Hi I am Caspians sister and this is my first day here.
by Lainey inhello this is my first post and i wanted to introduce myself so here goes.. my name is lainey, and i have not been to the meetings for about 4 years now.. i am 28 and work as a doctor in a big city university hospital as a sho.. also for my sins, i am cassies little sis, and i am staying with him for a little while, as i am signed off sick for the next month with a stress related disorder.. after the death of my older bro and my dad within the past few months, i started suffering from terrible nightmares, most of them connected in some way to my witness upbringing.. me and cassie have talked for some length and he suggested that i spend some time having a look on this site and meeting others who have had similar issues to face in life.. i hope you are all are better listeners than cassie, who tends to fall asleep when i am in the middle of talking to him.

What the women need is birth control.
Put aside personal views on abortion pro or con and try to imagine being a poor woman in that country finding out you are pregnant and knowing your baby, if born a girl, has a good chance of living for 12 or 15 years only to be burned to death or doused with acid and thrown away like garbage. How do you make a choice?

Note on Sati and Child-marriage
Sati, Child-marriage, Ghunghat, etc were largely caused by the arbitrary tryannical rule of the Sultans of Delhi. The temperament of theseSultans was a result of socio-cultural reasons. They had imbibed these their tryannical traits alongwith their religion from the Arabs who display traits like fanaticism and short-temperedness in their extreme. The reasons why these traits should exist among those Arabs who originate from the Saudi Arabian Peninsula are to be found in their harsh natural environment.
Saudi Arabia, the birth-place of Islam is devoid of fertile plains and river valleys which are congenial to the development of a settled civilized life. This was responsible for the atrophy of residents of the Arabian peninsula into barbarism, and their exclusion from civilization. The same cannot be said of the people of Mesopotamia, Assyria and Egypt who today consider themselves to be Arabs but were the founders of great riparian civilizations of the ancient world. The absence of a civilized way of life among the Arabs (from the Arabian peninsula) nourished the fanatical attitude which later became a characteristic of Islamic thought and way of life.
This attitude was transmitted to other people who were converted to Islam. Added to this was Islam's monotheistic character because of which Mohammedans regarded all other religions in exclusion from their own. This singularistic and exclusive character of monotheistic Islam precluded any possibility of assimilation into itself of other deities or forms of worship. And whenever it had the support or the force of arms, its fanatical and intolerant nature found brutal expression in the annihilative repression it unleashed whenever it came in contact with another religion or culture.
Such was the cultural lineage of the Sultans of Delhi. It made itself evident in the forcible conversion of peoples of other faiths to Islam at the point of the sword, destruction of places of worship belonging to other faiths, the imposition of Jazia tax on non-muslims and other policies whose objective was to stamp out all other religions and to Islamize the country.

one thing which kept me trapped as a jw far longer than necessary was the fear that if i left and no longer believed, my life would be empty of meaning and futile and ultimately end in a meaningless death.
i could not find any meaning in the world apart from the view jws had imposed upon me... all other ways seemed to lead only to meaninglessness.. but once out and even without a belief in any god[s] i still found my life meaningful but it took several years before i understood my new source of meaning and now see it as the only valid source... i will explain this after i see some of your ideas as i do not wish to bias your answers in advance.

Although there may be some similiarity to the patriarchal Hebrew dowry, remember that the primary religion of India is HINDU and not Christian. I don't think we can pin this practice of aborting girls on the Bible

Sorry gopher I didn't mean to confuse you. If I am trying to "pin" this on anything I would pin it on the purest form of sub-human ignorance that was obviously developed over centuries apon centuries by religious finatics.
I am aware they are mostly non-christian. I shouldn't have used the term "biblical" to discribe a period of time, It just seemed to "fit"

It is interesting to read that even since the rise of women in the political arena, still nothing is being done about it. It appears that the women in so called power either don't give a rats ars about the poor women being burned since it doesn't effect them anyway, or they perhaps don't do anything in order to "keep" the positions they have. Either way they suck.

could anyone please tell me in what year / publication the society decided that it was the faithful and discreet slave.. i am aware that between 1896 and 1927 the fds was considered to be a single individual and not a class of persons so i believe that it must have been sometime after 1927 when they first made the claim.. thanks to anyone who can come up with the information.. link.

60 minutes journalist interview disclosed that the birth of a female in India is a day of morning for the family. There are some doctors performing as many as 7 or more abortions per patient over a period of time. They didn?t say how much time but I doubt they were talking about years. I just began watching it at the tail end and missed the complete investigation.
If this is the average citizen view point, which is what 60 minutes has suggested and the statistics back it up, then pretty soon their will only be a few single JW females to choose from. How many JWs are there in India?

I doesn't bother me. I've lived with gay people and still do on occasion have gay roomies, both male and female. It's not a big deal. I'm not gay or bi but if my friends are that's their business. And I also don't like it when anybody makes out in front of me regardless of who they're making out with. I don't do it in front of people it is just rude. And imature.
