I haven’t posted in a while, but I wanted to share. So my brother-in-law was DFd a couple of weeks ago. His mom & dad are hardcore JWs so they are full shunning, but told him to hurry back. His wife is wanting him to come back too. The issue is he was DFd for a JW violation, not apostasy or anything, so they don’t know that he is awake and has no intention on going back. He has his brother (who is my husband) & myself to talk to, but he’s really struggling.
He said he knew the shunning was going to happen but wasn’t prepared for how it would make him feel. I hate that cult 😡

1 brother (since 2016), and he is the only one that I care about. My mom passed in 2007 and my dad and 2 other siblings are out. The other family shunning me is 1 Aunt and 1 cousin. But we weren’t close anyway so it doesn’t bother me.

How Would You Help A JW. Recognize They Do Not Have The Truth?
by minimus inevery witness says they are “ in the truth”.
that expression implies that what they say is the “truth “.
how could you help a witness understand that they clearly do not have “the truth “?.

I agree @minimus. Social reasons. One of my siblings - the only one of us still in - is well aware that it’s not “the truth”, but cannot live without those connections in the org . We are actively shunned because of it.

You might have been a JW if...

If you had to go to the library working on a “project” while your classmates celebrates a birthday or a holiday, you might have been a JW 😒

What a beautiful holiday you had! Congrats to you. My holiday was great as well. My hubby’s family are all JW and my family is in Pennsylvania. Since holiday season is my hubby’s busiest time of year, we don’t travel there. So it’s just me, hubby and our 2 little ones during the holidays - which we really love! Seeing the kids excited faces on Christmas morning, watching them open their gifts...simple things we were robbed of...never gets old. It’s the best feeling EVER 😊. It was a lovely family day and we enjoyed spending the time together making memories with our babies.

Service experiences
by former2free ini know what you may be thinking by the title but bear with me.
have you ever reflected on past service experiences and think wow if only i had listened to a householder?
two things come to my mind of personal experience.

Mine was fairly recent, around 2014. It was summer time and I was out in service with my 2 little ones on a Saturday. We went to this house and the lady met us at the end of the driveway to say she wasn’t interested. It was my partner’s door, but the lady looked at me, down at my toddler and the the baby in the stroller and said that they shouldn’t be out there. They should be at home watching cartoons and having fun. I gave the typical snobby jw remark that it was important for them to be out in the ministry and play when they go home. Now I’m like, what the hell was I saying? lol! She was 100% right.?

My brother-in-law is mentally out!
by Kathy1978 inso....i’m going to rewind for a second.
one of my brother-in-laws came over one evening late in 2016, november i think, just to hang out.
we hadn’t seen him in a while and this is before we told anyone in his family we were out.

I agree Giordano, and I told him that as well because that is exactly what he was doing - starting debates with her and that’s a bad idea. So he backed off of that and is just keeping it to himself for now.

Thanks ToesUp! I think the main reason he came around to figuring things out for himself is we didn’t push anything on him, we just explained why we didn’t believe it anymore. We are not trying to wake people up, the information is out there if you are brave enough to look. That’s also why we have a relationship with his still in family as well. We just don’t talk about it. If they still believe and it works for them, so be it. But we couldn’t do it anymore.

So....I’m going to rewind for a second. One of my brother-in-laws came over one evening late in 2016, November I think, just to hang out. We hadn’t seen him in a while and this is before we told anyone in his family we were out. But my husband was rocking a beard at the time and he kept giving him funny looks.
Anyway, he finally asked him about what the brothers were saying about it and after a moment or two, my hubby and I looked at each other and he told him we don’t go anymore. My hubby went on to tell him all we had uncovered about “the truth”. He was shocked and said “my brother is an apostate!” Lol But he was cool, just shocked that he didn’t believe it anymore.
Fast forward to a few months ago and my hubby tells me that his brother doesn’t believe it anymore. He said that night at our place, when we told him everything he started to pay more attention to what was being said at the hall and started to research and he finally decided none of it is true! But his wife is a super JW, so he’s trying to figure out his full exit strategy. I’m so happy for him. He’s almost 50, so he wants to exit soon, start living his life. 👏🏿👏🏿
