Lines you would never hear from a Jehovah's Witness
by Ron.W. ina slightly tongue in cheek, but also serious roundup of jw speak and why trying to reason with them is like trying to chip through concrete with a plastic spoon.. how many can you think of??.
elder: 'yes.
i read through the material you asked me to at your judicial meeting - you're right we're both in a cult!

The Saddest Thing About Tony Morris's Removal
by NotFormer ini've mentioned before how i've wondered how tony morris must have felt when he was sacked.
yes, i know he's a rehensible human being who got served a healthy dose of karma, or, if you like, divine judgement.
to go from having all there is to have within the world he lived in, to where he is now; that's a long fall.

By putting this up for discussion, I have learned things that I was initially unaware of. I've modified some of my underlying assumptions accordingly. At the end of the day the facts are few and far between, and speculation is all that's available. I wouldn't make the same opening statement as I did at the start of this thread now, because we've had some robust discussion about what little is known regarding this case.
Diogenesister, it was when you brought that up earlier that I realised that the whole Bottlegate thing was probably more heat than light. And then found out how long ago it was.

shunning the congregation
by enoughisenough ini was watching a youtube by jerome about religious freedom part 2. it was so disgusting to see the two jw testifying that instead of the congregation shunning those who disassociate, it is the person who disassociates that is choosing to shun the congregation.
the commissioners kept asking why someone who had been sexually abused had to be shunned if they disassociated ....jdubs talked in circles and never answered the question.
so glad i woke up and got out ...to support the org is a reproach to anything decent..

It turned my stomach reading this! 🧟🤢 The WT is completely morally and ethically bankrupt. "The World" has higher standards of righteousness than they do!

Where is Tony?
by Athanasius inon february 22, 2023, anthony morris iii was officially removed from the governing body of jehovah's witnesses.
a few months later it was revealed that the watchtower bought him a house in lumberton, north carolina.. however, and correct me if i am wrong, since leaving the gb nobody has reported seeing tony attending jw meetings or participating in field service.
in fact nobody has reported seeing him anywhere, not even at a local liquor store.

Balaamsass2 says that the WT should get out of the spy and cop business. I'm intrigued to know if they now use codenames to cover secret identities. Like "Deep Throat" from Watergate...

On Bottlegate and embarrassing the WTS, I didn't realise how long ago that was. It was at least five years ago; I was under the impression that it was more recent, and therefore some sort of smoking gun regarding Tony's removal/retirement. That he was some sort of conservative holdout and needed to make way for fresh blood makes more sense now, especially with the recent changes.

Vidiot, that thought crossed my mind too. The leaking probably took them by surprise and forced them to make new arrangements. If that's the case, it's to their credit: they managed to cover their tracks this time. The housing situation was the one thing that leaked. If they've rehoused Tony, then they've stopped that from leaking. They've really got a tight lid on this case of Tony's "retirement". They rarely maintain this level of security.

A talk about 1975 from 1972
by Nostromo ineverybody knows the famous "stay alive still 75" audio clip but here is a clip from 1972 with english subtitles.
harold mouritz was the branch committee member in finland when he gave this talk.

As a rule, I don't watch these videos; for some reason they make my skin crawl. If he really is saying what the OP says he is, that's some smoking gun!
Of course, the JW apologists will write it off as apostate rewriting of history. Perhaps Harold Mouritz was listening to apostates in 1972? 🙄

"Beast" Memories
by NotFormer ini've been crapping on the wt a lot lately, which sometimes seems a bit unfair to me, especially since i was never in, therefore i don't really have a dog in the fight.
to provide a bit of balance, i'll reminisce about the rampant prophecy speculation going on in mainstream christianity (i refuse to use the wt's pejorative term: "christendom", especially since by definition, they're part of that classification 🙄) in the 70s and 80s.
to be fair, the churches themselves had been around long enough to realise that end times interpretations are like arseholes, everybody has one.

The purveyors of prophetic wisdom were hangers on at the fringes. They would be invited to a circuit of certain (usually new and upcoming) churches regularly, where they would espouse their ideas and a collection would be taken to help further their work. Their stars would usually fade very quickly when they made specific date predictions and they inevitably didn't come to pass. This isn't so much about them as a memory I have of one particular piece of anecdotal evidence that a few of them attached themselves to.
In 1974 a joint venture of the major Australian banks introduced a credit card system called BankCard. How this relates to all of the above is because of one feature of it, the logo. It was a stylised lower case letter "b", in three colours. To the imaginative, this spelled "666". 🙄 Here's the Wikipedia article about BankCard, showing the logo:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bankcard
As a young lad being constantly told about the 666 symbol on the BankCard, I just could not see it! It didn't even look like a very good representation of a "b" to me, let alone a 6. I'd walk past a bank branch with the BankCard logo in the window and gaze at it, and walk off shaking my head, saying "I don't see it".
Take a look at the logo as depicted in the Wikipedia article. Was I wrong?
