It's interesting looking over these old posts. The list of petty rules and personal hangups is enormous! People who are still in or freshly out, are there any new examples you could add to this list?

Somehow Quora got my email address. I have a constant stream of unsolicited content turning up in my email. The only way I found online to stop it is to block each Quora address individually and it gets sent to spam. The stuff is relentless. I don't even have a Quora account. I just checked my spam folder after about a week and there were nine unsolicited, unwanted Quora Digest emails. About six were JWs asking questions that nobody asked, and then answering them.
Why am I getting so much JW content? It used to be all about Hitler and Stalin. Now it's about why JWs are right to shun, how Ray Franz was a power hungry social climber, and so on. It's all very annoying.
(I check my spam folder from time to time to check that nothing important accidentally ended up in there)

LongHairGal: it takes a special kind of killjoy to suck the fun out of life. The WT is especially adept at it. I've read lots of testimonies like yours about leaving the WT and being able to just let your hair down and enjoy a bit of fun with the broader community. It's a bit like leaving an abusive partner: a lot of people when they do so, their first actions are to do something that their abuser absolutely forbade or made a fuss about.

Agreed, ignore Sue. She doesn't represent the majority of people here. Many are exes who've been through similar difficulties to your own.
You have every right to try to protect your children from their entitled, controlling mother. She doesn't have their best interests at heart; she only cares about looking good to her congregation. The JWs are evil, so what is good in their eyes is usually evil.
Sue, blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. You came here looking for care and support, and now you just crapped all over someone who is in a similar situation. Pray that God doesn't judge you the way you just judged rathernotsay, the OP. 🙄

From EasyPrompt's link: "Like the neighborly Samaritan in Jesus' illustration, we want to help suffering people, including those who are not Witnesses. (Luke 10:33-37) The best way to do so is by sharing the good news with them. "It is important to make clear right away that we are Jehovah's Witnesses and that our primary mission is to help them spiritually, not materially,"
Well, it looks like the meaning of the Good Samaritan story whooshed right over their heads; the Samaritan was considered the true neighbour because he provided material help, not because he preached anything. 🙄

Sounds like your life could do with some brightening up! 🙄

Church Cartoon; How Does it Compare to Caleb & Sophia?
by NotFormer ini attend a mainstream denominational church.
it's pretty old school in some ways, eg.
hymns, no modern choruses, sometimes there's an organist, otherwise piano and flute accompaniment.

I attend a mainstream denominational church. It's pretty old school in some ways, eg. hymns, no modern choruses, sometimes there's an organist, otherwise piano and flute accompaniment. Somewhat modernised: Bible passages and hymns are projected from (presumably) PowerPoint. Every week a short Bible Story cartoon (I think the series is called Slapstick Theatre) is shown for the kids. Last Sunday it was this one:
https://youtu.be/uYLHqdSO9OY?feature=shared
I find them somewhat cringeworthy, particularly when the main character, be they Moses, Elijah or Jesus, shouts "Hey-oh!" when introduced. 🙄 But to be fair, the kids seem to like them, as far as I can tell. They participate in the question and answer bit after the video is played.
How do you think this sort of thing compares to the WT version, the famous Caleb and Sophia stuff? Which would you rather sit through? Or would you rather not?

Highlights of DEC. 2023 Watchtower
by was a new boy inis watchtower nervous about including pictures of current governing body members that may have to be deleted one day?.
6 anointed christians cherish that hope.
one of them, brother (false prophet) frederick franz, said from his heart: “our hope is a sure thing, and it will be fulfilled fully to every last one of the 144,000 members of the little flock to a degree beyond what we have even imagined.”.

They continually predict things on "Jehovah's" behalf, if not specifically in his name. Of course they are false prophets. 🙄
