A big hello and thank you
by iwasblind ini just wanted to introduce myself and say a big hello to all of my mentally diseased friends.. i say friends because i have been lurking for some time so it feels like home (us lurkers are a bit scared and cautious so it takes a while).
i won't bore you with too many details, but i am a born in, currently serving as the cobe of a congregation.
my wife and i have pioneered for the last 10 years and were shaken awake by that ridiculous 15th july 2013 wt about the generation and 1914.. my wife who is much smarter than me has questioned for years.

JW 'urban legends'
by Steve Lowry ini was thinking about some of the old jw urban legends that we grew up with and believed in as jws.
most of the ones i remember revolved around stories about demons, and jws being "attacked" when they would do something wrong.
some of these legends scared the crap outta me when i was little.

How do I get the COBE to pay back the money he and his ripped off from my ex-wife, he's the guy who claims he make's Pedophiles Holy by YHWH's power!
by PhilsWager2 inthe cobe of the local kingdom hall never paid my ex-wife for the work done because they promised they would use "trade" to reimburse close to $5000 worth of work.
as you can imagine nobody here would like him because he believes all the pedophiles can change their ways after the child sex offenders have proved their humility by bowing before the judicial committees.
this is how honest jehovah's witnesses are, they changed her work from a 1200 sq.

This is a little fuzzy to me, but if your wife has performed work on a house and have not been paid, you can file a Mechanic's Lien" in most States. It doesn't matter if it was for trade or not, they (the owner's) have not paid. It shouldn't cost any money to do file a mechanic's lien, lawyers are not needed and most contractors are used to the procedure. It may take awhile to recoup your money. An owner of property can ignore those pesky mechanic's liens until they try to sell, then it will come up when the title is researched. You would get your money when the property is closed.

New arrangement from C.O.
by Doctor Who ini think most on here will be familiar with the caller hook up system that many congregations use.
visit about 2 months ago.
during our servant and elders meeting he was talking up the importance of meeting attendance and how we "gods spirit appointed men" must take the lead on making every meeting.

I thought there was a thread on this a few years ago. It changed around 2009?, 2010. From what I got the WTBTS reasoning was that if people didn't come to the kingdom hall personally they couldn't get donations. -

Did You Feel Bad For the JW Dishwasher-Cook Who Quit His Job (May JW Broadcasting)To Avoid Attending Later Meetings? He Pioneered on Welfare or Unemployment!
by RoyalFlushPhil indid you watch the story about the jw who was working as a burger boy at some diner and his boss wanted him to work on sunday during the time of his meeting?
this faithful jw decided he could not attend a later meeting (6 pm sunday meeting) and soon quit his job(or got fired to attend his sunday meeting) so he could attend the sunday meeting he was assigned to.
i think he was on welfare because this story states he won't work on sunday morning because that's when his meeting is!

I have known brothers that threatened to bring the "religious card" into play if their employer wanted them to work hours they personally didn't want to. It wasn't because they had issues with missing the meetings and they did not flip burgers for a living. They just didn't want to work those hours.
I've worked on power outages with Seventh Day Adventist and they say they won't work Saturday, and it is accepted.
The man described in WT video must have just quit. Yep, no unemployment if you quit.

Seems very easy to leave now, why do people hesitate?
by Xanthippe inwhen i see people on here saying they've looked on several sites before this one, jwfacts, jwstruggle, youtube, etc., and then they make friends here, sometimes meeting up with ex-jws, it seems incredibly easy compared to leaving in 1989. .
no internet, no amazon to find ex-jw books, no facebook to link up with ex-jw groups.
still people find it so hard to leave.

It appears that apathy is a growing problem within the congregations. I make the causative connection with people in the process of "waking up". It is my opinion that the first thing people stop doing when waking up is donating money. They will keep up the appearances of going through the motions for years, but stop donating.
As noted before there are many reasons that people must stay in. As several older friends have said to me, they have "too much invested" to leave. It can be a huge loss in relationships and even financially to leave with the shunning and hatred that is reinforced regularly at meetings, conventions etc. about the mentally diseased apostates or ones who quit believing.
Recently, I went back to my home town and visited with a very select few. The subject of what I was doing in the organization never came up. They didn't ask, and I didn't tell. I don't think they can afford to ask. We were happy to visit one another and enjoy the time together.

Texan Billboard
by Pubsinger indidn't the judge rule in the candace conte trial that wts did not have a responsibility to notify the congregation only to protect them?
i think this is hugely missing the point.
other churches and organisations have strict policies to protect members from sex offenders but they do not 'notify' in the sense that i think these people want.. so the wt response to that particular question will be 'no.

JW elders can leak every other "confidential" subject matter that is considered within so-called "confidential" meetings among the elders, including a boy that seeks an elders help concerning the MA word and ;the involved elders will continue to bring it up years later if the young man is ever considered a servant or an elder. An elder will report when someone brings up his recommendation, "Well, you know a few years ago he had a problem with the MA word." Another elder, "Could a couple of brothers go and ask him if he has self-control now and has conquered the MA word?"
Why is it so hard for these mentally deficient people? Can they reason, that there are times that they could discreetly let the congregation servant body know, and then pull their shunning crap on the accused. I swear, just as they do with the minor incidences like a teenage boy or girl that walked down the hall at school holding hands with a "worldly" boy or girl? and it is reported to the elders then the teenager. The guilty teenager is then shunned by every family in the congregation for years? But NOOOOOOO, "We can't tell anyone about a pediphile, it's confidential". They are just idiots. As Jesus said, they strain out the gnat and gulp down the camel.
Maybe a lawyer needs to establish that there really does not exist any confidentiality what-so-ever or even pastoral confidentiality. When everything else minor is revealed by gossip within the congregation except the dangerous stuff then doesn't the body hold a responsibility? You either have confidentiality or you don't.
