Sorry Loubelle, but white privileges do exist in South Africa. You are writing from the perspective of a white person who formed part of a class that benefited from apartheid for decades. Despite the so-called black empowerment, the SA economy is still largely controlled by whites. Denying that obvious truth would not change it in any way.
Yes, I happen to have family in SA and I do know a little bit of what I am talking about.

Assuming he felt threatened by an intruder, could he not have called the police? I simply don't buy any of his arguments. He "seems" distraught because he wants to save his neck (in the sense of not spending a long time in prison; I gather SA does not have the death sentence). It is difficult for me personally to empathize with this individual.

myself and my family have had some odd experiences in our current congregation.
i have'nt been to meetings since september because of this.. 1. the co told the elder who was studying with my husband that he was doing it as an "academic exercise.
" my husband is very intelligent, been in the military, has a degree and a masters and a good job.

the priest acted as if he was the reason why people were there.
he was about 80 and totally disinterested in the affair although he married the deceased and her husband 15 years earlier.. his sermon's gist was that we need faith to accept that the reason why god has us die is so that we can go to heaven.
and that's it.. the only interesting (touching) time was when the grandkids gave testimonials about their beloved grandma.. oh, and one more thing.

In my view, the comma question is just nitpicking. As for being questioned over the choice of Bible at the meetings, I wonder which KH some people attend(ed). Until two years ago when I was an active attendee, I used the NWT and the NEB alternatively (not from the platform though). Not once did that raise an eyebrow.

Quite patronising, but I've read worse stuff about Africa (a good example is "Heart of Darkness" by Joseph Conrad). People forget that the continent has 55 states (or countries), a population in the hundreds of millions, a whole range of indigenous religions, not to mention the hundreds of languages and "peoples". Trying to squeeze the continent into one narrow frame does not work. Using outmoded and clearly biased sociological/anthropological reasoning to describe today's Africa is also insulting in itself.

i am sure nowhere is perfect but if we want to compare these two countries from different prospectives like racism, job, income/spending, quality of life, standard of living etc.
can you please give me a rough idea by sharing your experiences.. .
