Just revisiting this thread after the announcements at the Annual Meeting. There's speculation that Tony Morris was removed because he was too hardline and old school to approve of the changes regarding counting hours and the change that allows for last minute repentance during the GT. Could his removal be more to do with boring bureaucracy than the more exciting reasons that have been speculated about?

The Baby That Would Never Be Born (1975)
by NotFormer ini wrote this story in another thread and thought that it could do with its own post for the benefit of those who claim that 1975 was never a thing.. in the 90s i had a conversation with a girl who had been born in 1975 (maybe 1976, now that i'm remembering the dates; she was 18 in 1994).
her mother's sister (a jw) used to point at the mother's baby bump and say something like "that baby's never going to be born".
presumably meaning "armageddon's imminent and you're going to die!".

Apparently it was the family joke from then on that that girl was "the baby who was never going to be born".
So get off your high horse 🐎, JW apologists, JWs were totally being told by their higher ups that 1975 was"it".

Real reasons behind this change?
by Gorb injust a good conversation at home about the hour report change.. we think the change was not impmemented because the gb are such a lovely bunch of old grandpa's having the best in mind for us individuals.. there will be only, and we say only, an organizational reason for it.
a legal reason, to protect jw.org and it's officials and wealth.. next step?
maybe selling more kh and when jw hollywood studio's in rampoo are ready a change to tv subscription.. what do you think?

Rattigan, the JWs totally believed that stuff, and it wasn't people"running ahead of Jehovah "; they were being told this from platforms around the world (this happened in Australia).
Edited to clarify: She was probably due in 1976 (she was 18 in 1994), hence the "will never be born") thing, the pregnancy being during 1975.

Did Anyone Have Fun With Their Field Service Reports?
by NotFormer innow that there is new light on reporting hours in field service, it's raised a few questions for me, who was never in the jws.
did any of you ever have fun with the field service report slips, by finding creative ways of reporting time without raising suspicions in those who oversaw the collection of those slips?.
also, can anyone upload an image of what the slips looked like, or point me to a post that gives uploaded examples of the sort of paperwork that was familiar to jws in good standing?.

Would someone have words with you if you turned in a report with something written down the bottom like "I'm claiming 123 XYZ Street for after Armageddon"?

by EasyPrompt inhttps://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/jehovahs-witnesses-head-to-court-on-abuse-in-care-inquiry-victims-feel-a-kick-in-the-guts/hwjsnshi5vfv7ghjztr63goseu/.
"by bill hickman of rnz.
the new zealand branch of the jehovah’s witnesses is going to court in an attempt to have the church made exempt from the abuse in care inquiry today.. in the high court at wellington, lawyers for the church are seeking a declaration that the church is not responsible for the care of children or vulnerable people in new zealand.. abuse survivor advocate and former church elder shayne mechen said the church was trying to use a technicality to side-step its inclusion in the inquiry.. .

LoveUniHateExams: "There are plenty of classic films of the 70s and 80s that wouldn't get made today because someone, somewhere, would find it 'problematic' (Jesus, I hate that word)."
Try making Blazing Saddles today! Mel Brooks has said as much.

Things JWs Say That Don't Mean What They Think It Means
by NotFormer insometimes things don't come across the way the speaker intended.. years ago there was an ad by the whitegoods company fisher and paykel.
they showed them going to great lengths to get customer feedback on what was important to them.
one customer said that she wanted it to be easy to get her appliances serviced when they broke down.

Sue, one anecdote that I'm pretty sure I've read here is when the householder says "I'm sorry, but I'm a Methodist!", the JW will quip "I'm sorry you're a Methodist, too!"

It should be scriptural because they always warn against "going beyond what is written".

Meanmrmustard, I remember people saying that when they were out in field service, they would pick out what houses they would occupy when the owners were slain at Armageddon. That could have passed for "fun" in Dubdom.
