I have little faith in those numbers.

A brother was baptised in Luxembourg. I saw it with my own eyes!

The reporting numbers for that year was a big fat zero baptisms for Luxembourg

Why is this I asked? I was told the CO is from Germany and the circuit is mostly in Germany (as Luxembourg is too small) so they guessed the baptism was counted in Germany

Being an accountant these little things annoy me. I asked could a letter be written to Bethel. And the website updates articles all the time, it's an easy fix. I wasn't asking for thousands of books to be recalled and reprinted, just fix a website. Could be done in minutes, easy. I got a nod of the head from the elder and sure, sure we will look at it. Hah, I am sure nothing was done

But accountants of the world unite! As if one figure is wrong then what else is wrong?

On the current migrant crisis

thousands of migrants have come to england this year, already beating last year's total.. some may have fled syria and other war-torn countries; others are economic migrants.. let me try to get my head around this phenomenon: migrants are relatively safe in france and other countries.

they then leave the relative safety of continental europe and risk their lives and that of their children by crossing the english channel in rubber dinghies.

there's just no fixing stupid, is there .

Are you a Brit looking to retire to Spain and use the Spanish health service for your elderly needs? Call yourself an expat, definitely not a migrant. Don’t forget to demand egg n’chips and watery larger in the local bar. And be like Gareth Bale and somehow not learn Spanish in 6 years. Complain about immigrants in the UK who cannot speak English

You are also entitled to moan about Polish shops in the UK while you shop in British shops in Spain

Some people are having a laugh with avoiding a migrant label. It’s not a dirty word. The only expats are those who are placed there by a company. If your employer didn’t send you then you are a migrant and no shame in that

The same newspaper articles and anger existed in the 1960’s and 70’s about Indians moving the UK from Uganda

I doubt the Patel family were warmly welcomed and now their hard-line daughter will pull up the ladder forgetting her own background

i do not support crt.

but having said that i find it disturbing that schools are teaching children whatever they want to teach.

if parents object or even teachers refuse to teach something, anything that violates their conscience or morals, i don’t think government or schools have the right to push these people to accept it.

hi everyone, hope all are well :).

just wondering, with all these zoom meetings and cancelled assemblies, just how the financial contribution system works in 2020?.

i obviously am wondering if it will have a huge impact on the wt org.. can someone kindly summarise how contributions are managed nowadays, both officially and anecdotally in kh's.. i was last attending around 2004, where there were x2 contribution boxes, the world wide work and kh fund.

Donations are up maybe 20% but then meeting attendance is up around the same so it’s not a huge swing

Expenses are largely the same which I do not not understand. The branch paid for the zoom licences. There is no heating or light in the locked up KH so where is that money going?

The congregation doesn’t keep this surplus. There used to be an arrangement in our congregation that if the account balance went over a set amount the rest went to the Branch. Worked fine and that existed for years.

A few months ago there was a open vote that an amount per publisher would be donated each month. No matter if donations are up or down the branch gets a set amount. Like paying a mortgage lol

what I didn’t like here was the raise hand voting system on zoom for all to see. If you have concerns how do you raise them? Should have been secret ballot. Passed 0 against, 1 abstain, everyone else for it. I found it high pressure

It’s possible to do secret polls in zoom, I’ve seen it done but the elders choose not to do this

Today I learned what a tie chain was. Honestly never heard of these or seen one in my life.

In the USA, why so often is the vote for President just a vote against someone?

in my lifetime, (i will include kennedy even though i was probably breast-feeding at the time), but it seems that there have been relatively few presidents that we vote "for.

" my list would be kennedy, reagan, clinton and obama.

i'm not talking about their politics here but who generally got voted for, instead of simply voting against.. any thoughts?.

How old is old?

having a conversation with a pimi elder and i asked him how he deals with the fact that he never expected to get old.

i get the feeling that some dubs still have the original generation explanation hard-wired, even though they claim to accept the new version.

so my question is, how old do you have to be to be considered old?

First meeting I ever attended an elders wife (who is a better collector of news and information then the police!! ) said everyone over 35 is going downhill and life will get more difficult

I felt a little deflated, I’m a little over and still hit the gym

Canadians and Europeans, what do you think of your national health care ?

we have been in a battle over health care for so long here in the us regarding public, private, gov't subsidized, obama care, medicare for all, and just about every permutation of the above.. we hear the horror stories here that people wait 20 years for a check-up (ok, bit of an exaggeration), but you get the point.

one side tells us that canadians flock across the border when they are sick and need to see a doctor.

the other side says that is simply not the case.. so tell us, if you live under one of the government systems would you replace it?

Our health service gets nothing but criticism but it my experience its actually quite good.

There is a public & private system side by side. You can pay for private insurance and it can cost from maybe 600 euro upwards per year for a single person. That is bare bones, say 1000 euro per year (1,100 USD) for a decent plan. Cover your GP visits and helps you skip queues to meet consultants.

Once you get admitted into hospital the staff and service is very good. If you are a public patient you pay 75 euro per night to a maximum of 750 euro per year. If you have private insurance that might be covered, depends on your policy.

There are many problems.

The frontline staff are overworked and underpaid. The whole service is a bottomless pit of bureaucrats and paper pushers who swallow up billions of taxpayers money and threaten union action if ever asked to modernise.
Consultants work both publicly and privately. Suppose you are told 5 month waiting list as you are public. Now tell the secretary you have insurance and certainly Sir we can see you next week.....
Privatising certain functions like sending lab testing abroad to save money had disastrous results leading to missed results and people dying. Why not do in-house? Mistakes happen but this was a scandal.
We need some system to deal with drunks and drug users who sure need casualty assistance but they intimidate others waiting. Ive heard of "drunk tanks" but I'm not sure if that is the solution.
Choke point at casualty getting admitted and seen to. Once you are in the system is quite good.
No problem getting an appointment to see a GP. I believe the British have an issue here
Our mental health services are abysmal and we have a huge suicide issue and this is always the first place to get cutbacks as well it's not headline grabbing like "new cancer clinic opened" and politicians don't win votes over it.

What is good

Nobody goes bankrupt over healthcare costs while happens in the USA.
Our maternity system is world class
