I would like to meet cofty, have a couple of beers with him and a few hours to chat. Almost everything he is writing here reflects my own opinion.
at the last elders school i heard from a few different attendees that the average age was easily 60+.
there will be a lot of elders gone within the next 10yrs.
there is nowhere near enough young brothers to replace these ageing elders.
More than the fact, that the amount of elders is shrinking, the fact, that so many ex- or still active elders are here on the board is a sign , that the system of the JW is maybe not about to collapse, but bleeding out more and more.
my mother-in-law has a strange obsession with calendars, and orders the society's calendar each year.
this year's calendar is especially weird.
it features images depicting future events - in particular, the society's vision of the new world order.. i've taken the opportunity to scan some of the images for you all to check out.. please note - there are captions for each of the images, but i don't have the english language version of the calendar so i'd rather just quote the scripture used so as not to reveal which country i'm in.. .
Looking at the resurrection picture, I've noticed that:
1. a woman is obviously in charge of checking if the resurrected ones come in the right order (sisters, great privileges are waiting for you!!!)
2. looking at the schedule the woman has, it seems that there will be printers in the new order.
It`s so sad that none of the dubs will realize how thoroughly they get pranked by the WT.
for those of you who used to be jws, or who are active, if the society was in charge of the earth, how many people do you think you would have seen stoned during your lifetimes?
i realize some elders can be zealous about their work, but if they'd actually had administrative authority to have kh members stoned to death, how many elders did you know who would have been zealous enough to really order them?.
did you know any elders who would have ordered stonings, even if the condemned people had been willing to repent?.
Another thought: The JW are not just a cult, with their adherence to the OT they are also a very archaic religion. I grew up as a witness and even before I could read I knew a lot of stories about murder, rape and genocide. I remember on kingdom-song my grandma use to sing while bringing me to bed: (now from my memory and translating it from german, don't know if it is correct) "If thousands are falling at your right, ten thousands at your left..."
The JW have a very distorted view on life. They thrive with expectation of billions to be killed, just to be in paradise themselves. They like the stories about the egypts killed in the red sea or how samson killed the philistines and read them to their kids. They put a mass-murderer (David) as an example.
So, why should you expect them not killing apostates, if the circumstances would permit and the bible would tell them to do so?

Eva Luna - Since this is a hypothetical question, you can only guess. Nobody knows for sure, how he or others would act under certain circumstances.
But what you can tell, is the attitude behind a certain act. Regarding this there is no difference between stoning and shunning. It is all about to "cut off the sinner from the people".

Of course they would. They let their own children die when it comes to the blood-issue. Throwing rocks on people you don't like anyway because they are weak or apostates is much easier.
were you a sought after associate?.
were you often invisible?.
did other witnesses view you as "exemplary"?.
Born in, third generation. My father was an elder since the late fiftees, bethelite and SP. Always lived near german bethel. So my family is well known in the leading circles of the german branch. German branch overseer is a good friend of my parents (and in the same cong.) My three brothers are still elders. I was an elder for almost ten years, twenty years of full- timme service (bethel, pioneer at home and overseas).
One of the last things my dad said to me (before he quit any contact): "There are hundreds of brothers and sisters waiting for you to come back." Maybe a bit exaggerated, but in deed I had a very good standing and was liked by many people.
But that is worth nothing, because the same people now are spreading lies about me and entertain themselves with wild speculations about what I'm doing and how Satan has got my on his fork.
..... you to stop attending ?
injustices ?
disagree with the teachings ?
Memorial 2007. Left right after the prayer and never set a foot in a KH again. Didn't know TTATT at this time, just felt that I don't want to do this anymore.
now that you realise how idiotic some of the jw beliefs are/were, do you feel ashamed of how gullible you were to believe them?.
if anything my past as an adult jw makes me understand how easily manipulated people are by the people and environment around them.
and that even intelligent people can be influenced beyond what is rational..
Angry about my own foolishness, ashamed of what I did as a functionary of the WT while "serving" as an elder.
