the watch tower society, and perhaps any other single-victim lawsuit.

The freezing of wt’s property indicates:

· That the court means serious business

· That the court agrees with the jury verdict

· That the court does not trust wt like a “brother” with their holdings with their conduct and defense of the accusations.

I wondered also if the idea of freezing the assets was to make them think twice about an appeal. They may end up better off paying the $28 M and moving on. If they lose in a court appeal they will have the bad publicity again.

If they do chose to appeal and have to sell their property in 2+ years, they will say that Holy Spirit directed the delaying of the selling of property so that they could get a better price. Blah, Blah

Interesting if wt was presumed to be ready to settle out of court, why are they appealing it? What is money to the organization that is God’s representative on earth?

As far as the effect on the flock, I think they will probably handle this on a circuit level in the closing comments of the assembly. The DO will say something like, “I’m sure you have heard about this verdict”, briefly explain one side and then appear to be the real victim in the case. DO concludes with “we will have to wait on Jehovah”. Pass the plate. But on second thought, they said nothing about the UN matrimony and then disfellowshipped anyone that talked about it.

One thing for sure, the WT’s Master Spin Doctor will be on overtime.

Also most of corporate America has stopped the onslaught of sexual abuse charges. They are not in the news anymore. But corporations had lawyers re-write how they handled complaints and dealt with the problems. When the corporations were in court on allowing sexual abuse, politics could get involved with corporations that were paying hefty taxes already and be lenient. However, with wt, they don’t pay any taxes, and most of their followers are in the low income bracket.

I appreciate your comments as I cannot tolerate reading the articles personally. I was 9 years old when that article came out in the 1970’s. I do remember the wt study and thought, “this is totally misinterpreted; the heart doesn't have a brain”. There were also stories about people that had heart transplants and blood transfusions that had different personalities after the surgery.

I appreciate how you have nailed their additions to the bible and using bible verse snippets (BVS) to hold up their arguments. Thanks again.

I remember one case where a brother would show up for service and always went on a call that he felt he needed to go on by himself. This went on for years. Someone followed him one day, and he was visiting another sister at her home. Later, both were DF'd.

I also heard about a CO during pioneer school that ran off with one of the regular pioneers leaving his wife. Both of these stories were hushed up quick.

At the Funny Farm, I was asked several times by a sister to ride to the meeting with her and another male bethelite not her husband. (he was working late on special project). She was very cute and we always had great conversations. I did enjoy being around her, the other guy was your typical ghost white nerdy bethelite. She and I joked and laughed the whole hour trip to and from. I started to think that we were on a date and the ghost white bethelite was our chaparone.

What was the 2012 convention drama all about?

with all of the hype surrounding sparlock ... i didn't see anyone post anything about the sunday drama at the convention.. my husband and i decided that we were only going to attend the sunday of the convention.

we drove down, but got cold feet and we ended up going out for coffee and hitting up the local shopping mall, heading over to the convention for lunch to show our faces, then taking off home for the afternoon.

it was a good day ;).

i did not see a thread on the 6-17-12 wt study article, so i thought i'd put this here.. .

this is just a thought on unquoted references that sheds a little "light" on why they are not sourced.. in paragraph 4 of the lesson it says: 'as one reference work states, it is "the sum total of the interior man.

"' it is referring to what the bible means when it speaks of the figurative heart.

I remember as a young boy attending the wt study and considering this material and thought at the time this was total Bull. Talked to my parents and they didn't seem to get it, but at 10 I did. WT are total frauds, that think they are the cutting edge of pseudo-bible/science.

Did anyone else get somewhat offended by the term "rank and file" that the WT attorney used.

i was just surprised by that term being used by jim mccabe when he said "jonathan kendrick was not a leader or a pastor, he was just a rank-and-file member.".

i thought that was only an apostate term and also what a put down to us lowly members.

we are just a rank-and-file person.

Your dad is correct that new or reappointments are questioned. However, the wording is such that more or less like "is there anything that you have done since baptism or your last appointment that you would feel required a judical committee? Lots of wiggle room on that questioned. I don't ever remember them specifically asking about child abuse.
