christmas puddings
by tornapart inin our last ca it was said from the platform that the gb has said we shouldn't buy food that is only produced at certain times of the year.
although not specified i imagine they meant turkeys, christmas puddings, easter eggs, hot cross buns etc.
the reasoning that it's attached specifically to pagan festivals.

Bethel - the house of the canaanite god El
by mP inhow ironic, that in hebrew the word for god is actually the name of a canaanite god el.
ive recently been facinated by the etymology of word, particularly those in the bible.
anyone can change the meanings or definition of words like we have witnessed with the generation, but the word itself cannot be changed.

Why are you stuck with Allah. Muslim religion is not an old religion and the moon crescent with the star was borrowed from other cultures (Christians/- Greeks, etc).
Cleopatra's and Mark Antony's twins:

The PIE words for sun and moon were *soh 2 wl and *méh 1 ns, and there were also derivatives from *kand "shine" and *lewk "bright, light". The Proto-Semitic words for sun and moon were *šamš- (whence Akkadian šamšu, Hebrew šemeš, and Arabic šamš) and *warihh- (whence Akkadian warhhu and Hebrew yâréach); the Arabic word for "moon" (qámar) is from a different root. The Proto-Semitic pantheon included, separate from *Ilu (the sky god), the sun goddess *Šamšu and the moon god *Warihhu. The Akkadian name for the moon god was Sîn. None of these use "el" or "la" as names for the sun and moon.
Semetic root: l.v.h. or l.a.h. or l.v.h.a. = shine, lighten, see carefully and clearly.
Derivatives:
NOTE: [λυκο'φως* (= twilight ), λυκαυγε'ς, λυκα'βας] DO NOT COME FROM THE SAME ROOT AS ERRONEOUSLY MENTIONED IN DICTIONARIES.
* λυκο'φως IS NOT λυκ + φως. λυκ= light φως=light. light + light ?! Even a 6th grader could understand this!
Latin: lux, luceo, luna, lumen
Goth: liuh-ath
German: lioth, light
Slavic: luca, luci
Sanskrit: ruk, roke
NOTE: I had to use apostr. for accents as accented Greek letters do not appear correct (at least in Firefox which I am using).

Apostates defeated once again.....
by nananana inbefore the mentally diseased apostates could get their hands on and dissect any information regarding the convention that hadn't been released to regular publishers/elders...the society released the district program on the official site completely and utterly slaying every single demented apostate on the face of the earth.
now have fun dissecting it kiddos, while we big kids get a taste of solid, spiritual meet this summer.
continue drowning in misery while god's people go on rejoicing and enduring these last days.

Scans of WT vs. bound volume: Paul saying work finished "by end of 20th century" changed to "in our time"
by tomrobbins inhello, looking for the actual scans.... i have looked through the search function here on jwn but can't find the actual scans of the magazine that states something like: "paul said that this preaching work will be finished by the end of the 20th century" and then scans of the bound volume of that same issue where the wording is changed to something like: "paul said that the preaching work will be finished in our day".
there are the direct quotes available in the jwn search but i'd really like to have the actual scans of the pages.. does anyone have the pdfs that they could post?.
my jw mom was ripping on the mormons for changing their doctrine in printed word the other day... so this would be interesting to have on hand if she brings stuff like that up again.. thanks!.

Happiness book was writting something similar. So that time another young boy told me that he asked an elder to make sure that the end would come before 2000 and the elder confirmed it.

World Could End Soon (Oh, Crap)
by metatron ini hate gloom and doom but sadly..... http://www.latimes.com/news/science/la-sci-solar-storms-20120505,0,6214500.story?page=2&sc=7369001384796169482.
this is no laughing matter.
a major cme or flare could wipe out civilization by destroying power grids everywhere.. this is why i get so angry about global warming hysteria - there are far more serious threats that could emerge in months, not decades ahead.. i also understand that a small asteroid is scheduled to come breathtakingly close to hitting earth in two years.

There are Semitic loanwords in Greek (especially via Phoenician) but Greek does not derive nor have its "roots" in Proto-Semitic. This perhaps sounds like another "crank" idea...
Avail yourself with a proto Semetic dictionary. It is not simply a few words that were borrowed.
Titans fought against the Olympian Gods (Ol-ympian or El). From the opposing mountains included rocks were thrown (βαλλω). Compare 1. With the struggle between the Semetic gods you already posted 2. With the etymology of Balearic Isles in wikipedia. If you don't put the bits together you will fail-as the wikipedia contributor did-to see the common root.
-
Now back to the theme:
Why Beth-El?
We already have these 'Semetic loanwords?' all over Europe:
El-las (Greece)
Al-bania
Al-ps
Ol-ympus
Al-ba
Al-bion (England)
El-vetia (Switzerland)
.... (the list is endless)
Why didn't the WT use the term Bethyah? Why?

Apart from fun, the super volcano of Santorini gives signals that an eruption may take place soon. Given the history of the volcano a super eruption might be the end of our modern civilization.
