Strong female characters in film before the 'Woke Era'

since about 2015, hollywood has congratulated itself and circle-jerked over the 'strong women' characters they've written.

i'd say this roughly began with rey in the force awakens (2015).

what hollywood forgets is that strong characters have to have a personality, otherwise audiences don't really relate to them.. well, hollywood should really stop patting themselves on the back as if they've done something special.. strong female characters have been a staple for decades.. here's one: private vasquez, from aliens (1986).

New site on reddit specifically for ---- GEN-X eXJW

yesterday or a few days ago a site started specifically for gen x -exjws.

it caters to those born in the 60s to around 70s and some 80s yesterday it had 2 members, today it has 102 members.

keep in mind that for most of these gen x, there was no internet, no mobile phone, heck, i don't think there was even cable tv.

The exjw reddit is mostly for young kids exiting the WT so this site is for the pre-internet days when no one knew who the Governing Body was.

If you were born into the WT cult, chances are you would be stuck there for the next 30 -40 years because there was very little information about the Religion and the Bible.

What I find interesting is the JW stuff that nobody talks about today like;

in the last days the world will get so bad they will be “Streaming to the mountain of Jehovah looking for the good news” - Rather than streaming out as they are now
If we have to start asking for donations we have lost Jehovah’s spirit
The end will definitely be here before the end of the century, the 1914 Gen will be almost gone by then.

Remember going to a different assembly because you liked that girl or guy. Then all going out together?

I got my license at 16, could drive fully by myself. No cell phones back then, mom and dad had no idea exactly where I was and couldn't call me. It was so embarrassing calling that girl or guy as we only had one phone in the house, in the most common area in the house too.
Haha,well I gotta say I was super awkward, but it was still fun. Meeting up with my girlfriends from different halls, all of us chitchatting about our crushes, stalking our crushes, ...the young JWs don't have that these days. Those silly all-video conventions are absolutely nothing compared to the old school conventions, with the danishes and Shasta pop and live dramas and circular shaped convention halls to troll in. They were actually fun. So culty, but so anticipated, every year.
Ha. That’s the best reason to be a attendant, to find all the chicks……and to not sit down and listen to all the BS !
Conventions were always at least 4 days long and the only thing I looked forward to about them were the apple danishes for breakfast and hoagie sandwiches for lunch that we would pay for with our strip of blue coupons.
Life in the 80s as a witness was torture because of the beatings for bad behavior that were the norm amongst witness kids and because every second of every day was a reminder about Armageddon which resulted in vivid nightmares of Satan falling to earth (as depicted in the live forever book) to kill me.
Yet I miss that more simple time before all the technology chaos. Sitcoms were actually good to watch, the music was great, neon was everywhere and the bangs were always teased high!

Go Bag and Catastrophes

i live with my parents in law and yesterday, my mother in-law was very nervous about an email she got from the brothers in her congregation.

it was asking if she would be able to receive people over at our house should there be a catastrophe.

so, she asked me if i would agree with this.

If shit hit the fan, wouldn't it be wiser and safer to stay locked up at home with a refrigerator full of food instead of running outside with a bag small enough to carry just a few items??

The bag might last a day or two, maybe a little bit more if you have enough can food.

Staying at home you might have enough T-Bone steaks to last a month.

i remember michael dukakis, when he was a usa presidential candidate, saying i he was opposed to the death penalty - even for rapists and murderers.

I meant IMPERFECT!

A good example of humans being flawed is perhaps comparing it to a brand new vehicle. I've seen some people who have a truck they bought in their teenage years, and they still have it at age 80s.

The Truck had some minor problem but nothing serious. At least not serious enough to get rid of it.

Others bought a new truck and it was stolen and damaged. No matter how much the person tried to fix it, something always seems to break. The only solution in this case if you don't want any problems, in your life is to Get Rid of the Truck.

The same with humans. Some humans, though no fault of their own are either born defective, become defective because of the environment they were born into, or because of some BAD experience, they become DAMAGED in one way or another and cannot be rehabilitated.

The Person now is a danger to innocent men, women and children in the Society he lives in.

The Damaged person has to be put down as sad as that is.Otherwise we endanger the innocent.

What do we do with a 16 year old like that? You tell me!

The key is to acknowledge that we do not live in a Perfect World.

That being said, we should not look for a Perfect solution.

Humans are flawed from birth. Including Good Honest people who can turn in an instant, for whatever reason, Your example shows how this is possible. (The Kid changed when he lost his father.)

The same thing happens over and over. Some Good people change to complete opposite when something drastic happens in their life.

A man trying his best to be a Good Human suddenly loses his wife and children to a heinous murder. How can he not help but to be angry at the World----at God---at life!

His mind goes through a physical change. He becomes a sociopath, then a psychopath, then he takes his anger out at other humans because it was a human that killed his family and changed his life.

He starts killing other humans, including innocent ones who haven't experience the reality of this life.

With that in mind, we seek IN-PERFECT solutions to a CURRENT PROBLEM.

Those IN-PERFECT SOLUTIONS are many times DEATH --no so much to punish the man, but to remove the danger to the innocent people that could become his victims.

Is it fair?

NO!

But that's the wold we live in and we have to accept that.

That's why religion was Born. It was humans trying to make sense of it all and give some measure of hope to those innocent oneS who experience the grief of losing the ones you love---FOREVER.

i been seeing several experiences by jws who are waking up very quickly.

not years, not months, not even days-----but minutes.

it seems that all the hypocrisy of the watchtower is becoming more obvious to the members.

What's really exciting about their experience is they are only 32 years old!!!

Yea that's pretty cool. There are also tons of experiences of 12- and up - years olds waking up an asking for direction on how to get out as soon as possible.

Just last week a 12 year old girl popped up on reddit exjw and was asking for help on how to leave the jw religion because she read on the internet about all the child abuse. At 12 years of age she figure out the Watchtower couldn't possible be God's organization.

Tons of posters immediately went to her rescue and explained to her that she needed to delete her post because she posted her full name and the congregation she was attending. Her father was an elder and mother a pioneer.

The posters explained to her to come back with an alias and don't mention the Congregation. And they would be more than happy to help her.

She agreed and said she would come back as a middle age women and ask for help.

There are tons of these kids asking for help to escape. They won't have their life ruined like many who didn't have access to the internet.

Then I got older and wiser. Some people are just evil and their only goal in life is to destroy others too

I feel the same way. And I would have no problem injecting, pulling down the lever to let the voltage run, or just plain shooting evil people in the head.
