  i often wonder what the borg would do if governments decided to end 'marraige'.

  so you have the ceremony but there is no need for the legal bit.

  i kinda think things are headed that way because defacto and same sex relationships already have the same legal rights.. marraige is open to abuse.

  Marraige is open to abuse. eg. to get a green card or to get half the old guys money before he drops dead.

  Now with so much focus on Gay people wanting the same rights as Heterosexual couples I half expect the government to drop the whole legal signing the marraige contract and everyone just have a commitment ceremony.

  It would be funny to see them trying to draw the line as to when dubs could have sex and when couples could split up.

  quick build fun

  how many of you have ever worked on a quick build?

  here's a good one.

  i am a professional pencil pusher by nature.....but many years ago i decided i would volunteer at quick builds so i could help "build a house for jehovah".

  I enjoyed quickbuilds and went to all of the ones in our state, before during and after as my Dad was a coordinator.

  It was great to check out all the teenage boys.

  I like Bobbi found menial kitchen or sweeping up tasks then dropped them after half an hour and went for another walk . lol

  The witlesses whos hall we were helping to build were always so grateful that they put on the most awesome food - that was definetely a plus.

  Also it got me out of preaching and we got to attend the Sunday watchtower and dedication talk in our old jeans.... Until they changed that after a few years.

  Man you really got to see peoples personalities for real when they were at quickbuilds, some 'Bros and Sis' were real control freaks and arrogant,argumentative arseholes!!

  Spiritual paradise.... my arse! Who'd wanna be in paradise with these freaks?

  I agree with InterestedOne.

  If us kids (born-in) ever complained about anything theocratic my parents would say 'well you have much better parents thanks to Jehovah, if we werent in the truth we would still smoke, swear and drink heavily and Dad would still be in the Navy away most of the year.'

  My parents highlighted the 'safe, moral' side of the org. Boy if only that were true.

  They forgot the part about the guilt, fear and self esteem problems arising from never being good enough for the org and always coming second to everyone and everything else in the org.

  Oh and my non JW parents would never have shunned me because I would have a proper place in their lives as their daughter not as someone they begrudgingly had to raise in a stupid cult.

  My young Sister and her Husband (20 and 23yrs old) are fake/very moderate witlesses, they celebrate birthdays and xmas with my other sister who is no longer active. They regularly drink to excess, have only worldly friends and swear like troopers.

  They disagree with a number of doctrines yet still they stay in, getting to most meetings, minimum preaching effort and also giving talks.

  My Sis is trying to make Mum and Dad happy and is still afraid of armaggedon. My Bro in law has no family 'in' anymore and doesnt believe that only JWs will get through armageddon.

  They are still stuck in the stupid cult but at least they have started to move away from it by their actions.

  Lets hope they start to research the net and see TTATT.

  Man I really feel for you mate.

  I was DF for a few yrs and my parents and siblings shunned me. I had no one.

  Now Im faded they dont have a lot to do with me but we can still talk. If it was my kids I would be absolutely shattered.

  I love Quandrys advice, I too would go with that, sending small notes and photos, quick and to the point. Let him know you will NEVER stop loving him even if he has to shun you.

  I expect in the future that my folks will shun me for apostacy or some judicial action and I will always send them notes and photos and let them know I still love them.

  Watchtower's Billion Dollars of Property Cannot Be Sold until Outcome of Conti Appeal

  30 minutes ago i just got off the phone with some important players in this case, and some things were relayed to me concerning a lot of details of the outcome of the last two days of court.

  i am passing this on.

  cynthia hampton, one of the main players in the candace conti case (and a close friend of 28 years), just informed me of a further, far more powerful move by the state of california against the watch tower bible and tract society of new york, inc.. by order of the superior court of the state of california - county of alameda (see documents below), until the watch tower's appeal, which won't begin until august 13th and will take up to two years to settle due to due process of law, has forbidden the watch tower to sell any more of its $1 billion in assets in the borough of brooklyn until the appeals case is finished, to assure they won't shelter their monies in the light of this most huge and devastating sexual abuse scandal ever to hit the watch tower society, and perhaps any other single-victim lawsuit.
