if it was the kj or one of the other translations favored by christendom, how did the wts work around the translation errors "corrected" by the nwt?...john 1:1, extensive use of jehovah in nt, etc.

Yes 10YA - I was too little at the time and I cannot recall how they handled John 1:1.
Probably just like the handle Rev. 19:1 now. Have it removed from the Index at the back of the green NWT and never ever mention it or discuss it.

Wasn't it the Revised Standard edition? I think WT printed it, I don't know who came up with the translation.
I seem to remember a dark blue cover and maybe red page edges??

It was OK. Crap enough ending, like they ran out of money.
The original was awesome. The original Gort - scary as all hell.
The new Gort was OK but they didn't use him enough - he needed to kick some more arse.

my jw-ex-wife told me this the other day...the one df'd three times and reproved twice that i know of (oh the irony of speaking of morals)...she was going on about evil movies and the violent cage boxing/wrestling events (sorry i forget the name of these).....well i went off!.....i asked her how can she say that when in jesus day and shortly after....the romans...in real life let huge animals devour humans as they tried to fight off the animals!.....and they watched real people hack each other to bits withs swords!.....and that in live plays people would have sex and such.....and these were open public events.....not things in dark warehouses in third world countries......she just got mad............oompa.
there was even "temple prostitutes" in the bible....now that could get me back to the meetings.

Yes you are correct. In everyday speech most Hungarians however would say "barack" referring to apricots and "oszibarack" when referring to peaches.
