Why does God allow people to develop 'forbidden' special powers?
by SM62 insomething i have been wondering about lately.. whether you believe in god or not, are a christian or some other religion or no religion at all, i'd be interested in your opinion.. according to those who believe in the bible including most christians, god condemns the use of 'special' powers/abilities.
for example, esp, tarot, astrology, consulting a medium, spells etc.
however, if god created us, did he not give us the ability to develop and use such powers?

Does anyone remember scientists, of some sort, declaring that the locomotive would never work because the human body could not withstand speeds over 35 miles per hour?
I wish I knew where to look that up.
Point is it?s amazing how far science has come in such a short time. It might not be so far away that scientists see evidence of things they can?t see now for what ever reason. ?Trees?forests?...perhaps

I've heard many different reasons but the one I heard most while a JW was because we, as imperfect humans, are too stupid to know the difference between a special power and a trick imposed on us by a demon. In a nutshell that is. We would be gambling with our faith in a sense by not putting our complete trust in god but instead looking to the stars or the dead for answers because we do not yet have the maturity to understand such powers and keep them in there proper place. Just like that fruit tree .

The Passion of The Christ
by CaptainSchmideo inanybody been following the development and release of this movie?.
an 'r' rated jesus film, one that portrays a no holds barred depiction of the the beatings, the whippings, and the execution.
all dialogue is in the 'original' languages (at first it wasn't supposed to be subtitled, but mel gibson finally caved in on this point.

Of course the jewish community is yelliing, b/c it puts them in very bad light. They say it is very graphic.
I wonder if they (as in those who are complaining about it) would still be complaining if it was simply a movie about the society as a whole and how they exicuted people PERIOD.

no one can live up the the lifestyle the WTS promotes as ideal.
Hi Wednesday!
Isn't it amazing how encumbered the ideal lifestyle has been... created by the society?
Totally, live in fear of just about everything but us (the GB)

My opinions were just that, opinions. I did not mean to offend by saying what I did.
littlewitch, I was not offended at all by your comments but when I asked the question "What exactly IS a well grounded religous person?", I was being serious. I was trying to picture in my mind what you or anyone might consider a "well grounded" religous person.
I can tell you what thousands of people would consider well grounded, based on TV ratings on Sunday mornings, however, I personally think some of the biggest quacks are among those "well grounded" folks with thier pink hair and limos.

I love you - do I?
by donkey inrather than participate in the thread asking if people really loved jehovah i have a different question to ask but it requires a contextual setting prior to being considered.
many posters here at one time loved jehovah and we know our concept of jehovah was that which was created as a result of wt teachings - only to find out that the teachings had no factual basis.
we can also observe people all over the world who worship idols or nature or other gods such as allah or vishnu etc and we know that these people are in love with a god who is not true - if their beliefs about who god is are untrue then they are logically in love with a concept as opposed to a real person or spirit being.

You may ...or may not, find this interesting reading.
Yet philosophies of the past have all taught of a "self" in man; sages have studied the constitution of our inner nature
with scientific exactitude. It would seem foolhardy to ignore their testimony as to the existence of the self and the
nature of the complex vehicles it uses for expression during its evolution on this earth. The very universality of such
teachings, their intellectual profundity, and their ability to account for all the phenomena of human experience, both
normal and abnormal, warrant their serious study; and it is one of the aims of theosophists today to bring this knowledge
of our inner nature to the attention of the modern world.Theosophy is, indeed, like a key to a code. Without the key a code is unintelligible, though one may make any number of
observations about it and pile up a vast amount of data concerning it. The data may be absolutely correct, but they do
not answer the question: "What does the code mean?" The modern psychologist has gathered a vast amount of such observable
data about human beings. The key to the code is missing; but we notice that some of the more penetrating scientists are
turning to the sacred books of the East to find the missing key.It is naturally in the field of the abnormal human states that psychology and psychism meet; but the former confines
itself mainly to research and experiment connected with such obvious states as dreams, hypnosis, insanity, hysteria,
and double personality, leaving untouched a far wider range of unexplained "powers." Perhaps this is just as well for
the time being. It is worthy of note that practical psychology brings out a whole new set of problems to be solved which are totally
unsuspected in the theoretical systems. In the treatment of abnormal states the practitioner often proves himself much
bigger than his theory. This is surely because he brings to bear upon his actual problems his natural love of his
fellowmen and his keen desire to bring relief to those who suffer. The spontaneous qualities of his spiritual nature
cannot be denied and are bound to exert an influence upon those with whom he labors. On the other hand, he can ill afford
to ignore any sources of knowledge in regard to psychic powers, for the simple reason that he is using them himself to
some extent. His good intentions will not save his patient from the possibly disastrous effects of a power used in
ignorance.http://www.theosociety.org/pasadena/gdpmanu/psychic/psyc-1.htm#psychlogy

Did You Ever REALLY Love Jehovah?
by minimus inwitnesses are taught that they must love their neighbor and jehovah god.
when persons fade away or leave abruptly or get disfellowshipped, you often hear this statement:"well, they obviously never really loved jehovah anyway"........looking back, can you say that at one time you really did love jehovah?

It would depend on what day it is and if I'm on the rag or not.
For the most part, I would say yes. HOWEVER, not due to the religion. I never felt like I was ever a Jehovah?s Witness. The connection I felt had little to do with the WTS, regardless of what others may conclude on their own.
When I see children hurting, I get angry.

I was reading through all the responses and when I came across this one by littlewitch: " What chance do they have of getting a well-grounded, religiously strong person involved? Nil."
I had to read it twice for some reason.
littlewitch' what exactly IS a well-grounded, religiously strong person
