this was in the metro section on friday here in dc, so after i read this article i could not beleive that out of all the congos here in dc md va no one made arrangements to help this old 78 yr old jw out as the article says she had dwindling options, why there are over 20,000 jw here in washington dc area .
the article is interesting in that she got booted out of 2 jw homes and no one else picked up the slack.

Do you think that Armaggeddon is "near" or many, many years away?
by booker-t ini am 40 years old and i have been hearing the same old song by jw's "armaggeddon is around the corner" since i was a toddler.
it has to come to their minds that how long are they going to keep saying that armaggeddon is "near" or "around the corner"?
or they eventually going to quit believing in this fantasy and look at reality?

I was always taught that it would happen when most believers stopped believing it would happen. So when we no longer expect it WHAMO! I don't know what I believe anymore. The bible has been written in such a way we can apply almost anything that happens to some kind of prophecy. Or we can just re-write it till it fits.

I’ve been surfing through some links starting with jwfacts and on to watchman and other sites. I came across this one while gathering info on the subject. I found this one interesting in a different perspective now. It started me thinking/wondering what the governing body’s state of mind might be like if at least ½ of them are suffering from schizophrenia? I’m serious, no joke! http://www.watchman.org/jw/anointd1.htmReed, a long time Watchtower watcher, notes the reason for the change is obvious.
He explained that of the 8,850 remaining Anointed, over half are women and therefore ineligible and of the remaining men, most are in their late seventies or older.
Reed summarized the Watchtower's dilemma stating: "The organization faces turning over leadership to men who are eligible but incompetent, or else changing the rules of eligibility to permit competent younger men to assume control" (Ibid).
Based on the response from those who posted to my thread, it seems that there may just be quite a few anointed that actually do suffer from mental illness. I’m not even going to suggest that those who profess to be anointed are mentally ill, or those who do suffer from mental illness that profess to be anointed are not anointed. But how would those sitting on the governing body interview potential new members if ½ the applicants are mentally ill and ½ the anointed governing body are also mentally ill?
I would like to be a fly on the wall during some of those interviews!
Do any of the current members of the governing body have history of paranoia or odd behavior? …OK I know Rutherford was a bootlegger and Russell had a thing for pyramids but what about the present members or those that presided during the last few decades?

Mary It sounds more like she could becoming schizophrenic.
I have a strong feeling she is schizophrenic. I’ve done a lot of reading on the subject and spoke to several people, doctors, social workers etc., about her symptoms and history. No one can diagnose someone over the phone or via through someone else obviously but all the signs point to schizophrenia.
there comes a time where you or a sibling will have to step in and force the issue When someone can no longer make rational decisions for themselves, someone has to step in
I agree totally…when using my head only. I also agree with what jwfacts posted. It’s a difficult thing to bounce around. What to do.
I never imagined being in this situation. It looks a lot different from this side then it does from where I’m use to, observing someone else in this situation.
jwfacts it is probably those that think they will live forever on earth that are really the ones with mental problems.

I have. I’ve been advised to have her declared incompetent. I am having a very difficult time with that one. I don’t know if it’s the best thing to do for her at her age.

Oh, if you ever can get her to agree to an MRI that would tell you if she has had any mini strokes.

Her older brother is due to visit this month, perhaps he can convince her to have some tests done. The chances are not good though.

By the way, if your mother has any money in an account, be watchful, because she is now very vulnerable for someone to steal from her.
Thats something I hadn't thought of. My mom is tooooo suspicious of everyone to trust anyone with access to her money. She gards it like it's ...money

kid-A I know of 2-3 JWs that were suddenly "annointed"
With my mom it's kind of a "chicken or the egg" thing. Which came first.
Thinking back over the years I can remember times when I thought my mom was...overreacting a bit.

Her apartment had a state-of-the-art alarm system and as many locks as a fortress. Still, people were somehow breaking in to mess with her goods and spy on her.

The overseers’ wife called me to tell me that my mother was tying strings around the doorknobs to keep whomever out as well as tying strings around the gas tank because people were stealing her gas while out in service. Thank god she isn’t driving anymore.
As for being health conscience, she is obsessed with doctoring herself. She spent years studying herbs and has a cure for everything. She will be the first one to tell you she has some sort of illness even though a doctor won’t agree with her diagnosis. She self medicates.
