Where i live we have both full blooded Aborigines and mixed blood Aborigines. They call white men who sleep with Aboriginal women 'Jocks'. They call the children produced 'milkies'. They are still accepted by the Community and considered Aboriginal by the full bloods. Some kids here have light brown skin and blonde hair. There have been people here who are whiter than me and claim they are Aboriginal. You only need a drop of Aboriginal blood to be considered Aboriginal. BTW there are some full blood Aboriginal men who have a white wife. The Community i live in is the most primative and backward of all the Communities. We have a lot here who have been in jail, most of them ( not all) are very nice, likable people. But unfortunately common sense is very lacking here, hence why some end up in jail.

What do you think? Prison guards man-handle a young native Australian.
by fulltimestudent inthe desert areas of central australia, the so-called 'red heart' of the nation, still has a significant population of original australians.
and many of them seem to have difficulty with the law.*.
that's a very brief and simplistic introduction to this video of prison guards in the alice springs jail, manhandling a young boy.

Things are changing here with Welfare. Now they have to work for the dole or get cut off. We've had about 70 people cut off because of not turning up to work for the dole. One of our indigenious employees decided she didn't want to work anymore, so she resigned. She was back 3 days later asking for her job back. When she tried to get Centrelink payments they told her she will have to wait 8 weeks as she left a perfectly good job for no reason other than laziness. ( not that she turned up today). Prior to the change they immediately got dole payments when they left their jobs. The kids and young people here desperately need indigenious role models, but they are hard to find in the communities. Most of their days consist of eating junk food and hanging around. The school in the community tries to get kids with potential into boarding schools for high school in Melbourne, Adelaide, Darwin to expand their horizons. There are some really bright kids here considering how remote we are. On the upside for me being remote nearest JW is about 600ks away!

l live and work in a very remote Aborigional Community, it's a real eye opener. Most Australians are clueless about what happens in the communities. There is some employment opportunities here but trying to get them to turn up to work can be difficult, hence why white people work in these communities. They just disappear during the day, not turn up for days or months on end. Makes your job more difficult, as you have to do their work as well as your own. You can end up hardly functioning yourself, completely exhausted. They call Welfare 'sit down money'. They can be very lazy, have no respect for the hard work you put in helping them. A very thankless job. They can be incredibly rude, and yes they do spit, anywhere and everywhere. Kids neglected, not taught boundaries, most parents don't care about kids education. (Some do but rare). It's a very tough gig being here, sometimes i just want to pack up and leave, some days you've just had enough. Enough whining for now lunch nearly over, time to go back to work and re - enter the twighlight zone.

Forgot to add, i'm not DFed, i just decided not to go to another meeting. That was about 10 years ago. Fortunately for me my now ex husband wasn't a JW. Nobody at the cong actually noticed i stopped attenting. No phone calls, no visits. Most were wrapped up in their own lives.

l don't know what's up either. My parents who shunned me over many years, have started talking to me. Don't know why, maybe to do with all the changes & the overlapping generation thing or because they're aging. They even asked me & my partner ( who l'm not married to) to stay with them for a few days when i go on holidays in Feb. I'm confused. Dad was a fanatical JW. He said to ring my Nan who is a JW, when i mentioned about her not supposed to talk to me, he said " don't worry about that". Looks like the Org's hold is slipping. When i talk to them we don't mention religion. Mum obviously couldn't help herself & mentioned the international assembly, how many went, how well behaved everyone was, how they got praise from the train station in Melbourne for good behaviour. l managed a few grunts, then changed subject

Got 4 tattoos, the 4th recently. A humming bird on my leg. Found out it means freedom from a hard life. Certainly had that growing up in a dysfunctional JW family. I also have a rose & butterfly on my back and a rose around my arm. Probably get more at some stage. Have a belly ring, had a nose ring too, but got blood noses when i blew my nose & got hooked on towel after shower so got rid of that. Feels good everytime i get a tatt, distances me from the JWs even more!

Dad was both physically & mentally abusive. I know he feels alot of guilt over the things he said & done. I told him i forgave him, he actually cried. My mum was in tears when i told her i don't blame her as she was beating herself up over not protecting me & standing up to dad when he was being abusive. Most of dads side of the family are mentally ill & dysfunctional. Dad was ill befor he came into the "truth". But i believe the religion fed his illness. I have told them i believe it's a cult & i will never go back. They said they respected that position. My daughter told me nanna & pop were preaching to them. I saw red & told my parents they are not to talk to them about the religion at all. My daughter was about 18 at the time, not interested but i wanted to be sure that she stays not interested. Given they know my stance i am confused why they decided to talk to me, but i'm taking it slowly. Haven't asked them why they have changed their minds about talking to me, just taking it at face value at the moment. I don't think its about money, i think they're lonely as they have no relationship with their adult children. My dad tried to top himself recently ( he's tried on a few occassions), he said he was going write a txt to my brother & sister asking if they will have contact with him. Personally l didn't think that good idea as he just got out of the psch ward. If they said no, it might send him off on another psychotic episode.
