Education video this midweeks meeting

there is an item this week all about yang ones leaving school.. the two brothers go to a career advisor seminar.

one brother thinks it’s good to work hard full time while you are young and tries to encourage his friend to as well.. his friend (who is the good jw trust the gb no matter what they say)) he wants a part time job.. the video shows him dreaming about investing his money on his phone and the chart goes up, he drives a nice car and seems to be doing well financially.. then he reads the scripture in proverbs and next you see that investment chart go down in the red and he is so pleased he just got a low paid part time job.. this infuriates me.

how many of us are now struggling because we were told to get menial part time jobs and we were told the end would have been here by now.. i will never tell a young person to listen to the gb advice on this.

I will never tell a young person to listen to the GB advice on this. I think it’s very good for a young person to work hard full time while they are young and have the energy to do it.

Listen to the Bibles advice which is excellent and ignore the twisted interpretation from the GB of JWs

how many of the millions of jws know it’s not true but stay anyway?.

my guess is most jws know it’s not true on a subconscious level to an extent but they don’t want to think about it too much and would never ever voice it out loud.. but this is probably true with all religions around the world?.

Sunk cost fallacy applies to so much. People get comfortable.

Maybe the place someone lives and the job they have are not exactly right for them but they are comfortable. There is no harm in staying as they are, so If it ain’t broke why try to fix it.

The area you live now, you know it, it’s all familiar, you have friends and you are comfortable there? Why don’t you move? Answer sunk cost fallacy.

Most people are in the religious beliefs they were handed down by their relatives or simply the country they were born into. Why don’t they change as they don’t really believe all of it?

this is certainly true for all JWs who if they really stopped to think about it, they don’t believe all the GBs interpreting of all scriptures.

but they have so much invested in so many years building friendships and relationships. Sunk cost fallacy yes, but what is the actual cost?

what is the harm in staying physically in while mentally either totally out or at least partly out being agnostic?

there is no harm from where I’m sitting. I have really good friends in the congregation and find it very interesting studying the Bible with a critical mind.

I don’t know the truth about the interpretation of these scriptures, or even if God exists. But for now I’m taking pascals wager that possibly God exists and the Bible is very interesting to study with JWs every week.

With some friends in the cong we love to chat about the portion of the Bible we are studying midweek meeting. We all have critical thinking skills and often ask very thought provoking questions

i been reading quite a few experiences on reddit lately, and their seems to be a common theme coming up….

…dialed-up-to-eleven shunning of xjws by their witness relatives.. it reminds me of back in the day, listening to some of the over-the-top vitriol displayed by hard-core loyalists when the topic of evolution or apostates came up….

…i was gobsmacked when i finally realized these guys weren’t offended and indignant because they thought it was lies….

Absolutely it is. It is the course of wisdom. Unless you are absolutely sure about your interpretation of the Bible, and if anybody says that then almost certainly they are not correct.

PIMA stabilises you. It’s the conclusion the very end result of a lifetime of deep study. If you are not where I am yet then please do more study of all so called experts from all the different religions and beliefs that you can find.

I have several decades of deep searching and I’ve come to the satisfaction that humans just don’t know and I’m content with that.

I still have a positive hope in the Bibles promises and I’m free of lies like eternal torture in hell.

Im now a very old man. Think my best before date is starring me in the face. I will find out very soon what happens after death. Perhaps nothing, this is probably my most likely scenario, maybe the atheists are correct.

But I find being physically in the JWs benefits me. Having every visit me so much is very encouraging. I do say things that some in the congregation may find cryptic. But they don’t stop to think about what I really mean.

They tell me how sure they are in the Bibles promises. I say things like “having the hope has really helped me and to keep talking to everyone about the hope is so encouraging”

The truth is I’m not certain about the interpretation or if the hope is even real, but I find it’s better to have that Hope being agnostic than no hope at all being atheist.

Are you familiar with Pascal's wager?

yes. Lots of talk on this forum about it. Whatever you decide about God is a wager even if you don’t think about it at all that is a wager. I’m PIMA that is the wager I’ve decided to place.

There is possibly some truth to most religious beliefs including JWs. I also feel many benefits to being part of a community even if you don’t necessarily believe it there are still benefits

In my OP I said that I'm fascinated by people like yourself who rejected JW teachings and then decided not only was the religion false, but the Bible and the stories of Jesus and God are too. (Or might be).

I’m fascinated by people who decide JWs are not the truth but other interpretations of the Bible are.

Surely in the end most people come to the conclusion that those of us who become agnostic did.

We just don’t know, and be comfortable in the knowledge that we just don’t know. There are so many interpretations and they may have some truth to them or maybe not. Almost certainly there is more to it.

on february 22, 2023, anthony morris iii was officially removed from the governing body of jehovah's witnesses.

a few months later it was revealed that the watchtower bought him a house in lumberton, north carolina.. however, and correct me if i am wrong, since leaving the gb nobody has reported seeing tony attending jw meetings or participating in field service.

in fact nobody has reported seeing him anywhere, not even at a local liquor store.

Fred Franz was blind and living in the Bethel Infirmary but still a member of the Governing Body

So the story that he left due to infirmity does not hold up.

for those of you who are pimo, how do you feel it may be effecting your mental and physical health?

is it easy to pretend to be what you are not?

how do you feel about falsely supporting the pimi which builds them up and therefore an org you don't believe in?

You can basically do whatever you want. Sex, blood, smoking, drugs, rock and roll.

You can’t just do those things. You would first have some warnings and then possibly a 90 day sanction.

if you keep doing them you may be an habitual 90day sanction JW.

but yes mighty big changes from years ago

I’m interested to know if Lloyd himself knows what a scumbag he has been to his family?

reading those letters he wrote to his wife it seems it’s all her fault that he cheated on her with prostitution.

does he genuinely feel those that accused him of using sex workers are in the wrong for accusing him of that even though it’s true?

Surely this is true of any feeling of brotherhood? It has to be conditional. Any friendship for that matter. If your friend really hurt you time and again, in an extremely bad way then that would surely be the end of the friendship.

You can have unconditional love for family members but if they turn out to be involved in really evil criminal activities then you surely would disown them and cut them off unless they were really sorry.

The issue is JWs have set the bar far too high and with all these change they are lowering the height at which they set the bar.

I think the feeling of brotherhood is real in the JW organisation. There are some really truly great people in the org and that’s why I’m staying physically in, even though I’m mentally agnostic.

SLCF You sound like you have made up your mind that Jesus is Gods son and the Bible is his word. You may be right I’m agnostic so I don’t know. But if you are so sure about that then why not the other things the Bible says and what about all the promises in there? There will be a reseerection of the righteous and the unrighteous? Death will be no more and the meek shall inherit the Earth and they will find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace?

Do you believe all the things promised in the Bible?

He has admitted to dating a sex worker, this means hiring a prostitute for a while. Poor girl she must have been very desperate or exploited and forced into this horrendous industry.

He is so obviously lying that he didn’t go there for exactly that. He keeps crying about being sexually repressed by being brought up a JW.
