it's never been explained exactly how they will stop terrorists.. my personal opinion is that they are just another government play to control people, another form of tax (you can bet it will cost us to get them) and i have my doubts as to whether the government could run a large scale it project of that magnitude (given it's track record) and whether the estimated 3bn won't end up many years late and at least 10bn over-budget.

aint that the truth I'm still recovering from the foreclosure of a 300,000 mortgage I never knew I had. It has cost me lots to fight it and finally get it removed from my record. Your Social Security card is your identity card. That is the number given to you at birth and stays with you your entire life. You can not change the number. Not legally.

as i read grenpalmtrees post to those of us that support president bush and the current iraqi war, i was reminded that i needed to do something concrete to show me support for this situation.
so i contacted camp pendleton (a marine base which has lost a number of troops in iraq), and spoke with an officer, and asked what i could do to support the families of those that have paid the ultimate price in this war.
he gave me a list of accounts, and i have since donated money to those accounts.
I opposed the war because I was afraid of what it would turn into, and it almost has. HOWEVER, I do not oppose finishing the job that was started. I support the troops. My nephew is a Marine and just returned home a couple of months ago. He might go back. I worried about him everyday he was away.
The fact is if the US doesn't take the lead in doing something about terrorizim nobody else will and we will all pay the price later.

but I know loads of people who have never been JWs who who range from highly uncomfortable to outraged about the idea.
That's where I have the disadvantage regarding this issue. The only people I know who are upset about the cards are on this board. So I guess it was only natural for me to connect it.
I think it's something that can't be avoided good or bad. Who knows, in the next few decades we might have to use our personal ID cards for everything, including money. .

Ok, a serious question for those of you who are extremely concerned about the cards.
I wonder how much of that worry can be attributed to years of crap told to us as jws?
Such as, we would all be marked by the government at the beginning of or during the great T?
Do they still preach that or have they given up and found new light on the subject?
Isn?t it possible the conditioning is causing "more" then normal uneasiness about carrying cards?
for me it was when i was living in mexico and i got a job as a waiter out of sheer boardom.
the pay was lousy, the work was hard, the boss was an asshole, and at the end of the week i was told that i was not good enough to be a waiter and i was fired.
thank god!.
