Here is an experience I had because I was totally ignorant of how things worked at the time. A sister owned an old livable house she was raising her 5 children in. She got married and together new husband and wife decided to take down the old house and put in a new manufactured house. Somehow, the foundation of the new house wasn't done right. In a few years the husband takes up with another and leaves the woman. She is stuck with a house payment and a house that is sliding off the foundation, down the hill. This woman had been JW for years. The local brothers knew of her plight. I fussed at the elders and told them how they would get volunteers and go for miles and days to help disaster areas, while they didn't care about the sisters home. This did prompt them to look into the situation, but it was too late. The sister lost her faulty home to the finance company. ( and the land she had owned with the old house.) It seems to me, that people will goes for miles out of their way to put on the charity face, while those in need close to home are ignored.

JW profit from disasters
by enoughisenough insome time back i questioned about jw making money from doing relief work for disasters.
i found this story on reddit and also noted some of the replies.
it makes me wonder how many would have left their own jobs and paid their way, giving free labor and some supplying free materials if they had know what was going on behind the scenes.

On the thought that some think it "fraud"...Is it disclosed to the homeower upfront that they are expected to fork over their insurance benefit? If a group of volunteers came to my house to repair something, would I think I should pay them as they are volunteering out of " Christian" love? A group of church men came and repaired my Mom's porch for FREE! Some churches do this for elderly ones. After flooding, we went and worked at "friend's" homes for free-did they send an insurance ck to the JW-I don't know. Isn't it a sort of fraud to ask people to go to work as free volunteers for days and weeks without telling them: "you are going to work for free, but we are collecting a big check " Do the elders know in advance the JW are collecting checks? I have heard annoucements made asking for skilled help to go and rebuild, but I never heard , your free labor will brings 1000's into the JW coffers. Here is another thought I just had: a few years back, after a big storm, the annoucement was if you had an RV you could let a now homeless JW live in that you could make it avalable to them. Does anyone know if insurance cks were collected for what insurances allocate for housing ? Just a thought back to the noted article: I find it misleading to the public when they say donated funds are used to help with disasters, when actually they make money on the disaster. During the Lahaina disaster, other churches had relief set up for people...I didn't see any JW doing that work in any clips I watched.

JW website has article which I paraphrased on my FB: ( copied/pasted my comment ) On official JW site, there is a topic : do Jehovah's Witnesses Assist with disaster relief? The short article tells about how they get organized . Local branch office learns about it and rank and file from other areas donate time ( free labor ) and resources. to help out. Under subtitle Funding,it tells us donations sent to the branch offices pay for it....work is done by unpaid volunteers so the donations can go directly for relief efforts. You can look that up for yourselves. I would copy /paste the article but I don't want copy right issues. Now The official article that I have mentioned doesn't tell you anything about how they collect the homeowners insurances--no, they say the relief comes from donations and volunteers- There was a time you could send the JW a donation marked for disaster relief, but they told the rank and file to stop that and just donate to the world wide work.

Is there “new light” on 1914?

if they decide to ditch 1914, all they have to do is quote Matt 24:48 saying there is a wicked slave and it was/is the wicked slave that promoted 1914...because they throw in spurious scripture or two the r/f will eat it all up. If I recall correctly the 1975 debaucle was blamed on apostates inside for leading on the r/f...so they cleaned house. I friend of mine reminds me of how Bethel cleaned house in the 1980's . Most on here likely know they kicked out Ray Franz and some others who were bringing GB to attention of wrong dating/doctrine. So all the old timers will become the "wicked slave" and the faithful slave can make up new light for the r/f... Some who have been around for years and years may not buy it and want to get out, but the new recruits won't be allowed to see the history and will be none the wiser. If I had looked at the history 50 years ago, I would have been out sooner. ( I wish I had read Ray's books sooner-but you know that isn't allowed .)

JW Chrisians in name only-what do you think
by enoughisenough injw claim they are the true religion and they mention the love they have among themselves as proof.
i have been watching a youtube creator who had some thoughts on the subject, bringing out jw were not really christian, based upon their actions.
he made a pretty good case.

TxNVSue2023, you have roundly condemned "churches" and yet you feel safe to be reinstated into the JW! They are no different at a base level as to goodness in deeds, actions, works. They are part of false religion.

Where is Tony?
by Athanasius inon february 22, 2023, anthony morris iii was officially removed from the governing body of jehovah's witnesses.
a few months later it was revealed that the watchtower bought him a house in lumberton, north carolina.. however, and correct me if i am wrong, since leaving the gb nobody has reported seeing tony attending jw meetings or participating in field service.
in fact nobody has reported seeing him anywhere, not even at a local liquor store.

Sue writes she can't talk to a couselor because it would be a bad impression on the org; and that Sue is why I didn't write the book I wanted to write 6 years ago. But now, when I get compelled to write the book, I will. The fact that we know what we would have to say would throw shade on the org should tell us that there is something wrong with the whole picture. We have been conditioned to keep our mouths shut and suffer. Sue go get that counseling!

"only safe place is in the org/congregation" ...May God help you...you have jumped into the frying pan. That is a place of people who love the lie or they would have to get out! If you are befriended at all, it will be conditional. You don't have to worry about service. They just want you to declare you have talked to someone so the congregation will have to fork over x amount of $ per month for you being a witness. ( congregations have to pay the org so much per month per publisher in addition to other donations to world wide work. ) I am being real here. I get that you are feeling isolated and depressed and I am sympathetic to that, but your solution is not the right solution. Jesus said it's better to give than to receive. You would be better off finding a way to volunteer to help other people..( and spreading Lies from the JW isn't it ) that would get you out of your house so you wouldn't feel isolated. I was in for 50 years...the puppets are wicked because those pulling the strings are wicked. You should do some home work...look through the many threads on this forum of the harm that the org has done to people. Look at the ever changing doctrines ( because they were lies to start with and yet they blame it all on God calling it new light. You say you love righteousness and justice-then you are in the wrong place. Where is the righteousness and justice when people read something in the Bible and learn the WT has published lies? They can't question what was published or they are kicked out. Don't think so-read the many true examples on this forum. Watch the exjw youtube videos. Watcher wrote the point is to be loved by Jehovah...You don't have to be a JW for God to love you. It's not where you worship. It is how. Tell me about isolation-I am alone almost all the time. But I don't care to go back to the falsehood to have false friends who will throw me under the bus. been there, done that.
I fear for you because in time you will come to see I have written you the truth. I am forewarning you so that when that happens you won't feel even more depressed. You have to look to Jesus and not to the manmade organization of charlatons for peace of heart and mind. The Governing Body are frauds and yet they want obedience like they are the voice of Jesus. I wish you the best...

NotFormer, as to your question of choosing the name Bethel, maybe it's one of those hidden in plain site clues those in secret orders use.
