" I think sales would have been higher, if they hadn't gone for that god-awful colour ! Was that just to make it look different from "Christendom's Bible" ??
It should have had "Don't Panic" written on it, in large friendly letters... ๐

Why disfellowship must be eliminated for the survival of the WT itself
by TheScientist inthis topic i digress about why the watchtower relaxing the rules of disfellowship is essential for its survival.
many things i'm going to say are not my ideas, some are, the point is, i'm condensing everything in a logical and concise way.. the first thing we have to keep in mind is that the wt's main objective in instituting disfellowship has always been not to lose members because of the damage that a dissident could do, or to avoid gaining new members because of the bad reputation of a confessed sinner in the his/her region.
in the end, the more active members, the more money to the coffers.. in this case of disfellowship due to apostasy, to avoid any spark, texts were sought out of context that even prohibited saying "hi".

I think the OP is right that the current harsh, hardline disfellowshipping policy creates a rod for their own back that they can't afford anymore. Violence begets violence, and the WT isn't in the position it once was where harsh discipline was an effective tool of terror to keep people in line. Previously, they were enjoying growth and could create an "us vs them", isolatory wall around the R&F that they were afraid of being on the outside of.
Things are different now. There are probably more exes and PIMOs than members and true believers. There is the internet. Anyone questioning anything can instantly find answers in the comfort and safety of their own home. And they also very quickly find out that they are not isolated and alone, the way the WT wants them to feel, but that there are support networks out there, for anyone who needs help.
Once they could rely on fear and compliance, but things have changed. MissDaSilva, far from quietly slipping out, feels confident enough to lob a grenade in her former elders' faces. If you live by the sword, you perish by the sword โ๏ธ, and the WT has created a class of angry warriors with nothing to lose, who would like nothing better than to see the Tower fall.
They're squeezing too hard in this day and age, and their harshness is coming back to bite them. So, logically, rationally, the best course is to end disfellowshipping, allow disassociation without consequences and try to support and strengthen the true believers still left in the ranks.
A brief footnote on disfellowshipping: the GB need to get straight in their heads the difference between sin and crime, and let the governing authorities investigate and sort out crime, which is their job.

The GB's New Year's Resolutions
by NotFormer intowards the end of this year, they managed to shock many on here and elsewhere with new resolutions, like publishers no longer having to record hours and now allowing men to grow beards without having to face judgement or judgemental behaviour.
but, as pointed out by a few, these amount to being not much more than cosmetic changes, one in administrative paperwork and the other in personal grooming habits.
the other major change announced in the leaked agm video is the possibility of being saved at the last minute.

But, as pointed out by a few, these amount to being not much more than cosmetic changes, one in administrative paperwork and the other in personal grooming habits.
The other major change announced in the leaked AGM video is the possibility of being saved at the last minute. It has yet to be officially announced, released, whatever. This one is arguably more consequential in the face of WT beliefs previously peddled. And the current expectation seems to be that it will be announced soon, in the new year. So, a much anticipated New Year's resolution.
What other changes of heart and direction should we expect to see from the GB in the coming year? What, from a rational and conservative approach, could we expect and hope to see change?
And from a completely emotional perspective, unfettered by rational considerations, what outrageous, totally unpredictable changes would you hope to see? Let your imagination run wild! ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐

Broadcasts, Are they just a distraction?
by KerryKing inthe recent broad casts about not handing in time sheets, and then about beards, especially the beards, it seems so trivial, are those talks only released in order to distract the followers from the recent court case they lost on spain, from the csa cases, the kh sales and so on?.
i reckon they're taking their lead from the media, distract and divide tactics..

The Governing Body - Both sides of their coin
by Ron.W. inhow many can you think of.... they speak for god.. it would seem presumptuous to say they speak for god,.
they are neither inspired nor infallible.. they are god's only channel for issuing truth here on earth.
they won't be apologising for any errors/falsehoods they have promoted in the past that fail.. congregation members must be quick and apologise for their errors to avoid harsh discipline/disfellowshipping.. when they change a major belief/doctrine you must not complain or criticise them.

Blondie: another weird paradox. It says, more or less, "Even if it is objectively wrong, if we say it, it's right".

Vidiot: "Every idea we have is a blessing from God! Even the stuff we cribbed from Satanโs World!โ
Their very structure is that of a business. It probably didn't look much like a religion under Russell, and certainly didn't once Rutherford got his claws into it.

"Just like The Federation"
I managed to find most of the "especially the lies" episode. You're right about the malfunctioning device in his head, it's also the one where he let the kids go. Given that the episode was highlighting how little objective truth comes from Garak, I wonder if that incident even happened.

"Everyone makes mistakes"
Actually, they DO say that to excuse the GB. They just never extend it to the rank and file members.
