BUM WITNESSES
by The Searcher incan anyone save me the stress of listening to the self-appointed faithful & discreet slave for 3 hours, and give a clue as to roughly at what point in the proceedings was the derogatory term 'bum witnesses used, and by whom?
i'd really love to extract that comment and send it to a weakening witness, to highlight the judgmental arrogance and name-calling being displayed.. many thanks in advance folks!.

I assumed that the term used and put in quotes by the blogger "bum" was his own euphemism summing up the thought relayed by the speaker.

The NWT is almost readable now (some random thoughts)
by slimboyfat ini guess there will be lots of interesting little changes, but perhaps the most significant change in the new version of the nwt is overall readability.
there were many, many passages of the old nwt that were virtually incomprehensible unless you had read some watchtower commentary explaining what on earth they were trying to say.
take 1 cor 7:36 in the old nwt for example:.

verse 16 keeps undeserved kindness while other translations tend to use the same word (grace) thoughout.
Heaven forbid (or Governing Body forbid) JW's start running around saying "grace" instead of "undeserved kindness", it would make them sound too much like other Christian faiths and the R&F might start thinking they are good enough to have a relationship with God without them!

NI NWT John 1:1 still says "a god" ... but ....
by mindnumbed inthere is now a footnote that offers the alternative "was divine" ... which is the preferred rendering of jason d. beduhn ph.d. as stated in his book truth in translation.

AGM - did anyone miss this?
by Anony Mous inaccording to the live blog: god's will to be completed by the end of the millennium.
very casually said by louche (;-)).
i think this is one of those things that is supposed to rile up the r&f.

He was simply saying it would take the whole of the thousand year reign for Jesus to sort out the earth, which is what JWs have taught for decades already.
Thousand years = millenial reign - millenium
He's simlply referring to fulfillment of 1 Cor 15:28 (see Watchtower 9/15/2012 Peace for a Thousand Years - and Beyond!)

The new translation of John 17:3 seems like a major shift.
by paul from cleveland inup until now, everlasting life was dependent on "taking in knowledge".
it was a perfect fit for a publishing house to interpret that scripture that way.
if we didn't keep up with the endless stream of publications from the watchtower our salvation would be in jeopardy.

Freddy Franz did whatever he could to make the JW's peculiar and different from everyone else. GB 2.0 seems to be trying to bring the religion more mainstream with Mormon type PR and softened approaches in public edition magazines ... and now a Bible that in some ways is more in line with other translations. Did they change John 1:1 to Jesus being "divine" instead of "a god"?

... and 1 Corinthians 13:4 ... Jehovah's chariot has caught up with translations done by Satan's system by using the term patient instead of long-suffering
