Watchtower in Review. HYPOCRITES

i have not made a watchtower in review for a while, and certainly not yet, here on jw.com.

hypocrites.. it only gets better, as paragraph 3, under the subheading "belief versus truth" begins with the statement "of course, it does not take deliberate lies to develop mistaken beliefs", but as the watchtower knows all to well, it helps.

My only fear is that at the rate you're going, you're about losing your head/health. I know this board is cathartic: you spill it out and you feel slightly better. But just how long are you going to lead a double life? Please I do not mean this to be derogatory, but hiding your on-line activities from your wife, conducting the book study, carrying on as an elder, going out (still) in field service and placing magazines and books (which you admit are worthless at best, extremely harmful at worst - therefore akin to administering poison to unsuspecting people), turning in your report, giving talks, teaching what you no longer believe, goading the flock, secretly wishing they'd all quit the religion you're in but vilify, the list is endless. I know your fears (losing wife and kids), but wouldn't it be better for all concerned if you made bold by declaring who you truly are and what you now believe? Wouldn't it be far better if you stopped being a hypocrite yourself?

I too "have been there" and that personal conflict and struggle leave a telling mark. I believe you're doing more harm than good to yourself and your loved ones, notwithstanding your "services" to this board.

Why DO they stay?

there is much discussion of the "dumbness" of those still in and the reason that they stay.. some of the reasons that i have seen are:.

they want everything in black and white.. they prefer to leave thinking to others.. they are scared to be shunned.. they are just ignorant souls who are on the "opium of the people".

they dont want others to think bad of them.. while i agree that there is no one single reason and that everyone is different, i feel that the real reason is a much deeper one.

The issues may be far more complicated.

"They want everything in black and white."

I believe this applies to every religion. Adepts want to see things in simple, uncomplicated terms, and the simpler the better. If the earth was created in six days, six days be it. Anything beyond that fundamental interpretation is bound to raise contention, spurn depths that religion in the basic sense is not kitted out to handle. It is not typical of Jehovah's Witnesses.

"They prefer to leave thinking to others."

Again typical to most religious groups. That's why there is a clergy class in every structured religion. The clergy are supposedly closer to the divine, therefore able to think and interprete, teach the laity.

"They are scared to be shunned."

Rightfully so. It's human to want to belong to the group and not be ostracized. It's sad for any religion to use "shunning" as a weapon. This is one of the most reprehensible of practices among Witnesses. Unfortunately, the majority of witnesses think they are right and biblically authorized to disfellowship and shun - even as the Catholic Church claims every right to excommunicate.

You could generalize that to every religion and body of beliefs. Which would make every believer in or practicer of a religion an ignorant soul, needing a frequent fix of that "opium"....

An all too human reaction.

Could it be that many Witnesses who choose to remain simply want a religion to cling to, and they are reasonably comfortable with what they have?

I think it too presumptuous on anyone's part to dump scores of thousands into simplified and simplistic pigeon holes for their own comfort.

she used to throw heavy punches out there and i really loved to read her.

Thanks a million for responding. Aisne was usually a delight to read, especially given the totally assinine assertions from certain Witnet posters. Surely, that kind of mind isn't too welcome in the JW world.

Your writing reminded me of Aisne; I was half believing she was hiding behind your face!!!! Just shows I can't analyze style. Oh well, just to say I've appreciated your coolheaded comments to the board even when sparks fly. Keep up the good work.

Our meeting was last night. The brother who discussed the part is a power engineer and has three kids in college. I wonder whether he was assigned on purpose, but you could tell he was very uncomfortable delivering what he obviously didn't believe in.

Very few people now take these articles seriously. Most know it's business as usual, the GB or whoever represents them are back again doing what they do best: flogging the sheep. Of course when we are in the KH, we all agree that it's so timely and food at the right time from the ever so faithful and discreet slave, but out of those walls it's all balderash. The article is not worth a dime.

Give up on this crowd. You can't reform it.

I don't mean this as an insult, but your efforts here are not worth a dime. Get away from this board, and don't worry too much if H2O bites the dust. It's in the nature of things to live, grow and die. Don't take what is happening to H2O as a personal failure.

obviously a lot of you are no longer jws, for whatever reason, but surely you can find something better to do with your time.

you seem to spend a lot of your spare time slating the society or picking holes in your former beliefs.. if you've left and think what jws believe is a load of rubbish, thtat fine, you cn do what you want, but why you have to go on about it?

if being a jw means so little to you, why not just leave it behind and get on with your life?

Most of the responses have been kind indeed. For a few others who chose sarcasm ("why are you here when your religion says not to be"), remember that most of those who later turned "apostate" passed through the same path of defying the WT and its rules. Every Witness who comes to this and similar sites will have that initial reaction of disbelief and rage. How could any people villify the "one and only true religon"? Why can't they all see that they're wrong and we're right? The "mother" analogy has been used every so often, but it is still valid with the JW mindset. The Organization - as it is called - it every Witness' mother, perceived to be kind, all-knowing, never in the wrong. People don't take kindly to abuses rained at their mother. However, at some point, they start to realize that Mama isn't perfect, that as IANAO once suggested to me, the world - therefore life - is not all black and white but technocolor, that religion and God and life isn't suspended to what Brooklyn teaches. That is why, instead of mocking, hurling words at the "errant" Witness who comes to jw.com, the attitude of most in welcoming "such one" is likely to bear more fruit. It is such a supreme act of defiance for a Witness to get on the Internet and do a search on witnesses. In some way it shows he/she is not satisfied with what the Society dishes out weekly. He/she is ready to break ranks.

It will not take our friend here to learn the truth. Even if he chooses to remain a witness for whatever reason, he'll not be the same ever again.

i have heard demons talked about for years, however i have never known anyone that has had any real experiences with them, i have only heard storys.. .

Those are first hand experiences I lived. In the rurals of Africa unlike where you may be writing from, being tested "medically" is usually out of the way. I have seen vintroliquists before and even if it is possible to be fooled, here was no such case. Those voices not only spoke to everyone's hearing, but forced her to act beyond her frail frame. There were cases where four men could not keep her on her back because she had to obey her "orders". It is all too simple wanting emperical proof for such phenomena. The proof I ever needed were my eyes and ears.

Fascinating subject, this.

This is from my youthful days. A woman lived next door to my grandmother. Remember this is a rural setting in tropical Africa; the two houses are separated by a live hedge; you could peer through to see the woman sitting on the veranda, a few metres away. That woman had voices speaking to her that we could all hear, voices telling her things audibly, comprehensible things (like "XXXX[woman's name]get up"). If she didn't obey the voices, she'd be hurled up brutally. She was a frail woman, she was no vintroloquist, she was visibly tortured because the voices spoke day and night and hardly gave her a respite. This is no heresay. I witnessed this with my own eyes. Everyone in that village knew and heard those voices. It was no collective dementia, it was as real as you breathing now.

There are intelligent beings out there my friends, but our eyes simply cannot see them. It makes me laugh when some people insist on catching those beings on film: how can you photograph what you can't see? You can see the manifestation of the being, what "it" does, but you can't see the being because it is invisible. Folks, there are far too many things in the world that we cannot rationalize.

being bought up in this sick twisted orginization for many years i sypmathize for all of you who are brainwashed into believing it is the truth.its not!

its an organization full of scared helpless people,social outcasts,freaks,weirdos,power seeking old men,hypocrites and desperate charmless middle aged men attracted purely by the women.

i hear also a large number of peaodaphiles and now murderers?

Lettin' off steam, aren't you? Could you in all honesty qualify any set of people that way? If you stopped being a JW, wouldn't it make some sense to respect those who opt to remain?

I am a Witness, for how long I don't know. But I pray not to spew as much hatred against anyone or any group of people as your post has clearly demonstrated.

Or maybe you're just trying to provoke discussion. Maybe.
