Anybody remember those brothers that would harass, and hound the elders into making them, finally, appoint him as an elder himself?
by Dunedain inlol, for some reason, i was thinking back to all the many "characters" that were often so prevalent in kingdom halls back in the day.
they are, i am sure, still there now, but fortunately i haven't been in a kh for like 20 years.. anyway, i remembered this one brother, who was dying to be made an elder.
he could not believe he wasn't an elder yet, after sooo many years.

That's one thing I never desired in any way whatsoever. I was an MS when I started my fade and eventual ouster. I hated going to the meetings I was required to go to so the thought of more meetings, more responsibilities, shepherding calls, counseling married couples while my own marriage was on the rocks, more parts to prepare for no thanks. I was appointed along with another couple of guys we were the up and comers about to take the next step together but I took a step down instead of up. -

Another generation....
by joey jojo init has been 21 years since the 1995 article that pretty much buried the idea of the '1914 generation'.. remember those guys?
the ones born in 1914 that would still be alive when the end of the system arrived.. i'm glad i'm old enough to remember going from door to door, preaching this belief.
the reason i say that is because i have a lot of 'still in' jw friends and family.

I was in high school in the mid 80's and I remember vividly the teaching about this generation the one which were alive in 1914 would by no means pass away. I don't know if it's been mentioned here but does anyone remember the added kicker to that teaching? Not only the ones who were alive but you actually had to be old enough to know what was going on in the world. There was a lot of speculation as to exactly how old that would be but many people thought anywhere from 7-10 and the society certainly didn't discourage that thinking. So the generation born between 1904 and 1907 or 112 years ago apparently is still going strong. Oh wait they never said that that's right -

How many witnesses are there in China? How many of those are going to make it through? Of course we all know
everyone who's currently a witness is not going to make it. I mean one month of inactivity say you miss 3 weeks of
meetings in a row, the big A comes during that time you're a goner. Anyway how many people have died in that
country over the years? Hundreds of millions? Over a billion? It's going to be quite a task for the 50,000 or so (if
that...I really don't have any idea but I'm thinking it's not that many) to witness to all those people.
Maybe Jehovah will allow the internet to stay intact in order to reach and teach all the resurrected ones.
Perhaps there will still be electricity and televisions...not 70 inch plasmas of course don't want the "friends" to be
too materialistic but maybe small TV's for the sole purpose of explaining rules and regulations and setting up a
mandatory meeting scheddule

Disturbing/Puzzling Skit at JW Function Last Night Plus Odd Choice of Music
by Cadellin inso i attended a fairly large jw gathering last night with my active, elder husband.
it was a good-by party for a former special pioneer couple who have been demoted to reg pios and have now moved to a larger city to find work.
anyway, there was music and skits.

"Christian" gatherings must have changed a lot since the days when I was in several years ago. The ones I used to attend used to always end up with people taking turns telling stories about someone's house being possessed by the demons. The stories I used to hear when I was a kid were traumatizing. Imagine a 8 or 9 year old kid going home and going to bed scared s*&tless as every odd noise or shadow would keep me awake all night shivering. Ahh the good old days -

So I have been hooked on the OJ miniseries very compelling. I happened to miss episode 8 forgot to set my DVR. I had been searching for days for episode 8 because with past episodes they have been showing them at least a half dozen times at odd hours however not true with episode 8. So I go to my phone and google the episode maybe it's been downloaded somewhere so can watch it. Lo and behold it's on youtube I get ready to watch it but I think about the small screen and the fact that I'll be using data then I consider using my ipad but same thing concerning data.
I remember I have a smart TV I have Netflix on it and I know I can surf the web on tv so I say let me see if I can find youtube on this thing. Well there are a whole host of Networks you can download which has movies and old tv shows what have you. Most of those you have to pay for, then there's a category of free channels like youtube, Pandora, tune in radio and get this......JW.Org. I said What????!!!! You have got to be f*&*ing kidding me. But there it was plain as day. I started to download it just to see what mind controlling crap they had on it but I said no been there done that and I have much more fun things I could be doing with my time like getting a root canal or a colonoscopy

I grew up in the life and I can truly say without equivocation that it was indeed the worst
life ever. Think about this as a child/teenager what were the most important things in a normal child's life? Let's see Christmas of course-nope, your birthday-nope, having friends from school to pal around with-nope, discovering the opposite sex talking on the phone going on dates experiencing things instead of marrying the first person you've ever gone out on a date with-nope, college- HELL NO! Saturday morning cartoons, sleeping in on the weekend-nope. Having your friends see you walking down the street in a suit carrying a briefcase knocking on doors-yes. Being considered normal-no. Being threatened every day with shunning, being destroyed, being possessed by demons-yes. Being told that you have to tell on your friends who might be slightly on the edge or else-yes, looking warily at a fellow witness as you casually talk to a girl in school for fear he or she may run and tell the elders-yes. It was pure hell I can vividly remember asking myself how in the hell did my mother allow herself to be talked into this s&*t??!!!

Good news to report: Congregations merged because lack of attendance, publishers & field service
by Khaleesi inso it's official, i am happy to report that we merged with another congregation having the same problem.
why is it good news???
because people are either waking up, fading or just not buying into this organization any longer or walking away.... i think many young ones are just not buying into it as much, i see many in the congregation i go to very depressed and some i know personally going thru major depression especially the young "sisters" in their early 20s.... .

Of course the "society" will spin in it in a way that will continue to keep the rank and file under their control. It's the "sifting" being done before our very eyes. What a joy to be serving in this exciting time yada yada, must stay vigilant yada yada, proof that the end is closer than we realize yada yada -

Pictures in the Watchtower
by Sour Grapes inafter sitting through last sunday's watchtower i got so sick of seeing the bobbing/nodding heads when talking about the pictures.
they act like god himself took the picture.
there must have been 10 comments about the group in service and the one brother was looking at his phone with a smile, which is a dead give away that he was reading something interesting.. what got me was how the older brother in the posed picture had a bible in his hand had a stern look on his face looking at the young brother.

Do they still publish pictures of Amageddon? Lightning bolts striking people, fire, people running and screaming, the
earth swallowing people? Those pictures used to give me nightmares

Wow I am having a great time reading these posts. Sounds like some of you are still
attending the weekly meetings. I just have one question. Why are you not busy reading
the magazines as soon as they hit your mailbox? It's Thursday some of you have
meetings tonight shouldn't you be researching every assignment in case someone is
sick and you might be called on to give an impromptu talk? Then of course is Sunday's
Watchtower study make sure you study and underline the answers. Make the lines very
conspicuous so that any person looking at your magazine from several feet away can
tell that you have studied. I've always found that a yellow highlighter usually worked
best. I'm sorry I'm kidding if you are on this site but still attend meetings you have my
sympathy however congrats on still having a relationship with your family. Do what you
have to do you will get no grief from me other than a little good natured
teasing.
Question: Have you ever opened your magazine for the watchtower study
and all the pages are brand spanking new, clean everyone can tell this is the first
time you looked at it? You look over and get a look of disapproval from some righteous
person on your row? I had to read the Watchtower one Sunday and I hadn't studied
after the meeting an elder approached me and told me that he couldn't help but notice
that I didn't study my Watchtower. I told him to kiss my ass. I said that to myself of
course. LOL
