I walked/jogged 10 miles everyday for several years but haven't walked as much as a mile or two in the past 2 years. I moved a couple of years ago and now live in the mountains. Walking is a lot different around here.

Has anybody successfully quit using caffeine altogether?
by DanTheMan inmy anxiety and stress levels are really bad lately.
i think i'd be doing myself a favor to quit caffeine, as it has become a real catch-22 for me, where i need it to stay awake, but it causes me to lose sleep, so i need more of it to stay awake, etc.. i've learned through experience that i'm very sensitive to any sort of chemical substance that affects neurotransmitter flow, and, given my general propensity towards depression/anxiety/paranoia/add, i think that at least one thing i could do to give me a calmer, more stable neurotransmitter mix would be to eliminate caffeine.
i've tried to reduce before, and i've found that i just start making excuses to have a little more, a little more, until i'm right back where i started.. so, i'm just wondering if anybody else has had a similar experience where they felt the need to not just reduce but eliminate caffeine altogether, and if so, how did it go, did it help, how long has it been, etc.

Did you perhaps mean the earthly father?

Are Jehovah's Witnesses communists?
by ozziepost inthat was the title of a tract i recall distributing in the 1950s.
it responded to the demonising of so many people in the mccarthy period.
the answer seemed obvious at the time - no, dubs are anything but communists.

Look closely at who is where and what they're doing
Hiking in the wilderness will be a lot different without mosquito’s and little girls will be able to wear their Sunday go to meetin’ shoes because there will no longer be blisters.
But seriously, insert rolling eyes
I recall many conversations over the years, when I was still attending meetings, about how our lives would unfold in the new system. I remember one sister in particular that figured out we would each have at least 1 acre to ourselves due to the small number that would survive Armageddon and the rate of reproduction before the thousand year reign was over and people stopped reproducing because the earth was finally filled. I have no idea how she came up with that. But I did notice there were many that had their own ideas of what life would be like, including myself. It's all imagination.

Do we need to experience the bad to know the good??
by lowden ininspired by a few posts from the 'suffering' thread, i pose the above question.. is it really necessary to experience or even know of evil deeds in order to appreciate good, benevolence, peace.. certain peoples and indigenous tribes have lived in peace and probably still do with little, if any, disturbance and malevolence within their communities.
they don't need evil to appreciate good, surely.. one current headline story over here in britain is of a 7yr old girl murdered, shot in the back by a drug dealer because she'd seen his face.
he's just got 40yrs in jail.

Sheesh...that question could go in so many directions. How do we define what's good and what's bad? Obviously a little girl being shot for any reason is bad. No, I don't need to get shot in order to recognize that.
I've been told so many times, while growing up, that this life we live...in this "wicked system of things" should be teaching me/us to appreciate what God has in store for us in the future, as though it's all about some kind of lesson we are meant to learn.
whatever

I'd like to introduce myself
by Alpheta ini'm "alpheta".
i've been reading here for the past few weeks, but have visited from time to time over several years.. short history, i started studying in 1993, was baptised in 1996, and succinctly and with much planning disassociated myself in october, 2003.. i don't believe i have any lasting psychological damage or issues, but i was curious about the state of the wtbts (or whatever they go by these days), and i found your site and a lot of information that, i have to say, i found shocking at first like - oh my goddess, they really did that?
- kind of thing.. anyway, nice to have read your posts and i really enjoy the sense of community here.

Needing help with some scriptures
by ppunk inhi all, thanks for opening this thread.
i have heard this is the place to post for bona fide jw related discussion, so i have a challenge for all of you who are interested.
i am looking at sending an email to my mom who has been shunning me.
-
plmkrzy
I know my mom has been shunning me because of her religious beliefs (eg she was told to shun me),
Hi and welcome ppunk.
I am curious about one thing. Were you ever a jw? The reason I ask is because your post left me with the impression that you are looking for info about "her" religion. And if that is the case then why have they asked her to shun you?Narkissos If you quote the Bible you will probably set her back on the religious, i.e. defensive mode.
I have to totally agree with that, from lots of experience. If you have been dfpd or reproved then anything you try to prove using scriptures will probably be viewed as demonic influence and if you have never been a jw then you will be viewed as simply ignorant about scripture interpretation. plm
