I guess the pioneers who are already limited about secular work are even more limited when Pioneer school rolls around.

Please Share one of your Favourite Quotations
by cofty inhave you ever come across words that resonate with you?
it doesn't have to be a great gem of wisdom, just something that is meaningful to you.. please share, and if you want to, tell us why it's meaningful to you.. here is something that made me nod when i first read it.... .
"fortunate are those who have learned to see, in the wild things of nature, something to be loved, something to be wondered at, something to be reverenced, for they have found the key to a never-failing source of recreation and refreshment".

Shunning for inactive ones?
by frogonmytoe ini visited my sister in a small town in the midst of the country, the town has a population of 3,000 and there's about 70 in the cong.
anyway, there was a local needs talk a few months ago about associating with family members who didn't live under your roof and no longer went to meetings.
one family of an elder dad and three sons (one an elder too, the others have stopped going) and a daughter (still going but married a 'worldly') are quite prominent and one half of a typical congregational feud.

It could be that they are not considered "exemplary". Which can be a big and wide net used anyway you want. Considering some of the other recent topics, it seems to be a trend of increased encouragement/enforcement of shunning inactive ones and possibly pursuing them to disfellowship them. As I said in another topic, it is getting pathetic.

Peace and Security - When?
by rhodesboy inmy interpretation of gb (governing body) theology has illuminated a fate for mankind in the near future.
i invite you to read the following extracts and my analysis thereafter- theologists only please.. 1 thessalonians 5:3.
''whenever it is that they are saying: "peace and security!

I guess if Rhodes scholar is correct we should all run back to the kingdom hall and get in good standing so that when the GB makes an announcement to take some action that doesn't seem reasonable by human thinking we can follow their so far blind guidance to the letter. LOL

Some Things Would-be Shunners Need To Think About
by metatron inso, you ( mr. or ms. hyperloyal witness) decide to succumb to cult peer pressure and shun me, your relative or friend.. need a ride to the airport?
tough sh*t, pal.. does your car need a 'jump' at 7am?
call triple a.. worried about dying alone?
-
JakeM2012
Thanks Metatron, you are 100% correct. I have been having a progressive conversation with my wife about our families. Family on my side: we have an aging Mother that I expect that the Bethelite Brother and the "Sponge off Mother" Brother who is living in her house and unemployed will eventually call to insist that I help monetarily. I expect perhaps a few catchup calls to soften things up and then they will go for my bank account.
After reading the experience of Confusedandalone and this thread, there is not much discussion. If my mom would ever return my calls, things might be different. If there were any type of botched familial relationship with my mother things might be different. But she chooses to tow the party line of JW's even encouraging the body of elders to pursue different benign family members for apostasy that have been inactive for over 25 years.
Interesting that the basic bible principles of love for a stranger on a street are not even applied in a witness family if some chose not to continue drinking the cool aid.

Dazed, that's great news. Thanks for keeping us updated. My wife just finished nursing school, passing the NCLEX test for state licensing. She is waiting on HR to finish their background check for her first job. Keep your grades up on your prerequisites it counts when trying to get into nursing school. Best wishes.

I'm not going back...finally
by lostinthought init has been several years since my awakening.
since then i have stopped pioneering, stopped doing temp work at bethel, stopped field service (at the most, i went out a few hours a month for the last couple of months), my meeting attendance has been around 50 percent or so.
i have decided not to go back.
-
JakeM2012
Hi Lostinthought, thanks for sharing. At first you will cope with guilty feelings, thinking perhaps that your selfish, spiritually weak, etc. You can think yourself through these moments.
Advise on what to say? I could never "stretch" the truth even if it was for theocratic warfare reasons. Truthful but simple explanations or excuses are the best, and we don't "owe" anyone a full explanation Or at least a full explanation is not recommended if you are trying to stay under the radar.
What are your reasons for not going back?

Satan must have directed me here
by Miss.Fit ini was telling my jw friend about the condi law suit.
the first thing she asked was how did i even hear about it because it was news to her .
( i was 't expecting that reaction.
-
JakeM2012
Miss Fit, you commented, " But in order for Jeovah to protect me I need his spirit which is found at the meetings." You have the JW thinking down!
I sent a link to a sister and she replied that "one body of elders did not know that he was a pedophile and messed up,... don't give up on God's organization run by imperfect men."
I've wanted to respond (but need to continue under the radar,)about how it is consistent behavior on the organizations part to treat child abuse allegations in the congregation like they are simply "sins" with the scriptural two witnesses, as opposed to the "crime" that pedophilia is.
Dan Sidlick gave a talk years ago that said, "If you are sick, go see a doctor, if you have legal problems then contact a lawyer" etc, basically saying the congregation can't do everything. So why is it when an allegation of child abuse is brought before the congregation it is not standard proceedure regardless of whether the individual states require reporting or not, just report it and let the civil authorities take care of it? I cannot explain why they are so resistant to contacting police, other than the obvious.
