aborting all the baby girls

60 minutes tonight, special on aborting all the baby girls in India, it has become an epidemic so severe they have placed a ban on tests that predetermine the Childs sex.

Now women are going underground to find out the sex of the child and abort it if it is a female.

This has caused an imbalance in the population and men are having a difficult time finding wives.

The worst thing happening is young females are being sold into slavery just to get rid of them.

It all centers on old biblical beliefs/having a dowry and GREED.

60 minutes journalist interview disclosed that the birth of a female in India is a day of morning for the family. There are some doctors performing as many as 7 or more abortions per patient over a period of time. They didn?t say how much time but I doubt they were talking about years. I just began watching it at the tail end and missed the complete investigation.

If this is the average citizen view point, which is what 60 minutes has suggested and the statistics back it up, then pretty soon their will only be a few single JW females to choose from. How many JWs are there in India?

I didn't see 60 minutes tonight but I know what you're talking about. It is really sad. Here's an article from the Telegraph (mirror: http://www.rense.com/general42/shgt.htm ) that I just read a few days ago. It's about young men that are kidnapped in India and forced into "shotgun" weddings so that the bride's family doesn't have to pay a dowry. It also goes into the aborted females and:

Dowry demands often continue well into the marriage. When the bride refuses or is simply unable to meet them she is brutally treated, at times even forced into an inflammable nylon sari, doused with paraffin and set on fire. Husbands often claim the victims caught fire while cooking.
In the early 1980s such deaths became so commonplace that anti-dowry activists forced the government to change the law. Today, any such death by burning within seven years of marriage is deemed unnatural and the husband and his parents are charged with murder.
More than 12,612 dowry deaths were recorded across India in 1998 and 1999, the largest number in Bihar and neighbouring Uttar Pradesh.
But anti-dowry activists and non-governmental organisations said the true number was much higher and estimate that a woman is burned to death every 10 minutes across India.

It's funny how the pro abortion people clam it is a choice about a woman's body, but when it comes down to it, it's always about not having a baby at a bad time or a undesirable type of baby.

i've never herd of a woman having an abortion because she didn't wont to get fat, but i'm sure it happens from time to time.

Are these woman choosing not to get fat or are they choosing to kill there darters?

Once i was pro abortion but then i was also pro infanticide because i couldn't see a difference between sticking a clamp into a baby's soft spot in the birth canal (partial berth abortion) or waiting until it was all the way out. (infanticide) now i understand there is no difference.

'Bride Burning' alive and well in India

Police say every two hours a woman is killed over dowry

    From Correspondent Gayle Young

NEW DEHLI, India (CNN) -- For years, victims of so-called "bride burnings" have been crowding a unit of a New Delhi hospital -- young women whose husbands and in-laws have set them on fire in disputes over dowries.

In 1986 Mooni's in-laws burned her to death when her parents refused to give them more money. Her mother, Appa Shahjihan, says police laughed when she went to seek justice for her daughter. "I was humiliated," she remembers, crying.

So Shahjihan started a shelter and support office for victims of dowry disputes. Police say every two hours a woman in India is killed over a dowry -- and dozens of others are harassed or beaten. Women like Sudesh, whose husband's family tried to burn her.

Burning is common because in-laws can then claim it was a cooking accident. "They had a can of oil and were pushing me toward the oven fire," recalls Sudesh. "But I managed to run away and scream so the neighbors came running."

Dowries are as old as India, but in recent years the stakes have risen. The bride's family is expected to hand over cash and gifts such as televisions, cars and refrigerators.

"There are so many consumer goods available," explains feminist author Mrinal Pande, "and there is a possibility that if you torture the bride as a sort of hostage then there is a chance that her father or brother will try and meet your demands."

With most marriages arranged, there is little love lost between families fighting over the best deal possible. Police say between 1987 and 1991 the number of dowry deaths skyrocketed by 170 percent. Since then, women's groups and new protection laws have managed to stem the tide -- but not turn it.

Young women throughout India are still being harassed for dowries, and an estimated 5,000 a year murdered. All for an ancient custom, one that has clashed with a new form of greed.

It's mostly like what happens in China. A male child is able to bring honor to the family name while a female child is only grown up to be wed with someone. Consequently, everyone wants a male child. When a child is found to be a female, most of the time they are thrown into a well or killed in some way or another. This is causing a imbalanced male to female ratio and I think that within 10 or 20 years women are going to be scarce in China. I am just summarizing something I read a while ago, the facts may be wrong, but the idea is the same.

Ummm who here is "pro-abortion"? Willythink you need to rephrase what you said please. Noone is proabortion and this thread, as far as I can tell, is not about abortion as per Western ideas of such. It's about the atrocities happening in third world countries!

As for the rest of this crap...

This has also been going on for many many decades in China, too. It's not just limited to that part of the world, eh!

    Sick.

Well I'm one of those anti abortion freaks but this is above an beyond horrible. I had no idea this was going on. It would be bad enough if they were putting all girls up for adoption, but killing them just because?

    What losers.
